Abstract
Ferroresonant oscillations in a capacitive voltage transformer 1 are suppressed by the circuit arrangement shown, in which the occurrence of such oscillations triggers a bi-directional semi-conductor switch 4 to connect a damping burden 3 across the intermediate voltage transformer 2, the triggering being effected by a relaxation oscillator which supplies a train of firing pulses to ensure that the switch 4 conducts for the duration of the oscillations. The oscillator comprises capacitors 5, 7, resistors 6, 9 and a voltage-dependent (Shockley) diode 8, the capacitor 5 being connected to a control voltage source 10 for charging when unwanted oscillations occur.
