  • a lower cap 42 is applied to the flanges so that the free edges 16a of the flanges 16 are bent back on themselves along with the edges 42a of the cap 42 to provide a hemmed flange.
  • the cap 42 also provides for increased section properties for the main runner 10 due to the additional mass provided by the cap 42.
  • the bulb 12 of the runner 10 is modified to provide for a greater beam height than a standard runner configuration. More specifically, the vertical dimension of the bulb 12 is increased and the upper corners 44 of the bulb 12 are rounded. The rounded corners 44 help to avoid interference between the bulb 12 and light fixture housings that are supported in the assembled grid system.
  • the bulb 12 has a height of 1.308 cm (0.515") and a width of 0.635 cm (0.250"), with the corners of the bulb having a radius of 0.236 cm (0.093"), while the runner has an overall height of 4.166 cm (1.640").
  • the enhanced strength provided to a main runner having the combination of features described above permit the runner to be formed of thinner material than the prior art runner without compromising the beam strength of the runner.
  • the thickness of the sheet material from which the main runner is roll formed may be reduced on the order of 20% (e.g., from 0.038 cm to 0.030 cm (0.015" to 0.012")).

Claims (16)

  1. Eine Hauptschiene (10) für ein Hängedeckengittersystem, umfassend:
    a) einen mittigen Steg (14), der aus zwei Lagen Metallblech gebildet ist und ein erstes und zweites Ende aufweist;
    b) eine Verstärkungsröhre (12), die sich von einem oberen Abschnitt des mittigen Stegs (14) zwischen dem ersten und zweiten Ende des mittigen Stegs (14) erstreckt;
    c) entgegengesetzte Flansche (16), die sich von einem Abschnittsende des mittigen Stegs (14) zwischen dem ersten und zweiten Ende des mittigen Stegs (14) erstrecken;
    d) einen ersten und zweiten Endverbinder (18), die mit dem mittigen Steg (14) einstückig ausgebildet sind und sich jeweils von dem ersten und zweiten Ende des mittigen Stegs (14) an den Flanschen (16) vorbei erstrecken, wobei der erste Endverbinder (18) aus einer durch den mittigen Steg (14) definierten Ebene heraus in einer ersten Richtung (X) versetzt ist und der zweite Endverbinder (18) aus der durch den mittigen Steg (14) definierten Ebene heraus in einer zweiten Richtung entgegengesetzt zu der ersten Richtung (X) versetzt ist, wobei jeder des ersten und zweiten Endverbinders (18) eine distale Kante (20) aufweist;
    e)ein Band (22) angrenzend an jedem Ende des mittigen Stegs (14), das aus der Ebene des mittigen Stegs heraus in einer Richtung (Y) entgegengesetzt zu dem angrenzenden Endverbinder (18) verformt ist, wobei das Band (22) dazu konfiguriert ist, einen Endabschnitt (24) eines Endverbinders (18) eines zweiten Profils aufzunehmen;
    f) wobei jeder des ersten und zweiten Endverbinders (18) ferner eine rechteckig geformte Erhebung (26) umfasst, die sich aus einer ersten Seite des Endverbinders (18) heraus erstreckt, wobei die Erhebung durch eine proximale Kante, eine distale Kante, eine obere Kante und eine untere Kante definiert ist,
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, das jeder des ersten und zweiten Endverbinders ferner eine erste und zweite voneinander beabstandete Verriegelungslasche (28) umfasst, die jeweils eine proximale konische Rastfläche (30) und distale Verriegelungsfläche (32) aufweisen, die sich aus einer zweiten Seite des Endverbinders (18) heraus erstrecken, sodass die distale Verriegelungsfläche (32) der Verriegelungslaschen die distale Kante (20) des Endverbinders (18) des zweiten Profils in Eingriff nimmt.
  2. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 1, die ferner eine erste Reihe (36) in Längsrichtung beabstandeter Stiche (34) am oberen Ende des Stegs (14) angrenzend an die Röhre (12) und eine zweite Reihe (38) in Längsrichtung beabstandeter Stiche (34) am unteren Ende des Stegs (14) angrenzend an die Flansche (16) aufweist, wobei die Stiche (34) in der ersten Reihe (36) relativ zu den Stichen (34) in der zweiten Reihe gestaffelt sind.
  3. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 1, die ferner eine untere Kappe (42) umfasst, die auf die Flansche (16) aufgebracht ist, sodass die freien Kanten (16a) der Flansche (16) zusammen mit den Kanten (42a) der Kappe (42) auf sich selbst zurückgebogen sind, um einen gebördelten Flansch bereitzustellen.
  4. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 2, die ferner eine untere Kappe (42) umfasst, die auf die Flansche (16) aufgebracht ist, sodass die freien Kanten (16a) der Flansche (16) zusammen mit den Kanten (42a) der Kappe (42) auf sich selbst zurückgebogen sind, um einen gebördelten Flansch bereitzustellen.
  5. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Hauptschiene (10) eine Gesamthöhe von 4,166 cm (1,640") aufweist und die Röhre (12) eine Höhe von 1,308 cm (0,515") und abgerundete obere Kanten (44) aufweist.
  6. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 2, wobei die Hauptschiene (10) eine Gesamthöhe von 4,166 cm (1,640") aufweist und die Röhre (12) eine Höhe von 1,308 cm (0,515") und abgerundete obere Kanten (44) aufweist.
  7. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 3, wobei die Hauptschiene (10) eine Gesamthöhe von 4,166 cm (1,640") aufweist und die Röhre (12) eine Höhe von 1,308 cm (0,515") und abgerundete obere Kanten (44) aufweist.
  8. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 4, wobei die Hauptschiene (10) eine Gesamthöhe von 4,166 cm (1,640") aufweist und die Röhre (12) eine Höhe von 1,308 cm (0,515") und abgerundete obere Kanten (44) aufweist.
  9. Die Hauptschiene (10) nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Hauptschiene (10) aus Blechmaterial gefertigt ist, das eine Dicke von 0,030 cm (0,012") aufweist.
