Abstract
PURPOSE: To convert by-produced Glauber's salt to caustic soda and sulfuric acid and prevent the loss of alkaline components by recovering alkaline components from the Glauber's salt produced in the gas to be treated by the use of a Glauber's salt electrolytic device in an absorption process in a sulfurous acid-gypsum process.
CONSTITUTION: Calcium carbonate is added to the acid sodium sulfite produced with the absorption of sulfur dioxide to regenerate sodium sulfite, oxidize the calcium sulfite being the product of double decomposition reaction, and the gypsum is separated as a by-product. Further, alkaline components are recovered from the Glauber's salt produced in the gas to be treated in an absorption process, by using a Glauber's salt electrolyzing device F. The filtrate after solid-liquid separation produced from the process for oxidation to gypsum is uses as the Glauber's salt solution to be supplied into the Glauber's salt electrolytic device. For example, exhaust gas 21 is led into an absorption tower A, where it is scrubbed by an absorbing solution 27 mainly composed of sodium sulfite and is removed of sulfur dioxide. This gas is exhausted as pollution-free exhaust gas 22.
