- a hinge is comprised of two metal sheets which have screw holes thereon and are called leaf. There are a certain number of bearings on these leaves placed with intervals. The bearings on this leaf enter between the bearings on the other leaf, and a pin called shaft (a cylindrical pin which attaches the hinge covers to each other and enables opening and closing) connects two leaves by means of passing through all these bearings.
