Description

The invention relates to a device for producing security paper with at least two endless window security elements visible on opposite sides of the security paper.

Security papers or documents of value are often provided with authenticity features, such as watermarks, embedded security threads and the like, which allow the authenticity of the security paper or document of value to be checked and which at the same time serve as protection against unauthorized reproduction.

In the past, authenticity features that can only be introduced into the security paper during production, such as watermarks, chemically reacting additives, mottled fibers or security threads fully or partially embedded in the security paper, have proven successful. Security threads that are neither completely applied to a surface of a security paper nor completely embedded in the security paper are referred to as window security threads. These are partially embedded in the security paper in such a way that they are only visible in certain window areas on one or both opposite surfaces of the security paper.

From the document WO 2005/052249 A1 a method for producing a security paper is known. A security thread is embedded between two layers of paper in a paper machine with cylinder mold. The cylinder mold has bumps for forming windows in a paper layer, so that the security thread is exposed on one side of the security paper in the region of the bumps.

Proceeding from this, the invention is based on the object of specifying a device for producing a security paper of the type mentioned at the outset.

In a method for producing security paper with at least two endless window security elements visible on opposite sides of the security paper, it is provided that
  • a first paper web is formed in a first paper layer generating device and a first endless security element is introduced into the first paper web as a window security element during sheet formation,
  • a second paper web is produced in a second paper layer producing device,
  • the second paper web is brought together and firmly connected to the first paper web in such a way that the first endless security element is freely accessible in the window areas of the first paper web,
  • when the paper webs are brought together, a second endless security element is embedded between the first and second paper webs, and
  • Paper fibers are removed from the second paper web while it is still wet by means of a suction and/or flushing device, so that the second endless security element is freely accessible in window areas of the second paper web.

For the purposes of the invention, the term "security paper" refers to the unprinted paper, which is usually in a quasi-continuous form and is processed further at a later point in time. The security papers are used in particular to produce documents of value. A document that is ready for its intended use is referred to as a “document of value”. Value documents within the meaning of the present invention are in particular banknotes, shares, bonds, certificates, vouchers, checks, high-quality admission tickets, but also other papers at risk of forgery, such as passports and other identification documents, as well as product security elements such as labels, seals, packaging and the like. In the following, the simplified designation "security paper" or "document of value" includes all such documents and product security measures.

The security paper is preferably designed in multiple layers and comprises at least one layer of paper. The further layer or further layers can likewise be formed from paper, but also from other materials, for example plastic foils. The paper or a paper layer particularly preferably comprises cotton fibers such as are used for banknotes, for example.

In terms of the invention, a paper layer generating device is a device, in particular a sheet forming unit, for generating a paper web. The paper layer producing device can be a rotary mold machine, in particular a countercurrent rotary mold machine, a direct current rotary mold machine or a double rotary mold machine. Furthermore, a paper layer generating device can be a fourdrinier wire machine. The paper web discharged from the paper sheet forming device is preferred output as continuous paper. Alternatively, a sheet of paper could be output. Furthermore, the paper layer producing device can comprise a nozzle for discharging a pulp mass onto a wire unit, for example cylinder wire or fourdrinier wire, whereby a paper web is produced.

The endless security elements of the present invention can be formed in particular by security threads or wide security bands. While security threads have a width of less than 4 mm, usually less than 2 mm and typically around 1 mm, endless security elements with a width of 4 mm or more are referred to as security bands in the context of this description. The security bands can in particular have a width of 4 mm to 20 mm, sometimes even up to 30 mm. Even if the invention is explained below primarily using the example of narrow security threads, it is always understood that the security elements can also be formed by wide security bands. The embedding of wide security bands in papermaking is, for example, in the publication EPO 0625 431 described.

The endless security element can be, for example, a security element with a color shift effect, with a diffraction structure such as a hologram, with a dynamic effect, with a metallization that may be partially left open, and/or with a printed image.

The above-mentioned window areas of the second paper web are created precisely by the removal of the paper fibers from the second paper web. In an advantageous variant of the invention, the paper fibers are removed from the second paper web before it is brought together with the first paper web. The paper fibers are advantageously removed in register with the embedding position of the second endless security element.

For the first and second endless security element, it is advantageous to use security elements with different optical appearances, for example a security element with a color shift effect, with a diffraction structure such as a hologram, with a dynamic effect, with a metallization that may be partially omitted, or with a printed image. If more than two endless security elements are introduced, all of the security elements introduced preferably have a different optical appearance.

The second endless security element is advantageously embedded with an offset to the first endless security element that is more than twice the width of the widest embedded security element. In this way, the overall thickness of the security paper is not excessively increased by embedding the security elements. The endless security elements can also be distributed uniformly over the security element, for example by arranging the security elements symmetrically to the center line of the separated security paper. Uniform distribution of the security elements makes it possible to achieve a particularly uniform paper thickness and particularly good flatness of the security paper or of the document of value produced therefrom.

In other configurations, especially with security papers that are thicker anyway, such as those used for high-quality admission tickets, the endless security elements can also be arranged one above the other without offset. As a result, additional visual effects can be realized in the security paper, which are not possible or not readily possible with a security element alone. In this case, three or more endless security elements can also be introduced into the security paper, for example by connecting a plurality or further second paper webs to the first paper web.

The first paper web can be provided with at least one additional security feature, which is advantageously in register with the window areas of the first paper web. Alternatively or additionally, the second paper web can be provided with at least one further security feature, which is advantageously in register with the window areas of the second paper web. For example, watermarks, cutouts or imprinted elements can be considered as further security features.

In an advantageous development of the method, it is provided that the window areas of the first and second paper web are designed differently, in particular have different shapes and/or sizes.

It goes without saying that more than one second paper web can also be produced in the manner described and connected to the first paper web or the other second paper webs. For example, in the above-mentioned method, a third paper web can also be produced in another paper layer generating device, and the third paper web can be brought together with the first and second paper web and firmly connected, with a third endless security element being embedded between the second and third paper web when the paper webs are brought together becomes. Paper fibers can be removed from the third paper web while it is still wet by means of a suction and/or flushing device, so that the second and third endless security elements are freely accessible in window areas of the third paper web.

  • a first paper layer generating device for forming a first paper web and for introducing a first endless security element as a window security element into the first paper web during sheet formation,
  • a second paper layer generating device for generating a second paper web,
  • a removal screen, which can also be understood as a removal felt or removal belt, for bringing together and firmly connecting the second paper web to the first paper web,
  • a device for feeding a second endless security element between the first and second paper webs when the paper webs are brought together, and
  • a suction device for removing paper fibers from the second paper web while it is still wet.

In the invention, the suction device has an endless belt with at least one recess, which is stretched over at least two position-adjustable guide rollers. The suction device preferably also contains a suction roller or a suction box for generating a negative pressure for sucking off paper fibers through the at least one recess of the endless belt. The at least one recess of the endless belt corresponds to the window areas to be produced in the second paper web.

The flushing device has an outlet device. The outlet device is designed to dispense a liquid and is directed towards the second paper web. Paper fibers are flushed away in a targeted manner via the directed dispensing of the liquid through openings, so that at least one recess is produced in the second paper web. On the side of the second paper web opposite the outlet device, there is a receptacle for receiving the paper fibers that have been flushed away. The outlet device can be designed to act geometrically on the second paper web in the form of the recess. Furthermore, a bearing surface, which is arranged on the side of the second paper web opposite the outlet device, can have openings. The openings are designed to correspond to the recess, so that the recess is produced when the second paper web is acted upon over a large area. The supporting surface is preferably an endless belt. The support surface can be designed as an endless belt.

The endless band can be formed from a mesh-like fabric, for example made of plastic, copper or bronze, or can consist of a material that has a closed surface except for the at least one recess.

Instead of a suction box, the suction device can also have a suction roller or a vacuum tube. To support the suction, at least one spray tube can be arranged on the side of the second paper web opposite the suction device, which sprays a liquid onto the second paper web in order to convey the fibrous material to be suctioned off through the at least one recess in the endless belt into the suction roller or the suction box. To clean the endless belt, the suction device can also contain a screen conditioning system with cleaning spray pipes and suction tubes.

The suction and/or flushing device is advantageously arranged in the device between the second paper layer generating device and the merging position of the paper webs, so that the paper fibers can be removed from the second paper web before merging with the first paper web and embedding the second endless security element.

A multi-ply security paper or document of value is also shown
  • a first paper layer with a grammage of 60 g/m 2 or more, in particular from 60 g/m 2 to 80 g/m 2 and a second paper ply firmly connected to the first paper ply with a grammage of 45 g/m 2 or less, in particular from 10 to 45 g/m 2 ,
  • a first endless window security element embedded in the first paper ply and freely accessible in window areas of the first paper ply, and
  • a second endless window security element embedded between the first and second paper plies and freely accessible in window areas of the second paper ply,
  • so that the first and second endless window security elements are visible on opposite sides of the security paper in the window areas of the first and second paper plies, respectively.

In an advantageous embodiment it is provided that the first and second endless security element have different optical appearances. Advantageously, the first and second endless security element are embedded with an offset that is more than twice the width of the widest embedded security element. Alternatively, the endless security elements can also be arranged one above the other without offset.

The first and/or second layer of paper expediently has at least one further security feature which is advantageously in register with the window areas of the respective paper web.

The invention will now be explained using the example of the production of security paper for banknotes with two opposing security threads. figure 1 shows a schematic of a paper machine 10 with a first paper layer producing device, in the present example a cylinder mold paper machine 12 and a second paper layer producing device 14, preferably a second cylinder mold machine.

In a cylinder mold paper machine 12, a paper web 20 is formed in a manner known per se on a cylinder mold 18, with a first endless security thread 22 being embedded in the paper web 20 as a window security thread during sheet formation. For this purpose, the security thread 22 runs onto humps 26 of the cylinder mold 18 before it dips into the paper pulp 24 of the paper machine. In the case of the first paper web 20 produced in this way, the security thread 22 is basically in an inner plane of the paper, although no paper fibers from the paper mass 24 are deposited on the contact surfaces of the security thread 22 with the humps 26, so that the paper web 20 has recessed window areas there, in which the security thread 22 is freely accessible. The first paper web has, for example, a grammage of 60 to 80 g/m 2 .

In parallel with this, a second, initially homogeneous paper web 30 is produced in the second paper layer production device 14 by paper pulp being sprayed onto the surface of a cylinder mold 44 with a headbox nozzle 42 . The paper layer produced with the second paper layer producing device 14 is very thin and has, for example, a grammage of only 10 to 25 g/m 2 . The second paper web 30 is removed from the cylinder mold 44 by means of a removal felt 16 and guided to the first paper machine 12, where it is connected to the first paper web 20 in the area of the pressure roller 36.

How out 1 As can be seen, the two paper webs 20, 30 are brought together in such a way that the second paper web 30 comes to rest on the surface of the first paper web 20 opposite the recessed window areas. The security thread 22 embedded in the first paper web 20 is therefore visible and freely accessible in the recessed window areas of the first paper web 20 even after the two paper webs 20, 30 have been brought together and connected.

When the paper webs 20, 30 are brought together, a second endless security element 32 is also unwound from a spool 34 and embedded between the first 20 and second paper web 30 when the two paper webs 20, 30 are connected. In order not to increase the thickness of the security paper excessively, the second endless security element 32 is generally not placed at the position of the first endless security element 22, but with a predetermined offset Δ (see Fig 3 ) to the first security element 22 embedded.

Furthermore, a suction device 50 is arranged between the second paper layer generating device 14 and the pressure roller 36, which removes 32 paper fibers from the second paper web 30 in the still wet state in register with the embedding position of the second endless security element. The areas of removed paper fibers form window areas in the second paper web 30, in which the second endless security element 32 is visible and freely accessible after it has been embedded between the two paper webs 20, 30.

The paper webs 38 connected to one another are then fed to further processing stations, such as calenders, sizing and the like.

In addition to the suction device 50, a flushing device 58 for removing paper fibers can be provided.

In the 2 The suction device 50 shown in more detail comprises an endless belt 52 of a screen-like fabric which is mechanically stretched taut by a series of guide rollers 54 which can be adjusted in position. The endless belt 52 has one or more cutouts which correspond in shape and size to the window areas to be produced in the second paper web 30 . A slotted suction box 56 is arranged inside the endless belt 52, with which a vacuum is generated on the endless belt 52 and paper fibers can thereby be sucked out of the second paper web through the gaps in the belt 52 and the slot of the suction box 56.

Instead of a suction box 56, a suction roller or a vacuum tube can also be used. In order to clean the belt 52, the suction device 50 can contain a screen conditioning system, not shown in the figure, with cleaning spray pipes and suction tubes.

A multi-ply security paper 60, as with the paper machine 1 can be produced is in the Figures 3 and 4 shown in cropped form. while showing 3(a) a plan view of the top 62 and 3(b) a top view of the underside 64 of the security paper 60. The side with the first paper ply 70 resulting from the first paper web 20 is referred to as the upper side, and the side with the second paper ply 80 resulting from the second paper web 30 is referred to as the underside of the security paper. Elements that are embedded or on the respective opposite side of the security paper are drawn in with dashed lines for clarification. figure 4 shows a section through the security paper 60 along the 3(a) shown line IV-IV, which runs approximately half in the area of the first and second security thread.

The security paper 60 contains a first, thicker paper layer 70 with a grammage of 60 to 80 g/m 2 , inside which a first window security thread 72 is embedded. The first paper ply has window areas 74 in which the first security thread 72 is visible from the top 62 of the security paper 60 and is freely accessible. The first paper ply 70 is firmly connected to a second, thinner paper ply 80, which only has a grammage of 10 to 45 g/m 2 . A second window security thread 82 is embedded between the first and second paper layers 70 , 80 . The second paper ply 80 has window areas 84 in which the second security thread 82 is visible and freely accessible from the underside 64 of the security paper 60 . The security threads 72 and 82 are not accessible from the respectively opposite side 64 or 62 of the security paper and are also not visible in incident light.

The visual impression of the security threads in transmitted light can be chosen as desired. In an advantageous embodiment, the security threads each have a metallic coating, for example, into which small, pattern-shaped recesses, for example in the form of microwriting, are introduced. If these security threads are embedded in security paper that is at least partially translucent, they appear in transmitted light as dark stripes with light gaps. If a security thread is not to be visible in transmitted light, the opposite surface of the security paper can be provided with an opaque coating.

The two security threads 72, 82 advantageously have a different visual appearance, for example the security thread 72 has a color shift effect and the security thread 82 has a dynamic effect.

In the security paper 60, the two security threads 72, 82 are advantageously offset by an offset Δ (in 3(b) shown) separated from each other that is more than twice the width of the widest of the embedded security threads. While 3 shows an asymmetrical distribution of the security threads 72, 82, the security threads can also be arranged symmetrically to the center line of the security paper 60, so that when the security paper is turned over, a security thread is visible at the same point on the security paper.

As in figure 3 indicated, the window areas 74, 84 on the front and back 62, 64 of the security paper can have different shapes and sizes.

The first paper ply 70 can be provided with at least one additional security feature 76 associated with the window security thread 72, which is preferably in register with the window areas 74 of the first paper web. In the same way, the second paper ply 80 can be provided with at least one further security feature 86 assigned to the window security thread 82, which is preferably in register with the window areas 84 of the second paper web. The associated security features 76, 86 can be, for example, watermarks, gaps in the first or second paper layer, or printed elements.
