Abstract

Una célula de cristal líquido cuyo medio ópticamente activo está constituído por una capa de material (1) de cristal líquido ferroeléctrico esmético situada entre dos placas de soporte (31,34) de las cuales la superficie enfrentadas hacia el interior comportan capas de electrodo transparentes (32, 35) que definen una pluralidad de píxels, estando cubierta cada una de las capas de electrodo con una capa de alineación (33,36) y siendo el citado material de cristal líquido eléctricamente conmutable entre dos estados es tables que son ópticamente distintos, caracterizada porque para asegurar la existencia de núcleos de inversión para cada píxel i) por lo menos una de las capas de alineación contiene regiones (101) que son mucho menores que el tamaño de un píxel, teniendo una diferente fuerza de alineación para las moléculas del cristal líquido que el resto (102) de la capa de alineación, o ii) por lo menos una de las capas de electrodo contiene regiones (201) que son mucho menores que el tamañode un píxel, en que el espesor de la capa de electrodo es aumentada, o iii) por lo menos una de las capas de electrodo contiene regiones que son muchos menores que el tamaño de un píxel teniendo una resistividad inferior a la del resto de la capa de electrodo.
