Abstract

The method of converting molten metal into substantially finished metal forms, comprising the steps of (a) preparing the molten metal to a preselected analysis margin appropriate for the desired shape of substantially finished metal, (b) controllably discharging the metal melt prepared in a stream within a predetermined atomization chamber, (c) directing one or more high velocity streams of cooling medium onto the molten metal discharged into the atomization chamber to cool the molten metal and dispersing it in the form of solid particles of powder, (d) the high velocity currents of cooling medium being related to the discharged stream of molten metal in the direction, number, volume and velocity in such a way as to cause the disintegration of said metal in the form of dust particles finely divided in a substantially irregular manner, (e) reducing the water content of the cooled powder, and (f) compressing the powdered metal particles to form a continuous coherent piece of metal.
