Abstract

Machines for juice extn. from plant prods. by decompression are improved by fitting ball valves for controlling the upper inlet and lower outlet of the machine pressure chamber. Each ball valve being actuated by a hydraulic double-acting piston and cylinder drive unit. Control of opening of the lower ball valve is pref. effected in a short time of less than five-tenths of a second. The upper portion of the decompression chamber has a row of outlets in which mesh filters and special filters are incorporated for exhaust of decompression gases. Compressed gas pref. enters directly into the chamber through a flexible hose. Closure of the inlet ball valve may be slightly delayed so that the chamber may be inert gas flushed. USE/ADVANTAGE - The machines may be used for juice extn. from grapes. The ball valves are more reliable than conventionally used valves, thus allowing higher chamber pressure levels and more rapid opening of the pressure-reducing outlet valve so that machine productivity is increased.
