Abstract

Bacterial strain capable of metabolising textile dyes. The bacterium was obtained in an activated sludge pilot plant used in the treatment of a textile wastewater and selected on solid medium for subsequent isolation and identification. The biochemical identification reactions (API 20E and supplementary tests) indicate that the species selected is Pseudomonas putida. Its application in the elimination of dyes from textile wastewaters makes it possible to degrade molecules of this type which give rise to major environmental problems.
