Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the technical field of the protective helmets. More in particular, the present disclosure relates to cheek pads for protective helmet.
  • the protective helmet can be particularly suitable for sport and dynamic activities such as motorcycling, skiing, horse riding, bicycle, motorcycling, American football and similar sports wherein the use of a protective helmet is required.
  • a known helmet to protect from impact includes a cap conventionally formed by an outer shell made of stiff material and an inner layer made of polystyrene.
  • the outer shell made of stiff plastic material of the cap has mainly anti-penetrating function, whereas the polystyrene layer has mainly the function of absorbing energy.
  • the helmet is further equipped with a so-called soft inner portion intended to provide a comfort sensation to the user and so-called cheek pads, placed at the cheeks. Even the cheek pads have a comfort function and they are intended to fill-up the empty space existing between the inner layer made of polystyrene and a user face.
  • the cheek pads are a pair of pads with suitable shape intended to be placed at the right and left side of a user face.
  • Such cheek pads are equipped with hooking elements for a removable connection, and a tape or belt element fixed to a surface portion of the cheek pad and accessible from the bottom by a user to allow the helmet removal.
  • the tape element is fixed on a lower edge of the cheek pad.
  • each spatial reference such as inner, outer, right, left, above, below is to be meant with respect to the head of a user when he/she wears the helmet. It follows that, for example, an inner side of the helmet is a helmet side facing the user head, and an outer side of the helmet is a helmet side facing an opposite outer area with respect the user head; or an area above the helmet is to be meant an area which, when the helmet is worn, is above the user head, a helmet lower area is an area which is below the helmet when it is worn.
  • the author of the present disclosure has admitted that the fixing area of the tape element, and thus the relative positioning with respect to the cheek pad can influence the detachment of the cheek pads, and in particular the detachment of the removable hooking elements with respect to a remaining portion of the helmet.
  • the author of the present disclosure has admitted that the fixing on the lower edge can prevent the cheek pads from being removed in an adequate and quick way.
  • a technical problem underlying the present disclosure lies in the fact of making available a helmet allowing to overcome at least partially the above- described drawback and/or to provide some advantages.
  • a helmet cheek pad is described.
  • an article is meant comprising a pad member the shape and function thereof is available for a person skilled in the art.
  • the pad member can be associated to a panel element or frame with structural and supporting function.
  • the cheek pad includes at least a removable coupling element of a removable coupling or fixing device, that is an element of a device capable of obtaining a removable fixing of the cheek pad with respect to a remaining portion of the helmet.
  • the removable coupling element can be fixed in removable way to a coupling counter-element. It is a fixing device which allows to remove the connection by traction, for example by applying a manual force, exerted on the pad member, such as for example a snap button, or similar coupling element.
  • the cheek pad further includes a gripping element, preferably shaped like a tape, belt or other gripping system, accessible from the bottom of the helmet, by a user. More in particular, the gripping element includes a gripping portion intended to be grasped by the user, and projecting towards a lower area of the helmet. The gripping element is so that by pulling the gripping portion in an opposite direction with respect to the fixing area or removable coupling, the pad member can be detached with respect to a remaining portion of the helmet.
  • a gripping element preferably shaped like a tape, belt or other gripping system, accessible from the bottom of the helmet, by a user.
  • the gripping element is fixed to the pad member in an area of the surface of the pad member and/or of the frame which is opposite to the gripping portion with respect to the removable fixing device, that is opposite to the area where the gripping element is grasped.
  • the cheek pad includes, on a surface of the pad member and/or of the frame, a permanent fixing area between the gripping element and the pad member and such permanent fixing area is on the opposite side of the removable coupling device with respect to the side therefrom the gripping element emerges or outgoes with respect to the helmet.
  • the removable removal device on said surface of the pad member and/or on the frame, is interposed between the removable fixing area and the gripping portion of the gripping element. Said with other words, the gripping portion and the area for fixing or anchoring the gripping element to the pad and/or frame are arranged opposite or on opposite sides with respect to the coupling element of the removable coupling device.
  • the permanent fixing area is above with respect to the removable coupling device and the gripping portion is below with respect to the removable coupling device.
  • the gripping element is fixed preferably to the pad in the upper area, above with respect to the removable coupling element.
  • Such configuration allows an improved removal of the cheek pad from the helmet.
  • an expulsion of pad member with respect to the helmet is made easier, in an area comprised between the gripping area and the removable fixing area, and consequently a detachment of the removable coupling device.
  • the removable coupling or fixing device for example is a snap button, a Velcro fixing system or similar removable fixing.
  • the gripping element is pulled downwards.
  • the gripping element is a lace, tape, band, or similar loop-closed element, and which can be grasped easily by a user.
  • the pad member, the panel element or frame form a two-layered structure.
  • the coupling element of the removable coupling device is fixed on the panel element or frame.
  • the gripping element preferably the tape-shaped element, is interposed between the two layers, so that the coupling element of the removable coupling device is superimposed on the underneath gripping element.
  • FIG. 1 shows a front axonometric view of a helmet according to an embodiment of the present disclosure
  • figure 2 shows a front view of a helmet according to the embodiment of figure 1 , partially sectioned;
  • FIG. 3 shows a view from a first side (flank) of a detail of a cheek pad according to the present disclosure
  • FIG. 4 shows a view from a second side (front) of a detail of a cheek pad according to the present disclosure
  • FIG. 5 shows a view from a third side (from the bottom) of a detail of a cheek pad according to the present disclosure
  • figure 6 shows a front view of a helmet according to the embodiment of figure 1 , partially sectioned, and in a phase for removing the cheek pad.
  • a helmet according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is designated.
  • the helmet 10 includes a body of the helmet 12, for example including an outer shell 16, an inner layer made of polystyrene 18 and a soft inner portion for helmet (not visible/represented in the drawings).
  • the structure of the body of the helmet 12 is of known type and within the comprehension of a person skilled in the art and then it will not further described hereinafter.
  • the helmet 10 further includes a pair of cheek pads 20. It is further to be noted that hereinafter in the present description one single cheek pad will be referred to for sake of brevity, being understood that the description can be valid also to the other cheek pad.
  • one or each cheek pad 20 includes a pad member 22, made of generally soft material, such as for example made of sponge coated with a fabric suitable for the contact to a user face, such as for example a so-called comfort fabric.
  • the cheek pad 20 also includes a panel element 23, or a frame, placed on a surface of the pad member, for example the outer surface facing the body of the helmet 12.
  • the panel element 23 is made of a plastic soft material which can be easily be sewn and which can be fixed, for example by seams, to the pad member 22.
  • the panel element 23 acts as slight support and sustaining structure for functional elements fixed to the pad member 22, as described hereinafter.
  • the cheek pad 20 further includes one or more removable coupling elements 25 of a respective removable coupling device, apt to be coupled in removable way to a counter-element of the removable coupling device, in the case the removable coupling device is a snap button of known type.
  • the coupling element 25 is fixed to the panel element 23.
  • the cheek pad 20 further includes a gripping element 27, that is a member apt to be grasped by the user.
  • the gripping element 27 is a loop-closed tape and it has ends joined and fixed to the pad member 22 and/or to the panel element 23 at a stable fixing or permanent fixing area 28.
  • the loop-closed tape forms a ring projecting from below from the helmet. Such projecting area defines a gripping area for the gripping element, or so-called gripping portion 30.
  • the stable fixing or permanent fixing area 28 is a seam, between the ends of the gripping element and the panel element 23, and preferably even the pad member 22. It follows that by pulling the gripping element downwards by means of the stable fixing area/seam 28 even the panel element 23 and the pad member 22 are moved.
  • the gripping element 30 preferably is interposed between the pad member 22 and the panel element 23 and fixed to the latter.
  • the gripping element 27 is fixed to the panel element 23 and then to the pad member 22 in an upper area of the pad, above the removable coupling device. Such area is substantially opposite or opposed to the gripping portion 30, so that the coupling element 25 of the removable coupling device is in the middle or interposed between the gripping portion 30 and the permanent fixing area.
