Abstract
A releasable fastening device for holding two members together comprises an arm 11 pivotally mounted on one member and pivotable between a free position and a holding position, a catch 12 mounted on the arm so as to be movable along the arm, spring biasing means 14 biasing the catch towards the pivot point 8 of the arm, and abutment means 19 on the other member arranged so that when the two members are together and the arm pivoted to the holding position, the abutment means is engaged by the said catch in such a manner that the force of the biasing means is applied to the abutment means in a direction tending to maintain the two members together. In the embodiment described the arm comprises a spindle 5 with a threaded end 6 engaged in a threaded bore of a pivot block 7, the block 7 being pivotally mounted on the pin 8. The spindle carries a guide pin 13 to prevent rotation of the catch. A compression spring 14 is contained within the hollow catch to provide the biasing means. When the case is closed the arm 11 is brought down until the bevelled end 20 of the catch engages the abutment 19 which forces the catch along the arm the spindle entering a slot 18 in the abutment 19. In the final position the spindle is approximately at right angles to the lid with the biasing spring 14 urging the catch into clamping engagement with the abutment 19. The face of the spring is adjusted by screwing the spindle 5 into or out of the block 7. Two such fastenings devices may be provided in a case with the two spindles connected 'by a common handle to provide simultaneous pivoting. Also, the catch surface 20 may be conical.
