Abstract
A pulverulent product to be classified according to its grain size is introduced in suspension in carrier air into a curved conduit 2 via a tube 4 which has a cross-section smaller than that of the inlet end of the conduit and which is connected to the latter near its inner wall 5. Separating air is introduced into the conduit via a tube 6. The outlet end of the conduit is divided by a longitudinal partition 21 into inner and outer ducts or channels communicating with tubes 8 and 10 for the discharge of small and large particles respectively. The tubes 8, 10 communicate with cyclones 12, 13 in which the air is separated from the particles and extracted via a common pipe 16 by a suction fan 18. Throttling members 7 and 20 regulate the flow rate of the separating air and of the air in the tubes 8, 10 respectively. The length of penetration and the radial position of the particle are adjustable, the cross-sections of the tubes 8, 10 being modified when those of the ducts formed by the partition are modified. The product may be introduced together with the carrier air into the tube 4 or the product may be introduced at C and the carrier air at A. One or each of the tubes 8, 10, instead of being connected to a cyclone as shown, may be connected to another separator assembly for further separation or classification of the particles. The tubes 4, 6 and the duct 2 may not be rectangular in cross-section.
