Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a motor vehicle structure and more particularly to the lower portion of the underside.
  • the underside structure of a motor vehicle comprises two side members arranged laterally on either side of the vehicle, on which the floor is fixed.
  • Each of these longitudinal members is usually composed of an outer profile and an inner profile.
  • the face of the outer profile facing the outside of the vehicle is covered by a stamped sheet which constitutes a cockpit side, also commonly called skin or body side.
  • the lower part of this sheet usually has an outward bulge whose role is to hide the view of all the beam profiles. But this bulge also has the consequence that the sheet used in the design of the body side must be of a certain height, or the stamping of a body side is also subject to technological constraints.
  • the height of the body side is nevertheless limited by the maximum stamping width of the tools. This proves to be particularly a drawback for the design of commercial vehicles because the height of the interior sides of this type of vehicle is generally higher than that of sedans. It therefore follows from these technical limitations that a portion of sheet metal may be missing at the bottom of the body side so that the latter can be directly assembled on the corresponding spar.
  • the patent document published FR 2 922 509 A1 addresses the problem of forming by stamping of the lower portion of the body sides, forming the bulges vis-à-vis the longitudinal members.
  • this document proposes a solution consisting in reporting an auxiliary metal part between the lower portion of the body side and the lower edge of the outer spar to reduce the drawing depth of the body side.
  • the auxiliary part is in the form of an inverted U whose concavity is turned towards the inside of the hollow non-sealed body delimited by the inner face of the body side and the outer face of the outer spar. This orientation is also the part of the U-shaped part oriented on the bulge side of the lower portion of the body side forms a hollow.
  • the invention aims to overcome at least one of the disadvantages of the state of the art mentioned above. More particularly, the invention aims to limit the corrosion of the sills of motor vehicles, especially utility type vehicles. Furthermore, the invention aims a simple solution, economical and easy to implement on most vehicles.
  • the invention relates to a motor vehicle structure, comprising: two side sill spars located laterally on either side of the vehicle, respectively; two body sides arranged laterally on either side of the vehicle, respectively, and each comprising a lower portion fixed to a lower edge of the corresponding side sill spar; remarkable in that for at least one of the body sides, the lower portion is formed by an auxiliary longitudinal profile attached to an adjacent portion of said body side by a combination of gluing and clinching.
  • the auxiliary longitudinal profile comprises an outer longitudinal edge superimposed on a lower longitudinal edge of the adjacent portion, the attachment by the gluing and clinching combination being between said edges.
  • the superposed edges of the auxiliary longitudinal profile and the adjacent portion of the body side have a transverse profile inclined relative to the horizontal so as to avoid stagnation of water on said edges.
  • the inclination is advantageously greater than 1 °, preferably 5 ° and / or less than 45 °, preferably 20 °.
  • the auxiliary longitudinal profile has a transverse profile with a part forming a gutter, said portion being adjacent and downwards superimposed edges of the auxiliary longitudinal profile and the adjacent portion of the body side.
  • the bonding is continuous along the edges so as to ensure watertightness and protection of the interface against corrosion.
  • the bonding extends continuously over more than 80%, preferably more than 90% and even more preferably 100%, of the overlapping surface of the edges.
  • the auxiliary longitudinal section comprises an inner longitudinal edge fixed to the lower edge of the corresponding side sill spar.
  • the lower edge of the sill spar is formed by a joining rabbet of at least two sections assembled to each other to form said spar.
  • the auxiliary longitudinal profile has an inverted U-shaped cross section.
  • the inner longitudinal edge and the outer edge of the auxiliary longitudinal profile form flanges, respectively, at both ends of the inverted U-shaped profile.
  • said structure comprises a roof and the adjacent portion of the body side is in one piece and extends to the roof.
  • the invention also relates to a method of assembling a body structure of a vehicle, remarkable in that the structure is in accordance with the invention and the attachment between the auxiliary longitudinal section and the adjacent portion of the side of crate is carried out by the two following steps: a) gluing; followed by b) clinching.
  • the measures of the invention are interesting in that they make it possible to limit the degradation by rust of the lower portions of the body sides of motor vehicles and consequently to improve these structures.
  • the clinching operations indeed has the advantage, compared to the electric resistance welding, to work cold and, therefore, not to degrade the bonding done beforehand.
  • FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a rocker of a vehicle structure according to the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the lower part of a rocker of a vehicle structure according to the invention.
  • FIG. 1 represents a section of a rocker 2 of a vehicle structure, at the level of the floor 3.
  • This underside 2 consists of a spar 13 formed by an outer profile 5 and an inner profile 7 which are assembled by their lower lateral wings 10, 12 and 9, 1 1 so that their concavities are turned towards each other and thus form the spar 13.
  • a pre-stamped sheet 15 covers this spar 13 and is part of a body side that covers the outside of the vehicle.
  • the sheet 15 in question is formed in one piece and extends to the roof of the vehicle. In this case in FIG. 1 only the lower part of this part is represented, namely the part corresponding to the rocker 2.
  • the assembly of this sheet 15 to the spar 13 is made at the level of the lateral wings 9, 10, 1 1, 12 profiles 5 and 7.
  • connection with the upper side wings 9, 1 1 being a direct connection and that with the lower side wings 10, 12 being made with an auxiliary longitudinal metal profile 17.
  • This profile 17 s' extends parallel between the lower portion 19 of the body side 15 and the outer profile 5 of the spar 13, a predetermined transverse distance. It constitutes in a way a longitudinal extension of the lower portion 19 of the body side 15 which delimits with the outer profile of the spar 13 a hollow body 21 not necessarily sealed.
  • This longitudinal profile 17 may have different shapes, however for reasons of aesthetic order, especially to hide the spar 13, it is generally formed by an inverted U-shaped part. According to the preferred embodiment shown in FIG. 1, one end of this U-shaped section 17 has an inner longitudinal edge 23 and the other end an outer longitudinal edge 25.
  • Attachment of the U-shaped auxiliary longitudinal channel 17 between the lower portion 19 of the body side 15 and the lower side wings 10, 12 of the sections 5, 7 of the spar 13 is usually achieved by continuous or discontinuous welding points. Glue or putty may also be applied prior to the welding step but when water stagnates at the bowl area 31 this has the effect of corroding the solder points. The glue is then altered by the rust resulting from this corrosion and this results in weakening the fixing of the outer longitudinal edge 25 of the U-shaped auxiliary longitudinal profile 17 with the lower portion 19 of the body side 15. Also to avoid this problem, the outer longitudinal edge 25 of the U-shaped section 17 is in fact attached to the lower longitudinal edge 33 of the adjacent portion 27 of the body side 15 by a combination of bonding and clinching. This assembly is made in the portion where the two edges 25, 33 are superimposed. It thus consists in a first time to glue the two edges 25, 33 and then to fix them by clinching points.
  • the bonding step allows in fact to position and pre-maintain the two edges 25, 33 superimposed to be able to apply the clinching points. It is preferably carried out in a continuous manner so that the adhesive also provides a sealing role.
  • the clinching step is a cold assembly which is particularly interesting because the clinching points, unlike the weld points, are not likely to be oxidized by the corrosion and therefore to degrade the adhesive resulting in a deterioration of 2. For this reason, this method of assembly by gluing and clinching is therefore particularly advantageous for protecting the connection between the outer longitudinal edge 25 of the auxiliary longitudinal profile 17 in the form of corrosion. of U and the lower longitudinal edge 33 of the adjacent portion 27 of the lower portion 19 of the body side 15. It is all the easier to implement that the clinching points are preferably made every 100mm to ensure good holding superimposed edges 25, 33.
  • edges 25, 33 of the U-shaped longitudinal profile 17 and the adjacent portion 27 of the body side 15 can be inclined relative to the horizontal. This inclination is very slight, the angle of inclination may be for example between 1 ° -20 °. This inclination therefore does not alter the U-shaped profile of the profile 17.
  • the channel 17 in U can advantageously have a part forming a gutter 39.
  • the latter is then in this case placed close to and below the superimposed edges 25, 33 of the profile 17 and of the adjacent portion 27 of the body side 15.
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view from below of the lower part of a body side 15 joined to the U-shaped auxiliary longitudinal profile 17 which is itself also fixed to the spar 13.
  • FIG. auxiliary longitudinal section 17 is a longitudinal profile which is fixed between the lower part of a body side 15 and the outer longitudinal edge of the spar 13.
  • the connection between the lower longitudinal edge 33 (not visible ) of the adjacent portion 27 of the body side 15 and the outer longitudinal edge 25 (not visible) of the auxiliary longitudinal profile 17, is represented by an arrow.
  • the bottom wall 35 of the U of the longitudinal section 17 has orifices 37 over at least part of its length, but these orifices 37 do not have a role of evacuation of water.
  • an anti-gravelling layer is also preferably applied by default. This layer, which also indirectly reinforces the tightness of the lower portion 19 of the body side 15, is also applied to the outer surface of the U-shaped longitudinal profile 17 and thus to the clinch-glued assembly zone of the edges 25. 33 but for the sake of clarity it has not been shown in Figures 1 and 2.
