Abstract

1. A closure device for a metal drum, cask, barrel or the like comprising a cylindrical envelope (1) which is formed with an orifice (32) communicating with a pressurized gas source and bears at one end means for sealing its contact with the periphery of the drum plug (3), and a closure device (12, 14) mounted inside the envelope, characterized in that the closure device (12, 14) is borne by a piston (10) sliding in sealing-tight relationship in the envelope (1) between a position for keeping a closure element (24) away from the plug (3) and enabling pressurized gas to enter the drum, and a position for applying the closure element (24) and cutting off the drum from the gas source, a pressure detector (34) being mounted in the envelope adjacent the orifice commutating with the gas source.
