Las tablas 1A y 1B resumen varias estructuras de películas denominadas muestras A-E. Generalmente, cada muestra incluye una capa “de impresión” exterior, una capa central interior (“núcleo”) y una capa adhesiva. En todas
10 las muestras, la capa central interna constituye la mayor proporción de peso y grosor de las muestras. Las muestras incluían varias cantidades de ICP en la capa central y opcionalmente en la capa de impresión y en la capa adhesiva. La figura 4 muestra los valores del brillo a 60º para varias muestras. Todas las muestras A, B, C y E presentaron valores de brillo mayores en comparación con la muestra de control. Generalmente se desean valores de brillo mayores para revestimientos superiores y aplicaciones de tintas metálicas.
La figura 5 muestra la rigidez o resistencia a la flexión en la dirección de la máquina (MD) y en la dirección transversal (CD) para las muestras y el control. Todas las muestras presentaron mayor rigidez tanto en la dirección de la máquina como en la dirección transversal en comparación con la muestra de control. Típicamente, se prefiere una rigidez mayor para operaciones de distribución.
La figura 6 muestra varios valores del módulo elástico tanto en la dirección de la máquina (MD) como en la dirección transversal (CD) para las muestras en comparación con la muestra de control. Como se comprenderá, el módulo elástico es una medida de la resistencia a la deformación. Todas las muestras, A, B, C y E presentaron un módulo mayor en la dirección de la máquina, en comparación con la muestra de control. Y todas las muestras presentaron valores del módulo mayores o esencialmente el mismo en la dirección transversal en comparación con la muestra de control. Generalmente se prefieren valores del módulo elástico mayores para impresión. Y generalmente los valores de módulo elástico bajos indican una buena adaptabilidad a un sustrato no plano tal como una botella.
La figura 7 muestra la densidad de las muestras en comparación con el control. Todas las muestras presentaron mayores densidades que la muestra.
Los resultados y los datos indicados previamente demostraron sorprendentemente que la incorporación de ICP a un sustrato, por ejemplo en una o ambas capa de impresión y/o capa central, no afecta significativamente a la claridad, mejora el troquelado y parece que suprime la cantidad mínima de energía (es decir, temperatura y tensión) necesaria para orientar a los polímeros más cristalinos. Los ejemplos de polímeros más cristalinos incluyen homopolímero de polipropileno (HPP) y copolímero aleatorio de polipropileno (RCP). Se cree que proporcionar una superficie de PE orientada sin defectos significativos es un avance importante en la técnica.
Se realizaron otra serie de ensayos para evaluar las muestras de película formadas a partir de mezclas de un solo componente y varios componentes de copolímero aleatorio de polipropileno (RCP) y copolímero de impacto de polipropileno (ICP). Específicamente las muestras se prepararon con 100% de RCP, una mezcla de 75% de RCP y 25% de ICP, 50% de RCP y 50% de ICP, 25% de RCP y 75% de ICP y 100% de ICP. Las distintas muestras se compararon con controles de materiales disponibles comercialmente de PE-85 disponibles en Charter Films of Superior, Wisconsin, y de TC-BOPP disponibles en ExxonMobil Chemical. La tabla 4 resume y describe cada una de las distintas muestras.

La figura 8 muestra el comportamiento frente al troquelado de mezclas de ICP orientadas en la dirección de la máquina (MD) con RCP. Generalmente es adecuado reducir la resistencia al troquelado. Por lo tanto, como se demuestra en los datos de la figura 8, la resistencia al troquelado de los materiales de RCP se puede reducir incorporando cantidades de ICP en la mezcla de RCP e ICP.
La figura 9 muestra la adaptabilidad calculada de mezclas de ICP orientadas en la dirección de la máquina con RCP. Generalmente se prefiere reducir la resistencia a la adaptabilidad. Como es evidente en la figura 9, la resistencia a la adaptabilidad de los materiales de RCP se puede reducir incorporando cantidades de ICP en ellos.
La figura 10 muestra la turbidez medida de mezclas de ICP orientadas en la dirección de la máquina con RCP. Generalmente es adecuado proporcionar películas con un porcentaje de turbidez bajo. Como se muestra en la figura 10, se pueden usar proporciones relativamente grandes de ICP, tales como hasta aproximadamente 50%, en una mezcla de RCP e ICP sin aumentar significativamente la turbidez de la mezcla resultante.

La figura 12 muestra el efecto calculado del aumento de la orientación en la dirección de la máquina sobre la adaptabilidad. Generalmente es adecuado que la resistencia a la adaptabilidad sea relativamente baja. Como es evidente en la figura 12 se pueden obtener adaptabilidades a orientaciones menores de aproximadamente 5,00X.
10 La figura 13 muestra la resistencia al troquelado calculada de diferentes grados de ICP orientado en la dirección de la máquina mezclados con RCP. Los diferentes materiales de ICP eran todos resinas de ICP comercialmente disponibles con las siguientes denominaciones: (i) TOTAL 5759, (ii) LyondellBasell SG702, (iii) ChevronPhillips AGN120, (iv) Flint Hills AP 7310-HS, ( v) Flint Hills AP 7710-HS y (vi) LyondellBasell Profax 8523. Cada grado de ICP se mezcló con 25% de RCP.
15 La figura 14 muestra la adaptabilidad calculada para diferentes grados de ICP orientado en la dirección de la máquina mezclados con RCP. Se mezclaron con 25% de RCP los mismos grados de ICP disponibles comercialmente que se han descrito con respecto a la figura 13.
Comparando las figuras 13 y 14, es evidente que las mezclas de ICP y RCP para mejorar, es decir reducir, la resistencia al troquelado, y para mejorar, es decir reducir, la resistencia a la adaptabilidad, están generalmente en
