Abstract
1,274,016. Nucleic acids. KURITA WATER INDUSTRIES Ltd. 22 May, 1969 [30 May, 1968], No, 26141/69. Heading C3H. In a method of obtaining nucleic acids from activated sludge, the acids are extracted by treating the sludge with an aqueous solution of a chelating agent and separated from the extract by precipitation. The chelating agent may be an aminopolycarboxylic acid or an aminopolyphosphonic acid; EDTA, nitrilotriacetic acid and amino trimethylphosphonic acid are preferred. The precipitant may be aqueous methanol or acetone; the sludge may be given a preliminary extraction with these solvents to remove protein. Alternatively the acids may be precipitated by HCl.
