Container, in particular a pallet container (1), which has a base (2), side walls (3a-3d) and a lid (4), which can be positioned on the side walls (3a-3d), wherein the lid (4) has provided on it a means (5) for fastening the lid (4) on at least one of the side walls (3a-3d), the at least one side wall (3a-3d) has formed in it a recess (6), with which the fastening means (5) interacts, the lid (4) has, on its inner side, a U-shaped portion (14), which, when the lid (4) has been positioned on the side walls (3a-3d), engages over merely a peripheral portion (15) of the at least one side wall (3a-3d), said peripheral portion being directed towards the lid (4), and the fastening means (5) is formed on the inner side of the U-shaped portion (14),

    in that the recess is formed by a hollow (6) and the one side wall (3a-3d) is closed in the region of the hollow (6), in that the side walls (3a-3d) are connected, and can be collapsed, along their vertical container edges (10) and, in the collapsed state, fit onto the base (2) and beneath the lid (4) to give a closed pack, the container (1) is cuboidal in its opened-out state, and in that at least two opposite side walls (3b, 3c) are each provided in their centre with a folding line (12) which is parallel to the vertical container edges (11).
