Abstract

Process for producing patterned drawing effects on regenerated cellulose cellulose fabrics and their blends which are resistant to aqueous solutions, whether acidic or alkaline neutral; which comprises embossing the fabric with a printing paste containing water and whose solid reactive elements consist essentially of polyvinyl alcohol and other resin or soluble or dispersible resins which are hardened by heat until insolubilized in the paste of which the polyvinyl alcohol constitutes a proportion ranging from 4.5% by weight of the pulp to such an amount that together with the other ingredients the pulp is no longer used for printing while the other resin or resins constitute at least one half by weight of the polyvinyl alcohol and can increase to the point where, together with the other ingredients, the paste is no longer used for printing; after which the fabric is dried, the dry cloth is passed through a calender with a mechanical finish under pressure and is stabilized in the presence of a catalyst by subjecting it to heat for a sufficient time to harden or polymerize the resinous material until it is insoluble in water.
