  • An objective of the present invention is to provide a foldable shelf wherein the change in orientation of the lower shelf does not cause the shelf to shake.
  • Another objective of the present invention is to provide a foldable shelf wherein the lower shelf is pivotably and releasable hanged onto the upper shelf which in turn eliminates the possibility of falling off the articles from the lower shelf should the user contact the lower shelf by accident.
  • the method realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the first claim and the dependent claims comprises a cooling appliance having a body.
  • the body accommodates a first shelf wherein the first shelf is placed inside the body via a pair of dikes or a pair of rims provided on the side walls of the body.
  • a second shelf is hanged to the first shelf from below via a first link and a second link.
  • the second shelf has two orientations with respect to the first shelf. During second orientation, the second shelf is distanced apart from the first shelf by a distance. The distance is directly related with the length of the first link and the second link. During the second orientation, the second shelf forms a surface onto which the articles to be cooled are placed.
  • the first link comprises a channel wherein a front end of the second shelf is accommodated.
  • the first link further comprises a primary holding means inside the channel.
  • the primary holding means is configured to pivotably and releasable hold the front end.
  • the front end remains seated inside the channel.
  • the front end remains in between the primary holding means and the first link.
  • the front end is cylindrical in shape and thanks to its shape, it pivots as the orientation changes.
  • the user can remove the front end by pushing it out of the cavity formed in between the first link and the primary holding means. Similarly, the user can insert the front end by pushing it into the cavity formed in between the first link and the primary holding means. In both cases, the primary holding means provides a tactile feedback. This helps the user to understand that the second shelf is in place.
  • the first link comprises a secondary holding means inside the channel.
  • the secondary holding means hold the second shelf similar to the primary holding means. The user, after changing the orientation from the first orientation to the second orientation, pushes the second shelf towards the rear of the cooling appliance thus activating the secondary holding means.
  • the secondary holding means works exactly like the primary holding means.
  • the secondary holding means provides a tactile feedback.
  • the second shelf comprises a first lug and wherein the first lug is configured to be seated inside a first recess on the first link as the orientation changes from the second orientation to the first orientation.
  • the second shelf comprises a second lug and wherein the second lug is configured to be seated inside a second recess on the second link as the orientation changes from the second orientation to the first orientation.
  • the second shelf comprises a retaining area via which the user holds the second shelf and changes the orientation of the second shelf.
  • the retaining area is concave shaped.
  • the first shelf comprises a protrusion onto which the first link and/or the second link abut in the first orientation. It is to be understood that there can be plurality of protrusion for each one of the said links.
  • the orientation of the second shelf can be changed with minimum lateral movement and/or shaking.
  • An advantageous effect of this invention is that the orientation of the second shelf in the second orientation is fixed. This helps eliminate the possibility of the articles tipping over the second shelf should the user hit the second shelf by accident.
  • the present invention relates to a cooling appliance comprising; a body, a first shelf (1), a second shelf (2) configured to be hanged underneath the first shelf (1) via a first link (3) and a second link (4) between a first orientation during which the second shelf (2) extends almost adjacent to the first shelf (1) and a second orientation during which the second shelf (2) is distanced apart from the first shelf (1) so as to store articles thereon, wherein the first link (3) comprises a channel (5) accommodating a front end (6) of the second shelf (2).
  • the present invention relates to a primary holding means (7) inside the channel (5) configured to releasably and pivotably hold the front end (6) in between itself and the first link (3).
  • the first shelf (1) is placed inside the body.
  • the first shelf (1) is supported inside the body by being slidably placed onto the side walls of the body.
  • the second shelf (2) is hanged to the first shelf (1) by means of the first link (3) and the second link (4).
  • the first shelf (1) has two positions. During the first orientation, the second shelf (2) extends almost adjacent and parallel to the first shelf (1). The distance between the first shelf (1) and the second shelf (2) during the first orientation is small such that the articles cannot be placed in between the second shelf (2) and the first shelf (1).
  • the second shelf (2) is distanced apart from the first shelf (1) and extends parallel to the first shelf (1). As the orientation of the second shelf (2) changes from the first orientation to the second orientation, or the other way around, the second shelf (2) remains parallel to the first shelf (1). During the second orientation, the distance between the second shelf (2) and the first shelf (1) allows the users to placed articles to be cooled onto the second shelf (2).
  • the second shelf (2) comprises the front end (6) via which the second shelf (2) is hanged to the first shelf (1) via the first link (3).
  • the first link (3) comprises the channel (5) wherein the front end (6) is accommodated.
  • the channel (5) and therefore the first link (3) comprises the primary holding means (7).
  • the primary holding means (7) can be in the form of a fastener but it is to be understood that the person skilled in the art can use any other means suitable for the task.
  • the primary holding means (7) holds the front end (6) in between itself and the first link (3) in a pivotable and releasable manner.
  • the user upon pressing onto the second shelf (2) forces the front end (6) to be inserted inside the cavity formed between the primary holding means (7) and the first link (3).
  • the primary holding means (7) creates a tactile feedback, informing the user that the front end (6) is seated. By means of the tactile feedback, a feedback mechanism is created for the user.
