Abstract
Un procedimiento implementado por ordenador para crear un plan para reposicionar los dientes de un paciente partiendo de un conjunto de posiciones iniciales de los dientes hasta un conjunto de posiciones finales de los dientes, comprendiendo 5 el procedimiento: recibir unos conjuntos de datos digitales iniciales que representan los dientes en las posiciones iniciales, generar unos conjuntos de datos digitales intermedios y finales que representan los dientes en posiciones intermedias y finales, en el que los conjuntos de datos digitales intermedios se basan en el conjunto de datos digitales iniciales y el conjunto de datos digitales finales, y generar unas trayectorias de tratamiento a lo largo de las que se moveran los dientes desde las posiciones iniciales hasta las posiciones finales pasando por las posiciones intermedias, que incluye generar posiciones intermedias para al menos un diente entre las cuales el diente experimenta movimientos de traslacion de tamanos iguales.

longitud de la trayectoria elegida corresponde al tiempo total y las etapas necesarias para un plan de tratamiento.
La trayectoria final resultante consiste en una serie de vectores, cada uno de los cuales representa un grupo de valores de los parámetros de interpolación de los componentes de traslación y de rotación de las transformaciones de los dientes que se están moviendo. Tomados en conjunto, constituyen una planificación del movimiento de los dientes que evita las interferencias entre dientes.
Un algoritmo de detección de colisiones o interferencias empleado en una realización se basa en el algoritmo descrito en el artículo SIGGRAPH, Stefan Gottschalk et al. (1996): "OBBTree: A Hierarchical Structure for Rapid Interference Detection."
El algoritmo se centra alrededor de una subdivisión recursiva del espacio ocupado por un objeto, que es organizado a modo de árbol binario. Se utilizan triángulos para representar los dientes en el DDS. Cada nodo del árbol se denomina caja delimitadora orientada (oriented bounding box -OBB) y contiene un subconjunto de triángulos que aparecen en el padre del nodo. Los hijos de un nodo padre contienen entre ellos todos los datos de triángulos almacenados en el nodo padre.
La caja delimitadora de un nodo se orienta de manera que se ajusta fuertemente alrededor de todos los triángulos de ese nodo. Los nodos hoja del árbol contienen idealmente un solo triángulo, pero posiblemente pueden contener más de un triángulo. La detección de colisiones entre dos objetos, consiste en determinar si los árboles OBB de los objetos se cruzan. La figura 9A expone un diagrama de flujo que representa una versión simplificada de una comprobación recursiva de colisiones para comprobar si un nodo "N1" de un primer objeto se cruza con el nodo "N2" de un segundo objeto. Si los OBBs de los nodos raíz de los árboles se solapan, se comprueba el solapamiento de los hijos de la raíz. El algoritmo procede de manera recursiva hasta que se llega a los nodos hoja. En este punto, se utiliza una rutina de intersección de triángulos robusta para determinar si los triángulos en las hojas están implicados en una colisión.
La técnica de detección de colisiones descrita en este documento ofrece varias mejoras al algoritmo de detección de colisiones descrito en el artículo SIGGRAPH. Por ejemplo, los árboles OBB se pueden construir de manera perezosa para ahorrar memoria y tiempo. Este enfoque proviene de la observación de que algunas partes del modelo nunca estarán involucradas en una colisión, y por lo tanto no se necesita calcular el árbol OBB para dichas partes del modelo. Los árboles OBB son expandidos dividiendo los nodos internos del árbol según sea necesario durante el algoritmo de determinación de colisiones recursivo, según se representa en la figura 9B.
Por otra parte, los triángulos del modelo que no son necesarios para los datos de colisión también pueden ser excluidos expresamente de ser considerados en la construcción de un árbol OBB. Según se muestra en la figura 9C, se proporciona información adicional al algoritmo de colisión para especificar objetos en movimiento. El movimiento se puede ver en dos niveles. Los objetos pueden ser conceptualizados como "en movimiento" en un sentido global, o pueden ser conceptualizados como "en movimiento" con respecto a otros objetos. La información adicional mejora el tiempo empleado para la detección de colisiones evitando volver a calcular la información de colisiones entre objetos que están en reposo entre sí ya que el estado de la colisión entre dichos objetos no cambia.
La figura 18 ilustra un esquema de detección de colisiones alternativo, que calcula un "amortiguador de colisiones" orientado a lo largo de un eje z 1802 a lo largo del cual se encuentran dos dientes 1804, 1806. El amortiguador de colisiones se calcula para cada etapa de tratamiento o en cada posición a lo largo de una trayectoria de tratamiento para la que se requiere la detección de colisiones. Para crear el amortiguador, se define un plano x, y 1808 entre los dientes 1804, 1806. El plano debe ser "neutral" con respecto a los dos dientes. Idealmente, el plano neutral se coloca de modo que no cruza diente alguno. Si la intersección con uno o ambos dientes es inevitable, el plano neutral se orienta de tal manera que los dientes se encuentran, tanto como sea posible, en los lados opuestos del plano. En otras palabras, el plano neutral minimiza la cantidad de área de superficie de cada diente que se encuentra en el mismo lado del plano que el otro diente.
En el plano 1808 es una cuadrícula de puntos discretos, cuya resolución depende de la resolución necesaria para la rutina de detección de colisiones. Un amortiguador de colisiones de alta resolución típico incluye una cuadrícula de 400 x 400; un amortiguador de baja resolución típico incluye una cuadrícula de 20 x 20. El eje z 1802 está definido por una línea perpendicular al plano 1808.
Las posiciones relativas de los dientes 1804, 1806 se determinan mediante el cálculo, para cada uno de los puntos de la cuadrícula, la distancia lineal paralela al eje z 1802 entre el plano 1808 y la superficie más cercana de cada diente 1804, 1806. Por ejemplo, en cualquier punto de la cuadrícula determinado (M, N), el plano 1808 y la superficie más cercana del diente trasero 1804 están separados por una distancia representada por el valor Z1(M,N), mientras que el plano 1808 y la superficie más cercana del diente delantero 1806 están separados por una distancia representada por el valor Z2(M, N). Si el amortiguador de colisiones se define de tal manera que el plano 1808 se encuentra en z = 0 y los valores positivos de z se encuentran hacia el diente trasero 1804, entonces los dientes 1804,1806 colisionan cuando Z1(M, N) ≤ Z2(M, N) en cualquier punto de la cuadrícula (M, N) en el plano 1808.

El subsistema de almacenamiento de archivos 314 proporciona un almacenamiento persistente (no volátil) para archivos de programa y de datos, y generalmente incluye al menos una unidad de disco duro y al menos una unidad de disco flexible (con medios extraíbles asociados). También puede haber otros dispositivos tales como una unidad de CD-ROM y unidades ópticas (todos con sus medios extraíbles asociados). Además, el sistema puede incluir unidades del tipo con cartuchos de medios extraíbles. Los cartuchos de medios extraíbles pueden, por ejemplo, ser cartuchos de disco duro, tales como los comercializados por Syquest y otros, y cartuchos de disco flexible, tales como los comercializados por Iomega. Una o más de las unidades pueden estar situadas en una ubicación remota, tal como en un servidor en una red de área local o en un sitio en Internet de la World Wide Web.
En este contexto, el término "subsistema de bus" se usa genéricamente para incluir cualquier mecanismo para permitir que los diversos componentes y subsistemas se comuniquen entre sí según se desee. Con la excepción de los dispositivos de entrada y de visualización, los otros componentes no necesitan estar en la misma ubicación física. Así, por ejemplo, partes del sistema de almacenamiento de archivos podrían estar conectadas a través de varios medios de red de área local o de área amplia, incluyendo líneas telefónicas. De modo similar, los dispositivos de entrada y de visualización no necesitan estar en la misma ubicación que el procesador, aunque se prevé generalmente el uso de equipos personales y estaciones de trabajo.
El subsistema de bus 304 se muestra esquemáticamente como un único bus, pero un sistema típico tiene un número de buses tales como un bus local y uno o más buses de expansión (por ejemplo, ADB, SCSI, ISA, EISA, MCA, NuBus, o PCI), así como puertos serie y paralelo. Las conexiones de red generalmente se establecen a través de un dispositivo tal como un adaptador de red en uno de estos buses de expansión o un módem en un puerto serie. El equipo informático cliente puede ser un sistema de escritorio o un sistema portátil.
El escáner 320 es el responsable del escaneo de moldes de los dientes del paciente obtenidos o bien del paciente o bien de un ortodoncista y de proporcionar la información de conjuntos de datos digitales escaneados al sistema de procesamiento de datos 300 para su posterior procesamiento. En un entorno distribuido, el escáner 320 puede estar situado en un lugar remoto y comunicar la información de conjuntos de datos digitales escaneados al sistema de procesamiento de datos 300 a través de la interfaz de red 324.
La máquina de fabricación 322 fabrica aparatos dentales en base a información de conjuntos de datos intermedios y finales recibida del sistema de procesamiento de datos 300. En un entorno distribuido, la máquina de fabricación 322 puede estar situada en un lugar remoto y recibir la información de conjuntos de datos del sistema de procesamiento de datos 300 a través de interfaz de red 324.
La invención se ha descrito en términos de formas de realización particulares. Otras formas de realización están dentro del alcance de las siguientes reivindicaciones. Por ejemplo, las técnicas de escaneo de tres dimensiones descritas anteriormente se pueden usar para analizar las características del material, tales como la contracción y expansión, de los materiales que forman las piezas de moldeado dental y los alineadores. Además, los modelos dentales en 3D y la interfaz gráfica descritos anteriormente se pueden utilizar para asistir a los médicos tratantes de pacientes con correctores (braces) convencionales u otros aparatos ortodóncicos convencionales, en cuyo caso se modificarían consecuentemente las restricciones aplicadas al movimiento de los dientes. Por otra parte, los modelos dentales pueden ser publicados en un sitio web de protocolo de transferencia de hipertexto (http) para acceso limitado por parte de pacientes y médicos tratantes correspondientes.
