- the bristles 5 constituting the walls of the voids 6 generate a capillary force between them and paint could be stored in the voids 6. If the thickness of the voids 6 is to large, i.e. if the distance between the bristles 5 constituting opposite walls of the voids 6, the capillary force will be overcome by the gravity force acting on the paint. Paint that is picked-up by the paint brush 1 when it is dipped in paint, will be sucked into the bundle of bristles 4 and partly stored in the voids 6.
- the voids 6 will be filled with paint from the top 6b of the voids 6 to a distance towards the bottom 6b of the voids 6 as long as the thickness T6 is below a threshold at which the gravity forces overcomes the capillary forces. Paint that is sucked into the voids 6 are first sucked up by capillary forces between the bristles in the top bundle part 41. The larger volume of the voids 6 that has a thickness T6 that is below the threshold, the more paint could be picked-up and stored in the paint brush 1.
- the ridges and valleys 34, 37; 35, 38 of the set of inserts 3, increases the area that each first and second inserts 31, 32 are in contact with bristles 5.
- the set of inserts 3 comes into contact with a larger part of the bristles 5 in the bundle of bristles 4 (compared to inserts without ridges and valleys) and thereby creates larger volumes of the voids 6 that has a thickness that is below the threshold. Put in another way, the possible paint pick-up of the paint brush 1 is increased.
- the thickness T6 of the base 6a is 3 mm or smaller. According to an aspect, the thickness T6 of the base 6a is 2 mm or smaller.
- the ridges 34, 37 and the valleys 35, 38 extend across the whole length L2 of the first and/or second insert 31, 32.
- a distance between two adjacent ridges 34, 37 are at least 3 mm. According to an aspect, a distance between two adjacent ridges 34, 37 are at least 1 mm.
- a distance between two adjacent the valleys 35, 38 are at least 3 mm. According to an aspect, a distance between two adjacent the valleys 35, 38 are at least 1 mm. According to an aspect, the number of ridges 34, 37 are different from the number of the valleys 35,38 of the first or second insert surface 33a, 33b; 36a, 36b.
- the ridges and valleys 34, 37; 35, 38 of the set of inserts 3, increases the area of each first and second inserts 31, 32 that are in contact with bristles 5.
- the thickness of the first and second inserts 31, 32 could be adapted and optimized in relation to capillary forces without a need to increase the number of first and second inserts 31, 32. This also makes it possible to increase the paint pick-up without increasing the number of insert of the paint brush 1 and thereby make the production more complex.
- Paint that is picked-up by the paint brush 1 and stored in the voids 6, will also be wetting the walls of the voids 6, i.e. the bristles 5, and be sucked in to smaller voids between bristles 5 by capillary forces. As the area of the walls of the voids 6 are increased, also the paint pick-up increased by this way of paint pick-up.
- the painter starts by dipping the paint brush 1 in paint. Often the top and middle bundle part 41, 42 is dipped in paint. Paint is sucked in to the small voids between the bristles 5 at the top of the top bundle part 41. Thereafter the paint is sucked further up in the bundle of bristles 4 by capillary forces and sucked into the voids 6 in the middle bundle part 42.
- the bristles 5 constituting the walls of the voids 6 picks-up paint by wetting of the bristles 5 and by capillary forces sucking the paint into smaller voids between the bristles 5.
- the set of inserts 3 increases the amount of paint that the paint brush 1 in configured to pick-up.
