DESCRIPTION

Rigid pack of smoking articles

Background of the invention

The present invention relates to a rigid package with articulated lid containing a group of smoking articles of reduced size.

The present invention advantageously applies to a pack of cigarettes, to which the following description will explicitly refer to without limiting the scope of the invention.

Prior art

Rigid cigarette packages with articulated lids are the most common cigarette packages found in the market because they are easy to manufacture, are easy and practical to use and provide good mechanical protection for the cigarettes they contain inside. A pack of cigarettes with an articulated rigid lid comprises a cup-shaped container and has an open top end, and a lid, which also has a cup-shaped shape, articulated in the container along a rotating joint, with respect to to the container, between an open position and a closed position of the open end. The cup-shaped container is suitable for housing an inner wrap that contains a group of smoking articles, in particular cigarettes.

Normally, the outer container has a dimension that is substantially the same as that of the inner wrap to accommodate the inner wrap without appreciable space. However, in some embodiments, the outer package is remarkably larger than the inner wrap, for example, if the inner wrap has a reduced longitudinal dimension with respect to the longitudinal dimension of the container, because the cigarettes contained therein have a reduced longitudinal dimension.

US4241827A1 discloses a rigid packet of cigarettes with an articulated lid provided with support means, which is integral with the outer container, which provides a lower support to the internal envelope of reduced longitudinal dimension and comprises two pairs of fins that rest on the bottom wall, are articulated in the internal panels of the side walls and fold with respect to the internal panels into the container. The fins are obtained by suitable cuts of the blank with which the rigid package is obtained.

The support system described in US4241827A1 has the disadvantage of not offering adequate support for the internal envelope, which is supported underneath only at the upper edges of the four fins that have a very small extension.

In relation to this, it should be remembered that the inner wrap normally has no glue and contains a group of cigarettes that do not connect with each other; consequently, when the lower support of the inner wrap is not suitable, the cigarettes arranged in the center can even deform the inner wrap sheet downward in an undesired manner. Also, when the inner wrap is pressed down (for example, when the user removes a cigarette from the inner wrap), the fins can bend due to the buckling load, causing an unwanted dent in the inner wrap.

In addition, it is added that in order to make the support fins articulate in the internal panels of the side walls and fold with respect to the internal panels into the container, it is necessary to introduce significant construction complications in the machine of packaging, in particular in a wrap wheel suitable for handling the blank with which the rigid package is obtained. In fact, it is necessary to introduce additional handling elements that are suitable for folding and positioning the fins correctly, whose introduction is problematic in view of the little free space existing in the wrapping wheel itself and for whose handling elements it would be necessary to design a new wheel of packaging of the blank, with the consequent increase in the production costs of the packaging machine.

WO2015 / 124643 A1 describes a container for consumables comprising a box portion with a front wall, a rear wall and two side walls extending between the front wall and the rear wall; an internal frame positioned within the box portion, the internal frame comprising a reception portion to at least partially contain a group of consumables, the reception portion comprising a front wall of the internal frame and two side walls that depends , through respective folding lines, of the front wall of the inner frame; and a group of consumer items positioned within the receiving portion of the internal frame and the box portion; wherein the inner frame further comprises two retention panels that project on opposite sides from the receiving portion to cooperate with the front wall of the box portion or the rear wall of the box portion so that the receiving portion that holds the group of items occupies a stable position in relation to the front wall of the box portion, wherein the inner frame further comprises an upper portion to receive the consumer items that it comprises an upper front wall portion, the retention panels that extend on both sides from the upper front wall portion; each retaining panel comprising: a wall segment that extends from the upper front wall portion beyond the respective side wall of the receiving portion and is adapted to support against the front wall of the box portion by a length default; and a corner portion that depends, through a folding line, on the respective wall segment, and is adapted to cooperate with a respective side wall of the box portion.

WO 2007/049 138 A1 describes an articulated lid package for smoking articles according to the preamble of claim 1.

Description of the invention

An object of the present invention is to provide a rigid package of smoking articles that does not have the drawbacks described above and, in particular, is simple and inexpensive to manufacture.

In accordance with the present invention, a rigid package of smoking articles is provided in accordance with what is claimed in the appended claims.

Preferred embodiments of the invention

In this description, similar elements that are common to the various illustrated embodiments have been indicated by the same numbering.

In Figures 1 to 4, with the number 1 in general, it has been indicated that a rigid packet of cigarettes extends along a longitudinal axis A of greater extent. The package 1 comprises a parallelepiped shaped container 2 and an inner envelope 3, illustrated in Figure 3, which contains a group of cigarettes 100, and is housed inside the container 2. The inner envelope 3 is parallelepiped shaped and consists of a sheet of metallic wrap wrapped around the group of cigarettes. The envelope 3 has a longitudinal dimension that is smaller than the longitudinal dimension of the container 2 and forms a cavity within the container 2.

The container 2 has an open upper end 4 and is provided with a lid 5, which is cup-shaped and articulates in the container 2 along a joint 6 to rotate, with respect to the container 2, between an open position, illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, and a closed position, illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, of the open upper end 4.

The lid 5, when in the closed position thereof shown in Figures 1 and 2, gives the package 1 a rectangular parallelepiped shape having an upper wall 7 and a lower wall 8 that are parallel and opposite to each other, a front wall 9 and a rear wall 10 that are parallel and opposite each other, and two side walls 11 that are parallel and opposite each other. Between the side walls 11 and the front wall 9 and the rear wall 10, four longitudinal edges 12 are defined, while between the upper wall 7 and the lower wall 8 and the front wall 9, the rear wall 10 and the side wall 11 define eight transverse edges; in particular, between the upper wall 7 and the lower wall 8 and the front wall 9 and the rear wall 10, four major transverse edges 13 are defined, while between the upper wall 7 and the lower wall 8 and the side walls 11 are they define four lower transverse edges 14.

According to what is illustrated in Figures 3 to 13, the package 1 further comprises an internal frame 15, which is disposed within the container 2 to partially protrude outward from the open upper end 4 and engage a corresponding internal surface of the lid 5 when the cover 5 is arranged in the closed position mentioned above.

The inner frame 15 has a first side wall 16, which rests on a side wall 11 of the package 1, a front wall 17, which rests on the front wall 9 of the package 1, and a second side wall 18 that opposes the side wall 16 and rests on the side wall 11 of the package 1.

The internal frame 15 also has an upper edge 19 oriented towards the open upper end 4 and a lower edge 20, which opposes the upper edge 19 and is oriented towards the lower wall 8 of the container 2.

The internal frame 15 is folded in a "U" shape inside the container 2 and, moreover, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, is held in position within the container 2 as long as the bottom edge 20 of the frame Internal 15 rests on the bottom wall 8 of the container 2.

In addition or alternatively, according to an embodiment not illustrated, the internal frame 15 is held in position within the container 2 to the extent that it is fixed thereto with an adhesive material, in particular the front wall 17 of the internal frame 15 is glued to an inner surface of the front wall 9 of the container 2 and the first side wall 16 and the second side wall 18 of the inner frame 15 are glued to the inner surfaces of the corresponding side walls 11 of the container 2.

The package further comprises support means for providing a lower support to the inner envelope 3, which comprises a first fin 21 and a second fin 22 folded inside the container 2.

The first fin 21 and the second fin 22 are limited by the lower edge 20 of the inner frame 15 and are separated from the latter, respectively, by a first incision 23 and a second incision 24.

The first fin 21 has a respective first end that is connected to the inner frame 15 by a first hinge 21a and also has a second end that is connected to the inner frame 15 by a second joint 21b.

In other words, the first fin 21 is an area of the inner frame 15 bounded above by the first incision 23, below by a portion of the lower edge 20 between the first joint 21a and the second joint 21b and laterally by the first joint 21a and by the second joint 21b. The upper edge of the first fin 21 corresponds to the first incision 23.

The first fin 21 further comprises a third joint 21c, which is disposed between the first joint 21a and the second joint 21b and defines in the first fin 21 a first portion 21d, disposed between the first joint 21a and the third joint 21c, and a second portion 21e, disposed between the third joint 21c and the second joint 21b.

Similarly, the fin 22 has a respective first end that is connected to the inner frame 15 by a first joint 22a and also has a second end that is connected to the inner frame 15 by a second joint 22b.

In other words, the second fin 22 is an area of the inner frame 15 bounded above by the second incision 24, below by a portion of the lower edge 20 between the first joint 22a and the second joint 22b and laterally by the first joint 22a and by the second joint 22b. The upper edge of the second fin 22 corresponds to the second incision 24.

Similarly, the second fin 22 further comprises a third joint 22c, which is disposed between the first joint 22a and the second joint 22b and identifies in the second fin 22 a first portion 22d, disposed between the first joint 22a and the third joint 22c, and a second portion 22e disposed between the third joint 22c and the second joint 22b.

Preferably, the first 21a, the second 21b and the third joint 21c of the first fin 21 and also the first 22a, the second 22b and the third joint 22c of the second fin 22 respectively extend from the first incision 23 to the bottom edge 20 and from the second incision 24 to the bottom edge 20.

It should be noted that the front wall 17 of the inner frame 15 is delimited by two longitudinal edges 25, which are in particular straight edges parallel to the longitudinal axis A, which are defined between the front wall 17 and the first side wall 16 of the inner frame 15 and between the front wall 17 and the second side wall 18. The longitudinal edges 25 of the inner frame 15 are parallel to the longitudinal edges 12 of the package and rest on the latter when the inner frame 15 is inside the container 2.

The first joint 21a, the second joint 21b and the third joint 21c of the first fin 21 and the first joint 22a, the second joint 22b and the third joint 22c of the second fin 22 are parallel to the two longitudinal edges 25 of the inner frame fifteen.

If, in addition, a longitudinal symmetry line S is considered in the front wall of the internal frame 17, shown in Figures 7, 10 and 11, preferably the second joint 21b of the first fin 21 and the second joint 22b of the second the fin 22 is arranged in the front wall 17 symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal line of symmetry S.

Preferably, in fact, the first incision 23 and the second incision 24 have the same dimension and the fins 21 and 22 are symmetrical and speculative with respect to the line of symmetry S (and also to the axis of longitudinal symmetry A of package 1) for increase the stability of the lower support of the inner shell 3.

It should be noted that, when the first fin 21 and the second fin 22 fold in such a way that the third joint 21c of the first fin 21 and the third joint 22c of the second fin 22 are pushed into the container 2, the edge upper of the first fin 21, which corresponds to the first incision 23 and the upper edge of the second fin 22, which corresponds to the second incision 24, is in a plane parallel to the lower wall 8 of the package 1 to ensure a support stable to the inner envelope 3.

In this way, the lower support that the first fin 21 and the second fin 22 provide to the inner envelope 3 is in a plane parallel to the bottom wall 8 of the package 1, as will be seen below.

Preferably, the first joint 21a of the first fin 21 is located in the first side wall 16 of the inner frame 15 and the second joint 21b of the first fin 21 is located in the front wall 17 of the inner frame 15. Furthermore, the second joint 22b of the second fin 22 is located on the front wall 17 of the inner frame 15 and the first joint 22a of the second fin 22 is located on the second side wall 18 of the inner frame 15.

The third joint 21c of the first fin 21 and the third joint 22c of the second fin 22 are located between the first joints 21a and 22a and the respective second joints 21b and 22b of the corresponding fins 21 and 22 in a geometric position that is such that when the first fin 21 and the second fin 22 fold into the container 2, the fins take a "L" shape in which the first portion 21d of the first fin 21 is perpendicular to the second portion 21e of the first fin 21 and the first portion 22d of the second fin 22 is perpendicular to the second portion 22e of the second fin 22.

In detail, the first portion 21d of the first fin 21 is disposed at 90 ° with respect to the first side wall 16, while the second part 21e is disposed at 90 ° with respect to the front wall 17. Similarly, the First portion 22d of the second fin 22 is disposed at 90 ° with respect to the second side wall 18, the second portion 22e of the second fin 22 is disposed at 90 ° with respect to the front wall 17.

The second portion 21e of the first fin 21 and the second portion 22e of the second fin 22 are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the front wall 17.

The upper edge of the first fin 21 and the second fin 22, defined respectively by the first incision 23 and by the second incision 24, each folded in an "L" shape, thus create the lower support that allows the inner envelope 3 lean steadily on opposite sides of them. Furthermore, by appropriately sizing the first incision 23 and the second incision 24, the fins 21 and 22 can be such that they support transversely the inner envelope 3 almost completely, due to the upper edge of the fin 21e and the fin 22e.

The packet of cigarettes 1 described above is obtained by a set of two blank pieces that are independent and separated from each other. The container 2 is manufactured by folding a traditional blank for rigid type packages that is already known and will not be described below.

A blank 26 for manufacturing the inner frame 15 in the rigid package 1 described above is shown, moreover, in Figure 10.

The blank 26 is limited by the upper edge 19 and the lower edge 20 and has a first and a second line of longitudinal weakening, which are indicated respectively by 27 and 28, which are parallel to each other and constitute the two longitudinal edges 25 of the internal frame 15.

The first longitudinal weakening line 27 and the second longitudinal weakening line 28 define a first panel 29 constituting the first side wall 16, a second panel 30 constituting the front wall 17 and a third panel 31 constituting the second side wall 18 of the internal frame 15.

The blank 26 has the first incision 23 and the second incision 24, the first fin 21 and the second fin 22 are limited by the lower edge 20 of the inner frame 15 and are separated from the first incision 23 and the second incision 24.

The first fin 21 is connected to the blank 26 by a third line of weakening 32 which defines the first joint 21a of the first fin 21 and is further connected to the blank 26 by a fourth respective weakening line 33 which defines the second joint 21b of the first fin 21.

The second fin 22 is connected to the blank 26 by a fifth line of weakening 34 that defines the first joint 22a of the second fin 22 and is further connected to the blank 26 by a respective sixth weakening line 35 which defines the second joint 22b of the second fin 22.

The first fin 21 and the second fin 22 further comprise a seventh line of weakening 36 and an eighth line of weakening 37 that respectively define the third joint 21c of the first fin 21 and the third joint 22c of the second fin 22.

The third line of weakening 32, the fourth line of weakening 33 and the seventh line of weakening 36 extend from the first incision 23 to the lower edge 20 of the inner frame 15. The fifth line of weakening 34, the sixth line of weakening 35 and the eighth line of weakening 37 extends from the second incision 24 to the lower edge 20 of the inner frame 15.

In addition, the third line of weakening 32, the fourth line of weakening 33, the fifth line of weakening 34, the sixth line of weakening 35, the seventh line of weakening 36 and the eighth line of weakening 37 are parallel to each other and are parallel to the first and second longitudinal weakening lines 27 and 28.

If the line of symmetry S of the front wall 17 is considered, this line of symmetry S is in the second panel 30 and constitutes the line of symmetry of the blank 26.

Preferably, the fourth line of weakening 33 and the sixth line of weakening 35 are symmetrical with the line of symmetry S. Even more preferably, the first incision 23 and the second incision 24 have the same dimension, the third weakening line 32 and the fifth line of weakening 34 is symmetrical with the line of symmetry S, the seventh line of weakening 36 and the eighth line of weakening 37 are symmetrical with the line of symmetry S.

The third line of weakening 32 is arranged in the first panel 29, while the fourth line of weakening 33 is arranged in the second panel 30 so that the first incision 23 extends through a portion of the first panel 29 and a portion of the second panel 30, in particular from the third line of weakening 32 to the fourth line of weakening 33.

Similarly, the fifth line of weakening 34 is arranged in the third panel 31, while the sixth line of weakening 35 is arranged in the second panel 30, so that the second incision 24 extends through a portion of the third panel 31 and by a portion of the second panel 30, in particular from the fifth line of weakening 34 to the sixth line of weakening 35.

It should also be noted that the first incision 23 and the second incision 24 are perpendicular to the longitudinal weakening lines 27, 28 and 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37 present in the blank 26.

Advantageously, it is thus possible to obtain a pair of fins 21 and 22 in the inner frame that make a stable support for the inner envelope 3, which contains smoking articles that are shorter than the longitudinal dimension of the package 1, when the fins 21 and 22 fold into package 1.

Due to the first portion 21d and the second portion 21e of the first fin 21 and the first portion 22d and the second portion 22e of the second fin 22, in which the first portion and the second portion are arranged in the form of "L" "within package 1, a support plane is created for each fin 21 and 22, which is parallel to the bottom wall 8 of the package.

Considering the fin 21, the support plane has a component that is parallel to the side wall 16 of the inner frame 15 (the upper edge of the second portion 21e defined by the first incision 23) and a component that is parallel to the front wall 17 of the inner frame 15 (the upper edge of the first portion 21d defined by the first incision 23). The same considerations also apply to fin 22.

A correct alignment of the first incision 23 and the second incision 24 makes it possible to guarantee the coplanarity of the two support planes that are defined respectively by the first portion 21d and the second portion 21e of the first fin 21 and by the first portion 22d and the second portion 22e of the second fin 22.

Due to the possibility of making a support in the internal frame 15, the packaging machine is significantly simplified, since the internal frame can be manipulated in a wrap line that is different from the main wrap line that is suitable for folding the part in which the container 2 and the articulated lid 5 are manufactured thereon.

The internal frame can, for example, be properly manipulated to make the fins 21 and 22 and fold the fins 21 and 22 into the interior of the package 1 before being associated with the inner envelope 3. For example, additional handling elements can be added in one area of the packing machine in which there are no space problems, to associate the internal frame 15 which is already provided with the fins 21 and 22 with the internal envelope 3.

The supply of the assembly consisting of an internal frame 15 and an internal envelope 3 to the main envelope line does not therefore require variations in the latter, which can be kept as simple as possible.
