Abstract
A process for the isolation of a glycopeptide from the gastric mucosa or duodenum of swine comprises (a) hydrolysing the animal organ in water at a temperature from 50 C. to 100 C. for from 10-45 minutes at a pH from 1 to 10 (b) removing acidic products of the hydrolysis and (c) diluting the product of step (b) with a non-solvent for the glycopeptide to precipitate the latter. The product of step (b) may be subjected to enzymatic proteolysis e.g. with papain or trypsin before step (c). The product may be purified by dialysis or treatment with one or more ion exchange resins.
