Abstract

One automatic one-way fluid valve comprises a cylindrical valve tube (510) in which a cup-shaped diaphragm (540) is carried on radial supporting fins (530). The diaphragm (540) comprises a cylindrical side wall (542) extending from a closed end wall (544), and has externally near the free end of the side wall (542) a sealing surface which engages with, and presses by virtue of the inherent resilience of the diaphragm (540), against an annular sealing ridge (522) formed internally within the valve tube (510). An end cap (512) and dust barrier (538) carried on the free end of the valve tube (510) protect the mating valve sealing surfaces against contamination. The valve throat is opened by radially-inwards movement of the diaphragm sealing surface from the internal ridge (522) of the valve tube when the pressure in the valve tube (510) falls below that in the end cap (512) and overcomes the pre-stressing in the diaphragm.
