Abstract
A melting furnace comprising a body having a pair of well chambers with a channel extending laterally between said wells to hydraulically connect them, a lower layer of molten salt of greater specific gravity than the metal to be melted, electrodes in said salt melt, means for passing current from said electrodes through said molten salt to provide melt flow, one of said wells containing an upper layer of molten metal, a discharge mouth having its inlet end connected to said well in a point above the normal level of the molten metal thereof, the other of said wells containing molten salt in its upper part, a movable displacement member within the molten salt in the upper part of said other well, and means for moving said member of displacement within said other well to raise the level of the liquid in both connected hydraulic wells and allow the discharge of said upper layer.
