Definitions
- the invention relates to a coupling head, in particular for a rail vehicle, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the respective coupling head is formed from a two-part or multi-part housing. It is provided with a coupling element and the respective other coupling head with a corresponding recess.
- This coupling member is designed to engage in the recess of the other coupling head when coupling.
- a securing member for securing the engaged clutch member is assigned to this.
- a locking mechanism is designed as a lever arrangement in the housing, in which a locking element is provided which has a latch which can be rotated about a vertical axis, which can be rotated between an initial position and an active position and which can be connected via an intermediate lever to the unlocking lever in active connection is established.
- This unlocking lever is intended for direct or indirect securing of the securing member in the locking position and for unlocking the locking mechanism, the intermediate lever and the unlocking lever being pivotably mounted.
- a reduction in the locking force is also provided, which enables manual unlocking.
- the pamphlet U.S. 3,283,917 discloses a vehicle coupler having a housing, a rocker arm, a key set, an anti-creep element, a lock, a releasing lever and other elements.
- the housing essentially consists of a box that is open on both sides and has two lateral walls with interruptions.
- the abutment surface is not formed by the housing, but rather by the closure mounted in this housing, which is designed above the housing with this abutment surface, which can be coupled with a similar one of the other coupling half. When coupling, the two closures assume their closed positions on the side surfaces of the other flanks.
- the disadvantage of this vehicle coupler is that the very high tensile and compressive forces during the coupling process and in the coupled rail vehicles cannot be adequately absorbed during operation, since these forces are directed to the locks and via these bearings into the housing.
- a coupling is provided with a coupling plate on its front side with an abutment surface which, during coupling, comes into contact with such a coupling head of a rail vehicle to be connected.
- the coupling is connected to the rail vehicle by a pulling and buffing device.
- the housing is designed in two parts and its upper and lower sides are releasably connected by transverse screws.
- the invention is based on the object of further developing a coupling head of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it is provided with a compact and stable structure and is easy to produce.
- the housing of the coupling head is produced essentially as a one-piece pot shape, in which the abutment surface is arranged on the front wall and this connecting flange is arranged on the rear wall.
- This front abutment surface and this vane which is advantageously attached, serve as a centering means and as a flat support for contact with an abutment surface of a coupling head to be coupled.
- this connection flange enables the coupling head to be attached to a drawbar or similar of a coupling device articulated on the vehicle.
- such a known coupling and locking mechanism is integrated in this pot-shaped housing.
- this coupling head according to the invention is optimally designed to absorb the very high tensile and compressive forces that occur during the coupling process and in the coupled rail vehicles during operation, in particular when accelerating or braking.
- the abutment surface of the front wall of the housing also has a recess on both sides, from which a bolt of the coupling and locking mechanism protrudes through one recess, while a corresponding bolt of the to be coupled coupling head is feasible.
- Corresponding bearings are formed in the housing, in which, according to the invention, this bolt is held so as to be pivotable about an axis running vertically to the lower floor wall. It is operatively connected to a roller lever and the latter to a cam lever in such a way that the bolt causes either a coupling with the other coupling head or a decoupling.
- the roller lever and the cam lever are mounted on a support member fixed in the housing.
- Figures 1 to 3 show a coupling head 10 which is used in particular in rail vehicles, such as for passenger or freight cars, but which in principle could also be used for coupling other cars.
- This coupling head 10 is provided with a housing 20 which has an abutment surface 12 on the front for a flat contact with an abutment surface of a coupling head to be coupled for coupling two rail vehicles or the like.
- a connection flange 11 is arranged on the rear of the housing 20, by means of which a connection flange 11 is attached to a pull rod or the like of a coupling device which can be fastened in an articulated manner to a vehicle body.
- a guide vane 15 is arranged at an angle to the coupling direction A for centering the coupling heads 10 to be connected.
- it corresponds to a vane of the coupling head to be coupled, which is identical to the coupling head 10 shown, but is pivoted horizontally by 180° and is fastened to the coupling device of the vehicle to be coupled.
- a clutch and locking mechanism 30 which functions in a manner known per se and is composed of a lever arrangement with interacting pivotable levers which is explained in more detail below.
- the housing 20 is produced essentially as a one-piece pot shape, in which the abutment surface 12 is formed on the front wall 21 and at least one guide vane 15 is formed on the side of the front wall 21 and this connecting flange 11 is formed on the rear wall 22 .
- This essentially one-piece pot-shaped housing 20 is cast and preferably consists of cast steel or nodular cast iron with a predetermined minimum value for its tensile or compressive strength. In principle, however, the housing could be welded together from different parts in the sense of a one-piece pot shape.
- the planes formed by the abutment surface 12 at the front wall 21 and by the rear wall 22 with the connecting flange 11 extend in a V-shape and the side walls 24, 26 connecting them preferably run inward from the rear towards the front wall in order to to achieve maximum strength of the housing.
- At least one continuous angled line wall 25 with openings 27, 28 is formed along its lower bottom wall 23, which is guided from the front wall 21 with the abutment surface 12 to the rear wall 22 or possibly up to the side wall 24 of the housing 20 and which serves to lead through a main air line.
- This angled line wall 25 serves, as it were, as a reinforcement of the housing 20. In principle, however, separate pipes or hoses could also be mounted instead of such a line wall.
- the housing 20 which essentially consists of a one-piece pot shape, is assigned an elongating housing part 29 to the pot to form a recess 14 on the side of the abutment surface 12 , the height of which is slightly smaller than that of the housing 20 .
- This elongating body part 29 protrudes from the front wall 21 in a same plane and is through rearwardly extending Ribs 29' are connected to a slope 24' of the side wall 24 of the housing.
- the guide vane 15 is arranged above the housing 20 so that it projects laterally at a predetermined angle to the abutment surface 12 .
- the angle of inclination of the front guide surface 15' to the abutment surface 12 is preferably 45°. If necessary, the guide vane can also project laterally beyond the side wall 26 .
- the guide vane 15 extends from the outer side wall 26 almost to the middle of the housing 20. Reinforcing ribs 15'', which preferably run transversely to this and are connected to the housing 20 on the top side, are also arranged for sufficient stability of the guide vane.
- a guide element 19 which protrudes from the housing 20 to the abutment surface 12 at the side of the recess 13 and has a stop surface 19' running approximately perpendicular to the abutment surface 12 or perpendicular to the rear wall 22 in the coupling direction A and a funnel-shaped ramp 19".
- This guide element 19 is also used for the power transmission of the coupling heads and for the strength of the housing 10.
- this guide vane 15 and this guide member 19 interact with one of the other coupling head to be coupled in such a way that that the coupling heads can be guided to one another in the coupling direction A in the desired coupling position with vertical and lateral centering, but the coupling mainly also takes place at the abutting surfaces 12 that are in contact.
- This coupling and locking mechanism 30 corresponds in terms of its structure and function to that in the publication mentioned at the outset EP-A-0 972 693 illustrated and explained in detail. Therefore, not all details are shown below.
- this pivotable bolt 35 is pivotably mounted about an axis 35A perpendicular to the bottom wall 23 from an initial position to an operative position and vice versa.
- This bolt 35 has, as in 3 As can be seen, a wing part 36 protruding towards the abutment surface 12 with a contact surface 36' and opposite a wing part 36". When coupling, the outer wing part 36 comes with a front surface of the housing part 29 of the other coupling head when shifting in contact and it causes a rotation of the bolt 35.
- This bolt 35 is operatively connected to a roller lever 31 and the latter to a cam lever 32 in such a way that the bolt effects either a coupling with the other coupling head or a decoupling.
- the roller lever 31 and the cam lever 32 are each prestressed in one direction of rotation by a spring element, so that the roller lever 31 applies a torque to the bolt 35 in the uncoupled position and the cam lever 32 engages behind the roller lever 31 in the coupled position, causing the locking and maintains.
- the cam lever 32 is rotatably connected to a controllable actuator and can be automatically rotated thereby for decoupling. He thus releases the roller lever 31, which in turn is brought into the uncoupled state by the cam lever 32 against the spring force.
- the housing 20 can be tightly closed at the top by a flat cover 19 .
- the coupling and locking mechanism 30 can be mounted in the pot-shaped housing 20 in a simple and easily accessible manner and can then be tightly closed by this cover 19 .

The invention is based on the object of further developing a coupling head of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it is provided with a compact and stable structure and is easy to produce.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features of claim 1 .
According to the invention, the housing of the coupling head is produced essentially as a one-piece pot shape, in which the abutment surface is arranged on the front wall and this connecting flange is arranged on the rear wall.
This front abutment surface and this vane, which is advantageously attached, serve as a centering means and as a flat support for contact with an abutment surface of a coupling head to be coupled. On the back, this connection flange enables the coupling head to be attached to a drawbar or similar of a coupling device articulated on the vehicle. In addition, such a known coupling and locking mechanism is integrated in this pot-shaped housing.
Due to its design with this compact housing, this coupling head according to the invention is optimally designed to absorb the very high tensile and compressive forces that occur during the coupling process and in the coupled rail vehicles during operation, in particular when accelerating or braking.
According to the invention, the abutment surface of the front wall of the housing also has a recess on both sides, from which a bolt of the coupling and locking mechanism protrudes through one recess, while a corresponding bolt of the to be coupled coupling head is feasible. In this way, these functions of coupling and locking or unlocking and decoupling of two coupling heads can take place automatically and with great operational reliability.
Corresponding bearings are formed in the housing, in which, according to the invention, this bolt is held so as to be pivotable about an axis running vertically to the lower floor wall. It is operatively connected to a roller lever and the latter to a cam lever in such a way that the bolt causes either a coupling with the other coupling head or a decoupling. The roller lever and the cam lever are mounted on a support member fixed in the housing.

This
In addition, a

According to the invention, the
This essentially one-piece pot-
The planes formed by the
In this pot-
The
The
During coupling, this

This
The
The invention is sufficiently demonstrated with the above exemplary embodiment and the variants mentioned. However, it could also be implemented by other alternatives. Thus, depending on the circumstances, this vane could be placed differently than shown, such as not above the housing, and it could also be attached to the housing. Likewise, this flange-shaped connecting flange could be designed differently on the back of the housing than illustrated.
