Abstract

The system has a generator (1) and a turbine (2), e.g. a Francis or pump turbine, with an adjustable blade drive stage (3) and a bypass valve (4). The valve is driven in conjunction with a controller (5) and depending on the blade position to prevent a pressure shock during fast blade closure. The controller determines the instantaneous turbine throughput (QT) from the revs rate, the drop height and the blade position and determines the desired valve throughput (QV) from a decay curve. The valve throughput value is used as the demand value for regulating the valve opening according to the valve characteristic.
