Due to the combined pressure applied by the punch (303) and the plurality of segments (2), the brim portion (202) may be thickened about the inner surface (201) of the tube (200), where the thickening may resemble the profde defined on the outer surface of the plurality of segments (2), as best seen in FIG.2.

As the one segment (2a) of the plurality of segments (2) collapses, connection between the remaining segments (2b) of the plurality of segments (2) within the tube (200) may be fragile and may be individually retrieved from inside of the tube (200), as seen in FIG. 5.
  • the punch (303) may be simultaneously from either ends of the tube (200) and may be driven by an external actuation source [not shown in figures], where the external actuation source may be driven by mechanisms such as, but not limited to, hydraulic mechanism, pneumatic mechanism, electrical means, and the like. Further, the pressure exerted by the punch (303) may plastically deform the brim portion (202) about internal surface of the tube (200) at its either ends.
  • the assembly (100) can simultaneously thicken the inner surface (201) of the brim portion (202) on both the ends of the tube (200), this ensures lower cycle time which improves the productivity in manufacturing plant. Further, the process has low operation cost over the conventional device due use of less tonnage equipment. Also, the tubes undergo strain hardening during the process, facilitating in increase in strength of the tube (200).

Abstract

La présente divulgation concerne un ensemble mandrin (100) permettant d'épaissir une partie bord (202) dans une surface interne (201) d'un tube (200), en particulier des tubes pouvant être utilisés dans des éléments constitutifs d'une automobile. L'ensemble mandrin (100) comprend un élément noyau central (1) conçu pour porter de manière rigide une pluralité de segments (2) sur une surface externe, afin de recevoir le tube (200) le long de sa longueur. La pluralité de segments (2) peut être disposée entre l'élément noyau central (1) et la surface interne (201) du tube (200) ; au moins une extrémité de chaque segment parmi la pluralité de segments (2) comporte une région de formation (3) ; et la partie bord (202) du tube (200) est déformable le long de la région de formation (3) de la pluralité de segments (2). Ainsi, l'ensemble mandrin (100) est amovible et le tube (200) peut être épaissi simultanément à partir des deux extrémités.
