Definitions
- the present invention relates to closure systems for a bracelet, in particular for a flexible bracelet made of synthetic material such as for watch or jewel bracelets.
- Watchbands with a pin buckle or folding clasp have been known for a long time. These systems are quite susceptible to wear, especially those of synthetic materials, are relatively thick and therefore not very comfortable, and have the additional disadvantage that the adjustment of the length of the bracelet is non-continuous, that is to say according to discrete positions which does not allow to properly adjust their length to the diameter of the wearer's wrist. Alternatives have been proposed, such as magnetic or clipped closure bracelets, which allow a more flexible adjustment, but which are often heavy and difficult to use, and / or which require a complex and expensive manufacturing process. In addition, the pin buckles and the folding loops have a large thickness of space that may in some cases be greater than that of the watch they are equipped, thus tarnishing the aesthetic appearance and where appropriate the comfort of the wristwatch .
- the present invention aims to provide a bracelet provided with a light and thin closure system, small, continuously adjustable and which is both easy to use and to manufacture. This object is achieved by a bracelet according to the appended claims.
- the invention relates to a bracelet comprising two strands and provided with a closure system which comprises at least one longitudinal groove on one of the two strands and at least one longitudinal protrusion on the other strand.
- the material and the shape of the groove and the protrusion are configured so that these two elements interlock under the pressure exerted by the user of the bracelet on two parts of the strands which overlap.
- the connection between the strands is easily separated, preferably by peeling the upper strand relative to the lower strand, without opening.
- the bracelet of the invention is adjustable in length continuously, without requiring heavy or complex elements.
- the figure 1 represents the two strands 1 and 2 of a watch strap according to a non-limiting embodiment of the invention and the figure 6 represents a watch 20 provided with this bracelet.
- the strands are substantially flat and flexible, and provided with fasteners 3 for fastening a watch case 21 ( Fig. 6 ).
- the user covers a strand, said the 'lower strand' 1 by a part of the other strand, called the 'upper strand' 2.
- the lower strand 1 has two parallel grooves 4 relative to each other. to the other, which extend over substantially the entire length of its interaction surface with the upper strand 2.
- Said upper strand 2 comprises two protrusions 5 extending substantially over the entire length of its interaction surface with the lower strand 1 and preferably in a continuous manner thereby forming two substantially parallel rails.
- the protuberances 5 are positioned and shaped so that they interlock in the respective grooves 4, under the effect of pressure exerted by the user on the parts of the strands overlapping so as to secure the strands. lower and upper together.
- the section of an outgrowth 5 and the corresponding groove 4 is shown in detail in FIG. figure 2 , in the case where the strands 1 and 2 are uniform elements, ie formed of a single material.
- the section of the protrusion 5 of the upper strand 2 comprises a portion 10 of circular shape, called the "male housing portion", which is attached to the strand 2 by a neck section 11, which is narrower than the housing portion 10.
- the groove section 4 of the lower strand 1 also comprises a housing portion 12 of circular shape which is accessible by a neck section 13 'female housing portion'.
- the neck sections 11 and 13 are thus located between the male and female housing sections 10 and 12 and the surface of interaction of the respective strand 2 and 1.
- the dimensions of the elements 12 and 13 of the groove 4 are equal to or slightly greater than the dimensions of the corresponding elements of the protrusion 5.
- the male and female housing portions may have sections of different shapes as soon as an excrescence with a neck and a groove with a neck is found.
- protrusions and grooves are rectilinear, one can also consider growths and corresponding grooves extending in curved or wavy lines.
- the material of at least one of the strands 1 and 2 is sufficiently flexible so that the protuberances 5 are interlocked by an elastic clipping effect in the grooves 4 when the user compresses the overlapping strand portions. Under the pressure exerted by the user, the protuberances 5 and / or the grooves 4 undergo a slight elastic deformation which allows the passage of the male housing portions 10 of the protrusions 5 through the neck sections 13 of the grooves 4, resulting in a connection which is fixed in the direction perpendicular to the strands 1 and 2, but which is easily separable, preferably by peeling off the upper strand 2 from the lower strand 1.
- 'peeling' is meant a manipulation exerted by the user which consists in the retraction of the upper strand 2 by taking the end of the upper strand 2 and gradually separating it from the lower strand 1. This manipulation makes it possible to remove the protrusion 5 or out of their groove 4 to unlock the closure system.
- the number, position and size of the grooves can be adjusted according to the desired design, materials and fit.
- the figure 3 represents the integral section of the bracelet of the figure 1 , in closed position. It can be seen that the two protuberances 5 are housed in the corresponding grooves 4. The protuberances 5 and the grooves 4 are on both sides and symmetrically with respect to the central and longitudinal plane 6 of the assembled strands. The friction forces between the strands 1 and 2 will prevent sliding separation.
- the section of the interaction surface of the lower strand 1 is slightly convexly bent so that the upper strand 2 resumes the curvature of said surface in the closed position. The upper strand 2 is thus pressed against the lower strand 1 by the retention forces between the grooves 4 and the imbricated protrusions 5, which will increase the friction forces between the strands 1 and 2.
- the grooves 4 of the lower strand 1 are provided with a zone 15 whose surface has received a structure which increases the roughness of said surface.
- This structure will increase the frictional forces between the groove 4 and the protrusion 5 which is housed therein.
- the structured surface may be provided on the grooves 4, on the protuberances 5 or on both.
- the structure may be formed of a succession of bulges forming a corrugation extending along the longitudinal direction of the groove.
- the structure may be provided over the entire length of the protuberances and / or grooves continuously or at regular intervals.
- the number of excrescences 5 and the number of corresponding grooves 4 provided on the strands 1 and 2 of the bracelet is not limited within the scope of the invention.
- the figure 5 represents a sectional view of a bracelet whose lower strand 1 comprises a single groove 4 whose width approaches the width of the strand 1.
- a single protrusion 5 is provided on the upper strand 2.
- the protrusion 5 and the groove 4 comprise again a neck section 11,13 and a housing portion 10,12 which allow the closure of the bracelet by an elastic clipping effect, thanks to a degree of flexibility of at least one of the materials used.
- each strand is a uniform plastic element which allows the production of the strands by casting, injection or extrusion, or thermocompression.
- Various injectable polymeric materials or vulcanized rubber are usable.
- a combination of different materials may be considered, for example bi-material injection to achieve areas of different stiffness may be considered.
- rigid, semi-rigid or articulated strands for example with metal or ceramic links or leather.
- One of the strands then comprises one or more grooves machined in the links.
- the other strand is provided with one or more protuberances of flexible material such as rubber, which is attached (eg glued or overmolded) on the mesh surface of the strand.
- the position of the grooves 4 and excrescences 5 can be reversed with respect to the positions shown in the figures: the protuberances 5 can be on the lower strand 1 and the grooves 4 can be on the upper strand 2.
- only one protrusion 5 is present for each groove 4.
- a number of longitudinal protrusions arranged in series can be provided for each groove, all of which will fit in the same groove 4.
- the bracelet of the invention is not limited to a watchband comprising a watch case and two separate strands.
- the invention also comprises a bracelet in which the first and second strands are interconnected by one of their ends to form a single-piece band B in one piece, for example known under its name NATO, and wherein portions at both ends of the band overlap when the user puts the bracelet as shown in the figure 7 in which my same elements described in connection with the Figures 1 to 6 designate the same elements.
- a bracelet of this type and according to the invention comprises a first part of one side of the strip, provided with at least one groove 4 and a second part on the other side of the strip provided with at least one protrusion 5 as described above.
- the two parts of B-band represent in this case the 'first and second strand' in a bracelet according to the invention.
- a bracelet according to the invention combines a continuous length adjustment with a number of additional advantages.
- the bracelet is easy to use and to manufacture. It is lightweight since no weight for the clasp or magnets is added. It is comfortable for the user thanks to the absence of rigid elements and its small size. In addition, it is very easy to maintain and avoids persistent clogging as in the folding loops.
- the insertion and peeling force can be easily modified by adapting the geometry, the position and / or the number of protrusion / groove pairs.
