EN UN MULTIPLEXOR CROSS-CONNECT (CCM2) ESTAN CONECTADOS A UN CAMPO DE CABEZA ESPACIAL (RKF) UNA VARIEDAD DE UNIDADES DE CONEXION, ENTRE OTRAS, AQUELLAS (AE1) PARA SEÑALES STM-1 EN LA JERARQUIA SINCRONO-DIGITAL (SDH). LAS CABEZAS DE CUADRO DE ESTE MODULO DE TRANSPORTE SINCRONO (STM-1) SON EN CONJUNTO PARCIALMENTE RECIBIDAS Y EVALUADAS EN UN SERVER-CABEZA DE CUADRO (SOHS) CON LA AYUDA DE UN ORDENADOR DE NUDO DE RED (NCU) Y PARCIALMENTE ENTRELAZADAS Y TRANSMITIDAS. ESTE PROCESO SE SIMPLIFICA PORQUE LAS SEÑALES STM-1 SE CONVIERTEN EN VARIAS SEÑALES D39 CONOCIDAS EN SI CON UNA TASA EN BITIOS DE 38,912 MBIT/S Y VICEVERSA, MIENTRAS QUE POR MEDIO DEL CAMPO DE CABEZA ESPACIAL (RKF) SOLAMENTE LOS BITIOS DE LAS CABEZAS DE CUADRO NECESARIOS PARA LA TRANSMISION SON INSERTADOS EN SOLO UNA DE LAS DIECISEIS COLUMNAS DEL CUADRO DE UNA SEÑAL D-39 PERTENECIENTE A LA SEÑAL STM-1. SOLAMENTE ESTAS COLUMNAS ESPECIALES DE CADA GRUPO DE DIECISEIS SEÑALES STM-1 SE COMBINAN EN UNA SEÑAL D39 PROPIA QUE EL SERVERCABEZADE CUADRO (SOHS) RECIBE O TRANSMITE.
