Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a timepiece, in particular a pocket watch, equipped with at least one cover which hides, for example, a dial above which a set of hands moves.
  • a timepiece of the type indicated above is for example known from the Swiss patent CH 689338 A5 on behalf of Patek . More precisely, the timepiece described in the Patek patent is a pocket watch provided with a cover on each of its faces, these covers being able to both be opened using a controlled mechanism by a stud sliding axially in the crown.
  • the principle of the Patek mechanism for opening two top and bottom covers of a pocket watch is to use an actuating pad which, depending on the angular position occupied by the pendant, causes the opening of the one or the other of these two lids.
  • the pendant In a first position, the pendant is in the high position, blocked angularly, and if the user exerts pressure on the stud, it causes the top cover of the wristwatch to open. From this position, if the user moves the pendant slightly towards the middle, the pendant is angularly unlocked and the user can pivot this pendant in a direction of 180°.
  • the pendant has rotated 180°, the user releases the pendant which moves axially under a return action and returns to the high locked position but 180° from its first blocked position. In this second locking position of the pendant, the user can cause the bottom cover to open by pushing on the actuation stud.
  • the Patek pocket watch includes a cover on each of its faces, a pendant and a winding and time-setting mechanism comprising a crown, a barrel and a cylindrical winding stem.
  • the lid opening mechanism comprises an actuating stud which slides axially in the winding crown and which, via sliding rods guided by the winding mechanism, acts on locks which normally hold the lids in place. closed position.
  • the Patek mechanism avoids the risk of scratching the watch case if you use a knife to open one of the two covers, or of breaking a nail because snapping the cover into place is usually relatively hard.
  • the Patek mechanism presents several disadvantages.
  • One of these drawbacks is that the Patek opening mechanism does not seem very practical.
  • the Patek opening mechanism is permanently in a position in which a simple pressure on the actuation pad causes one of the covers to open. Therefore, the risks of one of the covers opening unexpectedly are high, particularly if the watch is in a pocket of clothing.
  • the present invention aims to overcome the problems mentioned above as well as others by providing a timepiece, in particular a pocket watch, comprising a mechanical device for opening at least one cover which covers a dial above which at least one needle or decoration moves, this mechanical opening device being simple in design and use.
  • the present invention as defined in claim 1, relates to a timepiece, in particular a pocket watch, comprising a box delimited by a middle part, the timepiece also comprising at least one cover covering a device for displaying information as well as a device for controlling the opening of at least one cover, this opening control device comprising a ring pendant and a transmission member of control, the ring pendant being arranged to be pushed rectilinearly a first time in the direction of the middle to a first stop position, then to be pivoted in a first direction to a second stop position, then to be pushed rectilinearly a second time in the direction of the middle in order to cause the cover to open by action on the control transmission member.
  • the timepiece comprises a first and a second cover which respectively cover a first and a second information display device as well as a device for controlling the opening of the first, respectively the second cover, this control device opening comprising a pendant ring as well as a first, respectively a second control transmission member, the pendant ring being arranged to be pushed rectilinearly a first time in the direction of the middle to a first stop position, then to be pivoted in a first direction to a second stop position, then to be pushed rectilinearly a second time in the direction of the middle in order to cause the opening of the first cover by action on the first control transmission member, the pendant ring being arranged so as to be able, from the first stop position, to be pivoted in a second direction to a second stop position, then to be pushed rectilinearly a second time in the direction of the middle part in order to cause the opening of the second cover by action on the second control transmission member.
  • the present invention provides a timepiece, in particular a pocket watch, comprising at least one cover whose opening is controlled by action on a pendant which must first be moved rectilinearly in the direction of the middle of the watch, then pivoted before being moved straight again in the direction of the middle to cause the cover to open.
  • a timepiece in particular a pocket watch
  • the sequence of manipulations that the user must carry out to open one or the other of the two covers is practically the same, which greatly facilitates the use of the timepiece.
  • the user does not need to think to determine which sequence of manipulations he must carry out depending on the lid he wishes to open.
  • the device for controlling the opening of a cover of the timepiece according to the invention does not involve any push button; the risks of involuntary opening of the cover are thus avoided, the reliability of the control device is increased and the cost price is reduced.
  • the present invention proceeds from the general inventive idea which consists of equipping a timepiece, in particular a pocket watch, with a device for controlling the opening of at least one cover covering a display device.
  • This control device cannot be activated unintentionally, so that any risk of the cover opening unexpectedly is eliminated; this control device does not use any push button, so that its operation is much more reliable and its cost price reduced; finally, in the case where the timepiece is equipped with two separate covers, the sequence of operations to be carried out to open one or the other of these two covers is almost identical, so that the use of the timepiece according to the invention is very intuitive.
  • the pocket watch according to the invention comprises (see figures 1 and 2A ) a first cover 2a and a second cover 2b. These first and second covers 2a and 2b are arranged to be able to be opened and closed at the request of the user of the pocket watch 1 (see Figures 2B and 2C ).
  • the first and second covers 2a and 2b are pivotally mounted on a middle part 6 of the pocket watch 1, for example by means of hinges 8. When they open, the first and second covers 2a and 2b reveal in the eyes of the user the information display devices that these first and second covers 2a and 2b normally cover.
  • the first cover 2a can cover (see Figure 3A ) a display device such as a time dial 9a above which move for example an hour hand 9b and a minute hand 9c.
  • the second cover 2b it can cover for example (see Figure 3B ) a decorative pattern 11a.
  • the first and second covers 2a and 2b can both cover a dial providing a time indication, one of these dials indicating for example by means of a set of hands the current time, while the another dial 11b can, using another set of hands 11b, 11c, provide an indication relating to a timed time or a second time zone.
  • the invention will be described in connection with a pocket watch provided with a first and a second cover. It will nevertheless be understood that the invention is in no way limited to this particular embodiment and that the invention applies identically to the case where the pocket watch comprises a single cover. It will also be understood that, although described in connection with a pocket watch, the present invention can be applied to any type of timepiece equipped with at least one cover, in particular a wristwatch.
  • the pocket watch comprises a device allowing its user to control the opening of the cover(s). Subsequently, we will describe as “proximal” the elements of the control device located on the side of the middle of the pocket watch, and “distal” the elements of the control device located on the side of the ring. It will also be understood that the tubes which will be discussed below and, more generally, the control device as a whole are centered on a longitudinal axis of symmetry XX which extends in a radial direction directed towards the center of the box of the pocket watch. Likewise, we will describe as “top” an element located on the side of the ring, and “bottom” an element located on the side of the middle.
  • the pocket watch 1 is equipped with a device 10 for controlling the opening of the first and second covers 2a and 2b.
  • This control device 10 comprises (see Figure 4 ) a first pendant 12 which, for reasons of clarity of the presentation, we will hereafter call “ring pendant” 12.

  • the pocket watch 1 includes only one cover, only one groove will be necessary. It will also be understood from reading the following that depending on whether it is desired to open the first cover 2a or the second cover 2b, execution of the opening maneuver will cause the safety pin 54 to slide either in the first groove 76a or in the second groove 76b.
  • the first and second actuating pins 64a, 64b are introduced into first and second holes, respectively 78a and 78b, drilled axially in a second bearing surface 79 provided in the bottom of the middle housing 40. These first and second pins actuation pins 64a, 64b are held in the holes 78a, 78b thanks to their lugs 66a, 66b which rest on the second bearing surface 79 and which prevent these actuation pins 64a, 64b from escaping from the holes 78a, 78b axially in the direction of the middle part 6.
  • the first and second actuating pins 64, 64b bear on a first, respectively a second locking spring 80a, 80b, which are arranged in the box 20 of the pocket watch 1 and which control the opening of the corresponding cover 2a, 2b.
  • the holes 78a, 78b are machined in the second bearing surface 79 of the middle housing 40 diametrically opposed to each other and are located at approximately 90° on either side of the notch semi-cylindrical 74.
  • the retaining plate 68 is shaped so as to be located above the lugs 66a, 66b of the actuating pins 64a, 64b and to prevent these actuating pins 64a, 64b from escape from the holes 78a, 78b axially in the direction of the ring pendant 12.
  • This retaining plate 68 is fixed in the middle housing 40 by means of at least one screw 82 screwed into a tapped hole 84 machined directly above the semi-circular notch 74, where the first and second grooves 76a, 76b meet.
  • the retaining plate 68 is mounted so that a slight axial play remains between the lugs 66a, 66b and the second bearing surface 79, this play defining the stroke of the actuating pins 64a, 64b which allows them to actuate the locking springs 80a, 80b of the first and second covers 2a, 2b.
  • the assembly of the control device 10 is carried out in the following manner: the middle pendant 22 being fixed on the middle part 6 of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1, the middle tube 26 is engaged in the middle pendant housing 40 and we screws it into the middle part 6. After which, we thread the return spring 42 onto the middle tube 26, we introduce the first and second actuating pins 64a, 64b into the first and second holes 78a, 78b, then we screw the retaining plate 68 in the bottom of the middle housing 40, over the actuating pins 64a, 64b. Then, the ring pendant 12 is engaged in the middle pendant 22. For this to be possible, it is necessary to ensure that the ring pendant 12 is oriented so that the safety pin 54 can penetrate into the semi-cylindrical notch 74.
  • the ring pendant 12 cannot be lost and is free to slide axially along the middle tube 26 towards the center of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1 against the restoring force of the return spring 42.
  • the axial travel of the ring pendant 12 is determined by the distance which separates the first flange 30 of the ring tube 24 from the second flange 32 of this same ring tube 24.
  • the crown 18 is fixed in a removable manner to the proximal end of the ring tube 24, and the ring 14 is fixed on the ring pendant 12 by means of the screws 16. It is important to note that the crown 18 is particularly intended for winding a watch movement housed in the box 20 of the pocket watch 1 and plays no role in the operation of the control device 10 which equips the pocket watch 1 according to the invention. Likewise, the presence of the ring 14 is justified by aesthetic and technical considerations (facilitating the actuation of the control device 10 and protecting the crown 18 against the risk of tearing or involuntary operation), but not is not essential for the proper functioning of the control device 10.
  • the control device 10 In its rest state, the control device 10 is in a situation in which the assembly formed by the ring pendant 12 and the ring 14 is pushed back by the return spring 42 towards the outside of the box 20 of the pocket watch 1.

From this position, the user who wishes, for example, to open the first cover 2a of his pocket watch 1, must exert a push on the ring pendant 12 towards the center of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1, at against the return force of the return spring 42.
  • the ring pendant 12 approaches the middle part 6 of the pocket watch case 1, and the tenons 56a, 56b find themselves at immediate proximity of the first and second edges 70a, 70b.
  • the safety pin 54 after coming out of its semi-cylindrical notch 74, it finds itself at the height of the first and second grooves 76a, 76b.
  • the safety pin 54 will penetrate into the first groove 76a and the ring pendant 12 will be able to pivot by approximately 45° until the safety pin 54 reaches abutment 77a at the bottom of the first groove 76a.

  • the height of the first groove 76a in which the safety pin 54 is located is sufficient so that, having arrived in this position, the user, by pushing on the ring pendant 12 against the return force of the spring, reminder 42, manages to move this ring pendant 12 axially towards the middle part 6 of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1.
  • the second tenon 56b penetrates into the clearance 72 and does not produce any effect, while the first tenon 56a comes into contact with the first actuating pin 64a and forces the latter to move axially in the direction of the middle part 6 of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1. It will be understood that , so that the first tenon 56a can come into contact with the first actuating pin 64a, the diameter of the return spring 42 should be less than the diameter of the circle C on which this first tenon 56a is arranged.
  • the axial movement of the first actuation pin 64a is made possible thanks to the fact that the retaining plate 68 is mounted so that a slight axial play remains between the lugs 66a, 66b of the actuation pins 64a, 64b and the second bearing surface 79 provided in the middle housing 40, this clearance defining the stroke of the actuating pins 64a, 64b which allows them to actuate the locking springs 80a, 80b of the first and second covers 2a, 2b.
  • the first actuating pin 64a will actuate the first locking spring 80a which, in turn, will, in a manner known per se, control the opening of the first cover 2a.
  • the pocket watch 1 is provided with two opening springs 86a and 86b which are respectively associated with the first and second covers 2a and 2b and which each comprise a tenon 88a and 88b.

  • the opening springs 86a, 86b are therefore under tension but are prevented from relaxing to return to their rest position because the covers 2a, 2b are held closed by the springs.
  • the two opening springs 80a and 80b are each provided with a lug, respectively 90a and 90b, which projects into a corresponding cavity provided on the interior face of each cover 2a, 2b.
  • the first actuating pin 64a slightly pushes back the spring opening 80a towards the inside of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1, so that the lug 90a comes out of the cavity provided on the interior face of the cover 2a; at this moment, the cover 2a is no longer retained, which allows the opening spring 86a to relax to return to its rest position and cause the cover 2a to pivot upwards.
  • What has just been described for opening the first cover 2a applies in the same way to opening the cover 2b.
  • the opening of the second cover 2b obeys the same rules as the opening of the first cover 2a which we have just described.
  • the ring pendant 12 is rotated by 45° so that the safety pin 54 abuts against the bottom of the second groove 76b. During this movement, the first tenon 56a will come to position itself above the clearance 72, while the second tenon 56b will find itself above the second actuating pin 64b. Then the ring pendant 12 is pushed axially in the direction of the middle part 6 of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1 against the return force of the return spring 42.
  • the first tenon 56a will penetrate into the clearance 72 without produce effect, while the second tenon 56b will press on the second actuating pin 64b and cause its axial movement towards the middle part 6 of the case 20 of the pocket watch 1.
  • the actuation 64b will actuate the second locking spring 80b which, in turn, will control the opening of the second cover 2b in a manner known per se.
