Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a timepiece comprising a ring displaying a plurality of time zones, and a ring displaying a plurality of hours, the two rings being in relative movement with respect to each other, so as to display simultaneously the time in all indicated time zones.
  • CH710890 describes a watch in which the time zone indications are distributed over two concentric rings at the outer periphery of the hour ring. This arrangement makes it possible to enlarge the city names, but the significant distance between the time indications and the indications on the outermost ring makes it difficult to read the time in the zones indicated on this outer ring.
  • CH677056 describes a watch with an hour disk making one revolution in twelve hours, and a time zone ring divided into twelve equidistant segments, each corresponding to an hour and designating two time zones twelve hours out of phase.
  • Each segment has two city or place names, one at the inner edge and one at the outer edge. This arrangement therefore does not make it possible to immediately know which of the two time zones on each segment is before or after midday.
  • An aim of the present invention is to improve the readability of timepieces displaying the simultaneous time in several time zones.
  • An aim of the present invention is to propose a timepiece comprising hour markings and time zone markings that are simple to adapt to the user's preferred time zone.
  • this solution has the particular advantage of distributing the time zone indications over two rings, which offers more space available for each indication.
  • This solution also has the advantage of bringing the time zone indications (city names) closer to the time indications, which makes it easier to determine the time corresponding to each zone.
  • the second ring is in a first plane while the first and third rings are in a second plane, the first and second planes being superimposed.
  • the second plane can be above the first plane when the watch is placed on its back.
  • the first and third ring may consist of concentric portions of a single transparent ring superimposed above the second ring. This solution facilitates the driving of the first and third rings which can be driven by a single mechanism for rotating said transparent ring.
  • This transparent ring can be provided with time zone indications placed on its underside. This reduces the vertical distance between the time indications and the time zone indications, which reduces parallax problems.
  • the second ring carrying the hour indications is transparent and superimposed above the first and third rings.
  • Time zone indications may consist of city names or city name abbreviations.
  • the time zone indications on the first ring can all be carried on a first diameter, and the time zone indications on the third ring all carried on a third diameter. This reduces the distance between each time zone indication and the corresponding time.
  • the first and third rings carrying the time zone indications can be rotated simultaneously relative to the second ring carrying the time indications, which remains fixed relative to the watch case.
  • ring includes both a ring provided with a central opening and a disc lacking such a central opening, or a disc provided only with an axle hole.
  • FIG. 1 An example of a watch movement 1 provided with its hands 5 and intended to be integrated into a timepiece, for example a wristwatch, is illustrated on the figure 1 . It comprises
  • the movement 1 comprises a first ring 2 displaying a plurality of time zone indications 20, a second ring 3 displaying 24 hour indications 30, and a third ring 4 displaying a plurality of time zone indications. 40 time zones.
  • the time zone indications 20, respectively 40 correspond for example to names or abbreviations of city names in each of these zones, or to any other time zone identification.
  • the 24 time indications 30 from 1 to 24 correspond to the hours of the day.
  • the time zone rings 2 and 4 can be rotated relative to the hour ring 3, so as to indicate at each moment the time in each said time zone.
  • the time zone indications are distributed over the two rings 2, 4, so that that the time zones are indicated alternately on the first outer ring 2 and on the third inner ring 4.
  • the second ring 3 carrying the hours 30 is fixed relative to the watch case, and the time zone rings 2, 4 rotate relative to this ring 3, making a 360° turn in 24 hours.
  • the time zone rings 2, 4 are fixed relative to the watch case, while the hour ring 3 rotates between these two rings making a 360° turn in 24 hours.
  • the rotation of the movable ring(s) is preferably incremental, with an almost instantaneous angular jump every hour.
  • the time zone rings are in reality constituted by two annular portions of the same transparent and monolithic annular part 7 which is superimposed above the hour ring 3.
  • the width of the ring 7 is more larger than the portion of the hour ring 3 bearing the hour indications 30, so that the first ring 2 is formed by the portion of the ring 7 which projects outside the ring 3, while the third ring 4 is formed by a portion of the ring 7 which protrudes inside the ring 3.
  • the transparent annular part 7 can be made of sapphire, or another transparent material.
  • the time zone indications 20, 40 are preferably marked on the underside of this part, so as to minimize the vertical distance between these indications and those of the second ring 3, and thus to reduce parallax problems.
  • time zone ring(s) are arranged in a lower plane above which a transparent hour ring is arranged.
  • the second ring 3 is in the same plane as the first and third rings 2, 4. This arrangement, however, requires a more complex mechanism for driving the movable ring(s), for example by dissociating the two rings 2 and 4.
