SE EXTRAE EL DIOXIDO DE SULFURO DE LOS GASES DE COMBUSTION UTILIZANDO UNA SOLUCION ACUOSA DE COMPONENTES DE MAGNESIO EN UN DEPURADOR CON AGUA (1), CON OXIDACION DE UNA PARTE DE LA DESCARGA ACUOSA DEL DEPURADOR. SE AÑADE SULFATO DE CALCIO (25) A LA PARTE DE DESCARGA ACUOSA EN EL OXIDANTE (17) PARA FORMAR UN EFLUENTE ACUOSO OXIDIZADO QUE CONTIENE SOLIDOS DE SULFATO DE CALCIO Y SULFATO DE MAGNESIO DISUELTO. EL EFLUENTE ACUOSO OXIDIZADO SE REGENERA POR ADICION DE CAL, EN UN DEPOSITO DE REGENERACION (31), QUE PRECIPITA EL SULFATO DE CALCIO COMO YESO, CON YESO (43) DEVUELTO AL OXIDANTE COMO SULFATO DE CALCIO AÑADIDO AL MISMO.
