Une tôle 15 pré-emboutie recouvre ce longeron 13 et fait partie d'un côté de caisse qui recouvre le côté extérieur du véhicule. La tôle 15 en question est formée d'un seul tenant et s'étend jusqu'au toit du véhicule. En l'occurrence dans la figure 1 seule la partie inférieure de cette pièce est représentée, à savoir la partie correspondant au bas de caisse 2. L'assemblage de cette tôle 15 au longeron 13 est réalisée au niveau des ailes latérales 9, 10, 1 1 , 12 des profilés 5 et 7. La liaison avec les ailes latérales supérieures 9, 1 1 étant une liaison directe et celle avec les ailes latérales inférieures 10, 12 étant réalisée avec un profilé métallique longitudinal auxiliaire 17. Ce profilé 17 s'étend parallèlement entre la portion inférieure 19 du côté de caisse 15 et le profilé extérieur 5 du longeron 13, sur une distance transversale prédéterminée. Il constitue en quelque sorte une extension longitudinale de la portion inférieure 19 du côté de caisse 15 qui délimite avec le profilé extérieur du longeron 13 un corps creux 21 non nécessairement étanche. Ce profilé longitudinal 17 peut présenter différentes formes, toutefois pour des raisons d'ordre esthétique, notamment pour masquer le longeron 13, il est généralement formé par une pièce en forme de U renversé. Selon le mode de réalisation préféré présenté sur la figure 1 , une extrémité de ce profilé 17 en U présente un bord longitudinal intérieur 23 et l'autre extrémité un bord longitudinal extérieur 25. Ces deux bords 23, 25 forment ainsi des ailes qui permettent de relier le profilé longitudinal auxiliaire 17 respectivement à une portion adjacente 27 de la portion inférieure 19 du côté de caisse 15 et au bord inférieur 29 du longeron 13, en l'occurrence de son profilé extérieur 5. Comme il est visible sur la figure 1 , il résulte que l'orientation de cette pièce 17 en forme de U se traduit par la mise en place à proximité du bord longitudinal extérieur 25 de cette pièce d'un renforcement 31 qui tient lieu de cuvette lorsque de l'eau pénètre dans le corps creux 21 . This profile 17 s' extends parallel between the lower portion 19 of the body side 15 and the outer profile 5 of the spar 13, a predetermined transverse distance. It constitutes in a way a longitudinal extension of the lower portion 19 of the body side 15 which delimits with the outer profile of the spar 13 a hollow body 21 not necessarily sealed. This longitudinal profile 17 may have different shapes, however for reasons of aesthetic order, especially to hide the spar 13, it is generally formed by an inverted U-shaped part. According to the preferred embodiment shown in FIG. 1, one end of this U-shaped section 17 has an inner longitudinal edge 23 and the other end an outer longitudinal edge 25. These two edges 23, 25 form and wings that connect the auxiliary longitudinal section 17 respectively to an adjacent portion 27 of the lower portion 19 of the body side 15 and the lower edge 29 of the spar 13, in this case its outer profile 5. As it is visible in Figure 1, it follows that the orientation of the U-shaped piece 17 is reflected by the establishment in the vicinity of the outer longitudinal edge 25 of this piece of a reinforcement 31 which takes the place of bowl when the l water enters the hollow body 21.

Aussi pour éviter ce problème, le bord longitudinal extérieur 25 du profilé 17 en U est en fait fixé au bord longitudinal inférieur 33 de la portion adjacente 27 du côté de caisse 15 par une combinaison de collage et clinchage. Cet assemblage est réalisé dans la portion où les deux bords 25, 33 sont superposés. Il consiste ainsi dans un premier temps à coller les deux bords 25, 33 et ensuite à les fixer par points de clinchage. Il est d'autant plus facile à mettre en œuvre que les points de clinchage sont réalisés de préférence tous les 100mm afin d'assurer une bonne tenue des bords superposés 25, 33. Il est à noter par ailleurs que la paroi de fond 35 du U du profilé longitudinal 17 présente des orifices 37 sur une partie au moins de sa longueur mais ces orifices 37 n'ont pas un rôle d'évacuation d'eau, ils servent en effet uniquement à faciliter l'étape de cataphorèse du bas de caisse 2 du véhicule et ils sont ensuite rebouchés. Pour protéger la surface inférieure de la structure de bas de caisse 2 du véhicule une couche anti-gravillonnage est également de préférence appliquée par défaut.
