Definitions

  • the present invention provides a composition useful for treating seeds as well as methods of treatment thereof.
  • Seed treatment compositions for agricultural crops are known and a broad spectrum of technologies is being practiced nowadays to treat seeds to provide seed and plant protection and to improve the establishment of healthy crops. These methods for seed treatment include dressing, coating, and pelleting of the seeds.
  • Seed treatment is the process of applying active ingredients to seeds in order to support the germination and/or the growth of a large variety of crops.
  • Typical examples include the application of pesticides such as fungicides, insecticides, and plant growth regulators, as well as other active ingredients such as fertilizers.
  • Zoxamide (3,5-dichloro-N-(3-chloro-l-ethyl-l-methyl-2-oxopropyl)-4-methyl benzamide) is a benzamide fungicide active against fungi on potatoes (foliar, stem and tuber blights), vines (especially vine downy mildew on bunches) and vegetables like grape downy mildew and potato late blight. It is only approved for use as foliar treatment.
  • An object of the present invention was to provide a seed treatment composition against various fungal diseases in crops and surprisingly, it has now been found that zoxamide as active ingredient can be used in such seed treatment.
  • the present invention relates to a method for controlling phytopathogenic fungi selected from Plasmopara halstedii; Pythium uitimum, Pythium sp., Hyaioperonospora parasitica; Pienodom us i ingam and Fusarium sp. in various crops by treating the seeds of such crops with a fungicidally effective amount of zoxamide.
  • fungicidally effective amount of zoxamide wherein fungal infections are selected from: a) downy mildew caused by Plasmopara haistedii b) damping-off disease caused by Pythium uitimum or Pythium sp.; c) crucifer downy mildew disease caused by Hyaioperonospora parasitica ; d) phoma or canker disease caused by Pienodomus iingam) e) and diseases caused by Fusarium sp.
  • fungal infections are selected from: a) downy mildew caused by Plasmopara haistedii b) damping-off disease caused by Pythium uitimum or Pythium sp.; c) crucifer downy mildew disease caused by Hyaioperonospora parasitica ; d) phoma or canker disease caused by Pienodomus iingam) e) and diseases caused by Fusarium sp
  • Plants or crops according to the present invention are selected from sunflower, maize, sorghum, soybeans, and oilseed rape.
  • the treatment is applied by covering the seeds with active ingredient, zoxamide, by spraying, dusting, slurrying, soaking, coating or pelleting the seed.
  • zoxamide can be applied to seeds by other commonly known methods of seed treatment according to, for example methods disclosed in W02010/107312 A1 and "Applicator Training Manual for: SEED TREATMENT PEST CONTROL; Dennis M TeKrony, University of Kentucky", 1976. According to the present invention, zoxamide is applied in an amount of about 5 g/t seeds to about 300 g/t seeds.
  • zoxamide is applied in amount of about 10 g/t seeds to about 200 g/t seeds.
  • zoxamide is applied in amount of about 10 g/t seeds to about 100 g/t seeds.
  • zoxamide is applied in amount of about 10 g/t seeds to about 50 g/t seeds.
  • zoxamide is applied in amount of about 24 g/t seeds, 36 g/t seeds or 48 g/t seeds.
  • zoxamide can be applied onto the seeds with other active ingredients such as: a) Fungicides selected from: silthiofam; oxathiopiprolin; propamocarb; fluopicolide; bacillus species; pseudomonas species; imidazoles; imazalil; SDHI fungicides (benodanil, bixafen, boscalid, carboxin, fenfuram, fluopyram, flutolanil, fluxapyroxad, furametpyr, isopyrazam, mepronil, oxycarboxin, penflufen, penthiopyrad, sedaxane, thifluzamide); cyprodinil; triazoxid; pyrimethanil; carboxin; strobilurins selected from azoxystrobin, dimoxystrobin, fluoxastrobin, kresoxim-methyl, metominostrobin, orysastrobin, pic
  • fludioxonil is applied in amount of 125 g/t seeds in combination with zoxamide.
