Le crochet a une face concave et une face convexe opposée à la face concave. Le joint à poser est accroché au crochet et est enroulé autour de la jante en pouvant ainsi se dérouler en étant parfaitement guidé sans torsion. En outre, cela permet d'emmagasiner le joint à l'abri des poussières et autres salissures par contact avec le sol, comme c'est le cas pour des joints d'une longueur de chaque brin rectiligne de 3 à 4 mètres. Un joint peut être mis dans cette rainure 43 et enfilé ainsi autour du toc 41. De l'autre côté de la rainure 43, la face inférieure se poursuit par une barre 44 centrale longitudinale sur laquelle est apposée une flèche F indiquant le sens d'introduction du coulisseau. Deux rampes 45, symétriques l'une de l'autre par rapport à la barre 44, sont disposées sur les bords longitudinaux de l'outillage.
