Dabei erfolgt zunächst ein erster Klebstoffauftrag auf den Teil des Rückens, an den der erste Abschnitt des Hinterklebematerials angebracht werden soll. Nach Anbringen dieses ersten Abschnitts an den mit Klebstoff versehenen Teil des Rückens wird der restliche Teil des Rückens sowie ein Überlappungsbereich des bereits an den Rücken angebrachten Abschnitts des Hinterklebematerials mit Klebstoff versehen, bevor der zweite Abschnitt des Hinterklebematerials an den Rücken des Buchblocks und im Überlappungsbereich an den ersten Abschnitt des Hinterklebematerials angebracht wird. Method according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that a first portion (3) of the backlining material (23) is applied by the first conveying means (60) and a second portion (5) of the backlining material (43) is applied by the second conveying means (64) to the spine (2) of the book block (1) provided with the adhesive (8), at least one further portion (4) of the backlining material (33) being applied by the first conveying means (60), together with the first portion (3) and overlapping the first portion (3), and/or one further portion (6) of the backlining material (38) being applied by the second conveying means (64), together with the second portion (5) and overlapping the second portion (5), to the spine (2) of the book block (1) between the first portion (3) and the second portion (5), each portion (5, 6) of the backlining material (43, 38) to be applied subsequently to the spine (2) of the book block (1) being applied in such a manner that it overlaps a portion (3, 4) already applied previously to the spine (2) of the book block (1) and the respective portions (3, 4, 5, 6) applied to the spine (2) of the book block (1) covering it completely over its length (9).
  4. Method according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the conveying means (60, 64) each have at least one suction element (63, 67) with a first segment (68) and with at least one second segment (74), the first portion (3) of the backlining material (23) being applied by the first segment (68) of the first suction element (63) and the second portion (5) of the backlining material (43) being applied by the first segment (68) of the second suction element (67) to the spine (2) of the book block (1), while no further portion (4, 6) of the backlining material (33, 38) is applied to the spine (2) of the book block (1) by the respective at least one second segment (74) of the suction elements (63, 67), and the at least one second segment (74) being offset or becoming offset relative to the first segment (68) in such a manner that a contact surface (69) of the first segment (68) contacts the spine (2) of the book block (1), while a contact surface (75) of the at least one second segment (74) is disposed at a distance from the spine (2) of the book block (1).
  5. Method according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the backlining material (23) for the first portion (3) and the backlining material (33) for the at least one further portion (4) are supplied to the first conveying means (60) in an overlapping manner and/or the backlining material (43) for the second portion (5) and the backlining material (38) for the at least one further portion (6) are supplied to the second conveying means (64) in an overlapping manner.
  6. Method according to one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that during or after the application of portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of a backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) to the spine (2) of a first book block (1) in the book production line (7), portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of a backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) are also applied to the spine (2) of a further book block (1), the spine (2) of the further book block (1) having a different length (9) from the spine (2) of the first book block (1) and the conveying means (60, 64) being displaced relative to one another in the conveying direction (10') or in the opposite direction to the conveying direction (10') in such a manner that, after the completion of steps 1.3 and 1.4, the first portion (3) of the backlining material (23) and the second portion (5) of the backlining material (43) or the first portion (3) and at least one further portion (4) of the backlining material (23, 33) and the second portion (5) and at least one further portion (6) of the backlining material (43, 38) completely cover the spine (2) of the further book block (1) in an overlapping manner.
  7. Device for applying portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of a backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) to the spine (2) of a book block (1), comprising a conveying device (10) for transporting the book block (1) through a book production line (7) in a conveying direction (10'), a gluing device for applying an adhesive (8) to the spine (2) of the book block (1), at least one backlining station (16, 17) with at least one supply device (20, 30; 35, 40) for the backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) and at least one cutting device (50, 55) for cutting the portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of the backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) to length according to a thickness (19) of the spine (2) of the respective book block (1) and comprising at least one conveying means designed to apply the portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of the backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) to the spine (2) of the book block (1) provided with adhesive (8), characterised in that the device is provided in sequence in the conveying direction (10') with a single gluing device (80) for applying the adhesive (8) to the spine (2) of the book block (1) over its entire length (9), a first conveying means (60) for applying a first portion (3) or a first portion (3) and at least one further portion (4) of the backlining material (23, 33) and at least one second conveying means (64) for applying at least one second portion (5) or a second portion (5) and at least one further portion (6) of the backlining material (38, 43) to the spine (2) of the book block (1) provided with adhesive (8) in an overlapping manner relative to the first portion (3) or relative to the first portion (3) and the at least one further portion (4).
  8. Device according to claim 7, characterised in that the conveying means (60, 64) each have a suction element (63, 67) with a first and with at least one second segment (68, 74) for picking up, temporarily holding and depositing a respective portion (3, 4, 5, 6) of the backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43).
  9. Device according to claim 8, characterised in that the first segment (68) has a first contact surface (69) for contacting the spine (2) of the book block (1) and the at least one second segment (74) has a second contact surface (75) for contacting the spine (2) of the book block (1), the at least one second segment (74) being displaceable relative to the first segment (68) in such a manner that the contact surface (69) of the first segment (68) contacts the spine (2) of the book block (1), while a contact surface (75) of the second segment (74) is disposed at a distance from the spine (2) of the book block (1).
  10. Device according to claim 8 or claim 9, characterised in that an actuator (83) for displacing the at least one second segment (74) relative to the first segment (68) is arranged on each suction element (63, 67).
  11. Device according to one of claims 8 to 10, characterised in that the suction element (63, 67) is arranged on the respective conveying means (60, 64) in such a manner that it can be exchanged for another suction element (63, 67) differing from the suction element (63, 67).
  12. Device according to one of claims 8 to 11, characterised in that at least one first and/or second segment (68, 74) is arranged on the respective suction element (63, 67) in such a manner that it can be exchanged for another segment (68, 74) differing from the first and/or second segment (68, 74).
  13. Device according to one of claims 7 to 12, characterised in that at least two supply devices (20, 30; 35, 40) for the backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) are arranged upstream of the first conveying means (60) and/or upstream of the second conveying means (64) and are offset relative to one another in the conveying direction (10') in such a manner that the backlining material (23) for the first portion (3) and the backlining material (33) for the at least one further portion (4) can be supplied to the first conveying means (60) in an overlapping manner and/or the backlining material (43) for the second portion (5) and the backlining material (38) for the at least one further portion (6) can be supplied to the second conveying means (64) in an overlapping manner.
  14. Device according to one of claims 7 to 13, characterised in that at least two backlining stations (16, 17) arranged one behind the other in the conveying direction (10') of the book block (1) through the book production line (7) form a joint tandem backlining station (15), each with at least one supply device (20, 30; 35, 40) for providing the portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of the backlining material (23, 33,38,43).
  15. Device according to one of claims 7 to 14, characterised in that two supply devices (20, 30; 35, 40) for the backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43) are associated with each conveying means (60, 64), wherein the respective second supply device (30; 35) can be switched in by means of a machine control unit (87) depending on the format of the book block (1) to be provided with portions (3, 4, 5, 6) of a backlining material (23, 33, 38, 43).
  16. Book production line comprising a device according to one of claims 7 to 15.
