Definitions

  • the invention relates in general to a vehicle for depositing feed along a feed fence for animals.
  • the invention relates in particular to a vehicle for depositing feed along a feed fence for animals, in particular cows, such as dairy cows or meat cows, wherein the vehicle comprises a container for accommodating feed, which is provided with a dispensing opening for allowing the feed accommodated in the container to flow out of the container on account of the force of gravity when the vehicle moves in a direction of travel along the feed fence during operation, and wherein the vehicle comprises a feed- displacement device for displacing, during operation, remaining feed which is situated along the feed fence and fresh feed which has flowed out of the container via the dispensing opening substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence in order to form a swath-shaped heap of feed along the feed fence.
  • the automatic feed system Vector ® by Lely is known.
  • This feed system comprises an autonomous and self-propelled vehicle, which is used to deposit feed along a feed fence for animals in an automated manner.
  • the vehicle comprises a container which is filled with a batch of feed.
  • the feed-containing vehicle drives along the feed fence, the feed is allowed to flow out of the container via a dispensing opening which is provided in the container, in such a way that a strip of feed in the form of a swath shaped heap of feed along the feed fence is formed.
  • Animals which are situated behind the feed fence are able to reach feed deposited by the vehicle by passing their head through an opening in the feed fence.
  • Feed may be supplied in various forms and may contain relatively large, tuberous components, such as potatoes and/or beets, in their entirety and/or in pieces, and optionally mixed with smaller components.
  • relatively large, tuberous components such as potatoes and/or beets
  • the above-mentioned vehicle receives feed containing such relatively large components and dispenses this feed from the container via the dispensing opening, it is possible for these relatively large components to roll away in a direction away from the feed fence when dosing out the feed, as a result of which the large, tuberous components of the feed can no longer be reached by the animals. This undesirable effect may occur, in particular, when the large, tuberous components have a generally round shape.
  • this object is achieved in that the vehicle is provided with a deflecting device for deflecting feed which has flowed out of the container via the dispensing opening during operation of the vehicle, in a direction substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence, wherein the deflecting device is configured to move and/or guide tuberous components, such as potatoes and/or beets, in the fresh feed in such a way in the direction substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence that these tuberous components, after the remaining feed and the fresh feed have been displaced by the feed-displacement device to form the swath-shaped heap of feed, are substantially situated in or on this swath-shaped heap of feed, and in particular remain therein or thereon.
  • a deflecting device for deflecting feed which has flowed out of the container via the dispensing opening during operation of the vehicle, in a direction substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence
  • the vehicle according to the invention comprises a feed-displacement device for, during operation, displacing remaining feed which is situated along the feed fence, i.e. feed which the animals have not yet eaten, together with fresh feed which has just flowed out of the container via the dispensing opening, substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence in order to form a swath shaped heap of feed along the feed fence.
  • the animals While eating, the animals push the feed away from the feed fence until it is out of reach of the animals.
  • the feed- displacement device By means of the feed- displacement device, the feed is moved back and/or pushed back in the direction towards the feed fence when the vehicle drives along the feed fence.
  • the feed- displacement device is active, viewed in the direction of travel of the vehicle, behind the dispensing opening.
  • the feed-displacement device is configured to push back not only remaining feed which is still situated along the feed fence, but also freshly dosed-out feed. The fresh feed is pushed together with the remaining feed to form the swath-shaped heap of feed.
  • the tuberous components of the feed are passed further towards the feed fence than if the deflecting device were not present in the vehicle.
  • the deflecting device is intended to move the feed containing the tuberous components which has flowed out of the container via the dispensing opening during operation of the vehicle, away from the dispensing opening, in the direction towards the feed fence, immediately after the feed flows out of the dispensing opening and before the feed ends up on the floor along the feed fence.
  • the deflecting device is thus configured to pass the tuberous components in the fresh feed which flows out of the container via the dispensing opening, in the direction substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence over such a distance that these tuberous components, after the remaining feed and the fresh feed together have been pushed back by the feed-displacement device to form the swath-shaped heap of feed, remain substantially in and/or on this swath-shaped heap of feed, i.e. within reach of the animals.
  • the animals along the feed fence can then eat the tuberous components of the ration.
  • a deflecting device is generally known, also for use with feed mixing wagons.
  • the known deflecting devices for use with feed-mixing wagons are configured to counteract a feed stream towards the feed fence, in particular to prevent feed from flying through the feed fence, as is the case with a transverse conveyor belt for dispensing feed from the feed-mixing wagon laterally.
  • the deflecting device according to the invention is configured not to counteract a stream of feed towards the feed fence, but in fact to ensure it.
  • EP 2845473 A1 discloses a mixing/dosing wagon for a fodder, in particular for dosing roughage in the cow-calf industry.
  • the mixing/dosing wagon comprises a mobile undercarriage and a bin for containing the fodder.
  • the bin comprises a lateral discharge opening for discharging the fodder.
  • flexible, rubber guide members are fitted to the outside of the bin which are adapted for guiding the discharged fodder towards a trough.
  • the swath-shaped heap of feed of remaining feed and fresh feed along the feed fence comprises a highest line
  • the deflecting device is configured in such a way that, after the feed-displacement device has displaced the remaining feed and the fresh feed in order to form the swath-shaped heap of feed, the tuberous components in the fresh feed substantially end up between this highest line and the feed fence.
  • the feed-displacement device is configured in such a way that, during operation, it displaces remaining feed which is situated along the feed fence, i.e.
  • the deflecting device is configured to pass the tuberous components in the fresh feed which flows out of the container via the dispensing opening during operation of the vehicle, over such a distance in the direction substantially transversely to the direction of travel of the vehicle and towards the feed fence that these tuberous components end up substantially between this highest line and the feed fence after the feed-displacement device has pushed the remaining feed and the fresh feed together in order to form the swath-shaped heap of feed.
  • the tuberous components then end up on the flank of the heap of feed which runs obliquely downwards and towards the feed fence. This ensures that the tuberous components of the feed do not roll in a direction away from the feed fence. When they end up in the swath-shaped heap of feed, these components are more likely to roll in a direction towards the feed fence, i.e. they remain within reach of the animals.
