Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method for supplying diesel fuel to a motor vehicle and to a feed system implementing said method.
  • Some motor vehicles are equipped with a diesel fuel supply system comprising a fuel tank, a first so-called low pressure pump drawing fuel into the tank to supply it to a second so-called high pressure pump.
  • the high pressure pump feeds injectors of the internal combustion engine.
  • a return branch is planned to collect the fuel that has arrived in excess of the circuit and bring it back to the tank.
  • the first pump is equipped with a power supply circuit which receives a proportional setpoint and which rotates the first pump at a variable speed.
  • the set point is calculated by a control unit to regulate the fuel pressure upstream of the second pump at a constant level.
  • the second pump is generally driven directly by the motor via a mechanical link. Its lubrication is ensured by the circulation of diesel.
  • the power supply of the first pump is cut off as soon as the stop command of the vehicle is given.
  • the heat engine stops gradually, continuing to turn inertia during a delay of the order of 1 to 2 seconds.
  • the first pump stops very rapidly and the pressure in the circuit upstream of the second pump decreases more rapidly than the motor stops, for example within one second. From this moment, the second pump is no longer fueled and is no longer lubricated, while it continues to be driven by the engine. There is therefore a risk of premature wear of the second pump.
  • the invention therefore aims to provide a method and a diesel fuel supply system which reduces the risk of wear of the high pressure pump.
  • the subject of the invention is a method of controlling a diesel fuel supply system on a motor vehicle, the system comprising a fuel tank, a first so-called low pressure pump drawing fuel in the reservoir for supplying it to a second so-called high-pressure pump, a method according to which the first pump is piloted to regulate the quantity of fuel supplied according to the needs of the second pump, characterized in that the vehicle is geolocated and the first pump at a maximum pressure level if the vehicle is in an area among predetermined predetermined stopping areas.
  • the operation of the pump at its maximum level makes it possible to provide the highest possible pressure.
  • the pressure in the circuit decreases. Since the starting level is higher, a pressure level is maintained allowing the second pump to be lubricated for a longer period.
  • the operating time of the second pump with insufficient lubrication is reduced, which extends the life of the latter.
  • the position of the stops of a vehicle is usually repetitive, when the main user goes for example from his home to his work or his current activity, on usual places of race or to visit relatives. By memorizing these places, the vehicle can anticipate stopping in order to increase the life of the second pump without major impact on the power consumption.
  • the probable stopping areas are acquired by learning.
  • the current position is stored and compared to the probable stopping areas already stored. If stops in this same position are frequently made, the vehicle then considers that this position corresponds to a probable stopping area and adds it. Similarly, if no or few stops are made for a long time in a probable stopping area already registered, said area is deleted.
  • a probable stopping area is a disk defined by the coordinates of a center and a radius around this center. A deviation from the stored center position is tolerated to consider the vehicle to be in the likely stopping area.
  • the radius has for example a value of a few tens of meters.
  • the learning is achieved by acquiring the positions during the stopping of the vehicle and a stopping zone is added to the list of stopping zones if a predetermined number of stops take place in a perimeter. of predetermined radius.
  • the predetermined radius may be different from that which defines the stopping areas. For example, the center of gravity of the recorded and perimeter stopping positions is used to define the center of the probable stopping area.
  • the maximum pressure level is applied only for a predetermined duration. If after entering the probable stopping zone, and after the lapse of said predetermined time the vehicle has not been stopped, it is considered that the probability of stopping has become very low and it is allowed again the optimization of the pressure level in order to reduce the electrical consumption of the vehicle.
  • the invention also relates to a system for supplying fuel to a motor vehicle, the system comprising a fuel tank, a first so-called low-pressure pump taking fuel from the tank to supply it to a second so-called high-pressure pump, and a control unit controlling the first pump to regulate the quantity of fuel supplied by the first pump as a function of the needs of the second pump, characterized in that it comprises geolocation means for determining and supplying the position of the vehicle to the control unit, the control unit being configured to implement the method as described above.
  • the control unit can be dedicated to this application or perform other independent functions for the operation of the vehicle.
  • the invention also relates to a motor vehicle, characterized in that it comprises a fuel supply system as described above.
  • FIG 1 is a schematic view of a fuel supply system according to an embodiment of the invention.
  • An on-board fuel supply system on a motor vehicle with a diesel-type internal combustion engine conventionally comprises a diesel fuel type tank 3, a first so-called low pressure pump 1 collecting fuel in the tank 3 to supply it to a second so-called high pressure pump 2 via a first pipe 5 and a diesel filter 50.
  • the second pump 2 supplies injectors 4 of the internal combustion engine. Its lubrication is ensured by the circulation of diesel.
  • the second pump 2 is driven directly by the motor via a mechanical connection, not shown.
  • a second pipe 6 is provided to collect the excess fuel arrived at the second pump 2, a common rail 7 or injectors 4 and bring it back to the tank 3.
  • the system further comprises a control unit 8 driving the first pump 1 to rotate it at a variable speed to regulate the amount of fuel supplied by the first pump 1 according to the needs of the second pump 2.
  • the system comprises a power circuit 9 receiving a signal C from the control unit 8 and a power supply source S, and supplying a driving power P to the first pump 1.
  • the power supply source S is current continued.
  • the signal C of the control unit 8 is for example a pulse width modulated signal. It could also be a signal varying between 0 and 10 V or between 4 and 20 mA.
  • the power circuit 9 supplies the driving power P in the form of modulated width pulses.
  • the system further comprises a pressure sensor 51 between the diesel fuel filter 50 and the second pump 2 in order to measure the diesel fuel pressure and to provide the measurement to the control unit 8.
  • the control unit 8 is configured to regulate the diesel fuel pressure measured at a set point. The setpoint is determined at a constant level.
  • the power source S is connected to a battery 10 via a relay 11. As soon as the stop command of the vehicle is given, the relay 11 opens and the power supply S of the first pump 1 is off. At the same time, no more injector opening command 4 is sent, which causes the engine to stop.
  • the system comprises geolocation means 12 for determining and supplying the position of the vehicle to the control unit 8.
  • the geolocation means 12 use, for example, the GPS system.
  • the control unit 8 includes a list of probable stopping areas and compares the current position G provided by the geolocation means 12 with the different probable stopping areas of the list. If the control unit 8 determines that the current position G is in at least one of the areas of the list, it controls the first pump 1 at a maximum pressure level instead of the control command. It maintains control at a maximum pressure level for a predetermined time after which it returns to the control level determined by the pressure regulation upstream of the second pump 2.
  • the probable stopping areas are stored, for example, with the coordinates of a center and a radius around this center, so as to define the area as being a disc having this center and this radius.
  • the probable stopping areas are acquired by learning.
  • learning is achieved by acquiring positions when stopping the vehicle.
  • a stopping zone is added to the list of stopping zones if a predetermined number of stops have taken place in the same perimeter of predetermined radius. It goes without saying that tests are done to avoid defining multiple areas that overlap. Similarly, other tests are performed to "forget" areas in which no stop would have taken place for a predetermined period, for example of several weeks or several months.
  • the control unit 8 receives the position information G by the geolocation means 12, and compares this position with each zone of the list of probable stopping areas. If the current position G does not correspond to any zone, the control unit 8 applies the process of regulating the pressure upstream of the second pump 2 by acting on the control signal C sent to the power circuit 9. If the position corresponds to at least one of the zones, the control unit 8 stores the moment at which this correspondence is found for the first time. It applies a control command C of the power circuit 9 so that the pump rotates at its maximum speed. The position of the vehicle is always monitored and the pressure regulation is resumed if the vehicle leaves the probable stopping area. Similarly, the regulation is resumed if a predetermined time has elapsed since the moment previously stored.
  • the relay 12 opens and the supply of the control circuit 9 and the first pump 1 is cut off.
  • the stopping of the first pump occurs at around 1.25 seconds after the loss of power supply, whereas if the shutdown occurs outside a probable stopping zone, stopping the first pump 1 occurs in about 1s.
  • the lubrication of the second pump is thus maintained for 0.25s additional, which reduces its wear.
  • the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described by way of example. Variations can be found on how to memorize and define the probable stopping areas by calculating another distance, or by drawing another predetermined zone shape or according to the actual stopping points.
