Abstract

Un método para recuperar ácido tereftálico (TPA) a partir de materiales que contienen poli(tereftalato de etileno) (PTE), mediante la precipitación por acidificación con un ácido más fuerte que el TPA de una disolución acuosa que comprende una o más sales metálicas del TPA solubles en agua, y posterior separación, lavado y secado del TPA precipitado, en el que dicha disolución que comprende una o más sales metálicas del TPA se obtiene mediante un proceso que comprende las siguientes etapas: a) mezclar, en ausencia de agua, una mezcla de reacción que comprende dicho material que contiene PTE, etilenglicol en una cantidad en peso incluida entre 10:1 y 1:10, y una o más sales solubles en agua de ácidos más débiles que el TPA, hasta que se obtiene un compuesto de reacción soluble en agua; obteniéndose dicho compuesto soluble constituido por especies químicas solubles mediante la interacción entre PTE y dichas sales metálicas de ácidos más débiles que el TPA en presencia de etilenglicol, y posibles partes de PTE sin reaccionar, o partes de material de naturaleza diferente a PTE, presentes en el material de partida; y b) añadir una fracción de agua al compuesto soluble obtenido en la etapa a), hasta que se lleve a cabo una reacción de salificación del TPA contenido en dichas especies químicas solubles, de tal forma que se obtiene una disolución acuosa que comprende una o más sales metálicas del TPA, etilenglicol y posibles partes del material de partida sin reaccionar.
