Abstract

Chromium is electro-deposited on a metallic substrate from a potassium and strontium-free aqueous acidic solution containing 200-380 gm/1 chromium trioxide sulphate ions 0À6-5À1 gm/1 fluosilicate ions and at least one of the following: 2-24 gm/1 sodium ions, 2-22 gm/1 magnesium ions or 2-20 gm/1 ammonium ions the sulphate ions being present in an amount such that the weight ratio CrO 3 /SO 4 is between 150:1 and 230:1. The bath may also contain 0.001-0.015 gm/1 selenate ions when depositing micro-cracked chromium.
