Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for disposing of a radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solution or brine. It is within the scope of the invention that the radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solution is converted into a solid or substantially into a solid.
- Radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solutions are formed in particular during the storage or disposal of radioactive waste in the soil.
- Such repositories are often former mines or salt mines.
- the contaminated salt solutions or brines must be disposed of or converted into a non-critical state. From practice, it has hitherto been known, inter alia, to dry the radioactively contaminated solutions or alkalis. This involves a disadvantageously long drying time and high costs. Furthermore, it is known to solidify the radioactively contaminated salt solutions using concrete.
- the WO 2006/082346 describes, for example, the solidification of radioactively contaminated salt solutions by a hydraulic binder based on blast furnace ash. This disadvantageous bulky products and this process is complicated and also very expensive. In contrast, the invention is the technical problem of providing a method for the disposal of radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solutions, in which the disadvantages described above can be effectively avoided.
- the invention teaches a method for the disposal of a radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solution or brine - in particular a saturated radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solution or brine - wherein the salt solution contains magnesium chloride as the main constituent and also magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride, wherein for solidifying the salt solution Dolomitkalkhydrat is added to the solution, so that a solidified product or intermediate product is formed.
- the solidified product / intermediate product can be stored or fed to the final disposal.
- a solid radioactive waste is produced in comparison with, for example, known cementing processes with a smaller increase in the volume of waste. Furthermore, additional adverse radioactive by-products - as in the known drying methods - not produced.
- the aqueous salt solution is a typical saline solution, especially in salt mines or the like.
- salt solution is here and below also shortened the term solution used.
- the fact that the salt solution contains magnesium chloride as the main constituent means in the context of the invention, in particular, that the solution contains more than 40% by weight, preferably more than 50% by weight, of magnesium chloride.
- dolomitic lime hydrate is used as a binder for solidifying the salt solution. Dolomitic lime hydrate consists predominantly of calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide.
- the radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solution treated according to the invention contains 200 to 800 g / l of magnesium chloride, 20 to 50 g / l of magnesium sulfate and 5 to 11 g / l, preferably 6 to 10 g / l of sodium chloride.
- the salt solution contains 220 to 720 g / l of magnesium chloride, 25 to 45 g / l of magnesium sulfate and 7 to 9 g / l of sodium chloride.
- the amounts are based on a temperature of 30 ° C and normal pressure.
- the dolomitic hydrated lime is added with the proviso that the salt solution contains more than 9% by weight and preferably less than 18% by weight of dolomitic lime hydrate. It is recommended that dolomitic hydrated lime be supplied with the proviso that the salt solution between 11 and 15 wt .-%, preferably between 11.5 and 14.5 wt .-% and particularly preferably between 12 and 13.5 wt .-% Contains dolomitic hydrated lime.
- the invention is based on the finding that a surprisingly small amount of dolomitic lime hydrate is sufficient for the success of the invention. This solidification products are obtained with advantageously low volume.
- a highly recommended embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the addition of the Dolomitkalkhydrats and preferably also the final solidification of the salt solution at a temperature of 30 ° C or at a temperature of about 30 ° C is performed.
- the salt solution is tempered in the addition of the dolomitic and preferably also in the further solidification, for example, tempered in a thermostatic bath.
- the salt solution or after adding the Dolomitkalkhydrats resulting suspension stirred at least during the addition of the dolomitric.
- the dolomitic hydrated lime is slowly stirred into the salt solution and in particular within 2 to 8 minutes, preferably within 3 to 7 minutes and, for example, within 5 minutes of the solution is added.
- the salt solution is preferably stirred continuously during the addition. It is within the scope of the invention that the salt solution is stirred up to 45 minutes, in particular up to 30 minutes, from the beginning of the addition of the dolomitic lime hydrate. It is also within the scope of the invention that at least immediately thereafter, the salt solution or the resulting suspension is no longer stirred.
- a preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention is characterized in that the salt solution or the suspension resulting therefrom is stirred at least once 2 to 8 hours after the addition of the dolomitic lime hydrate, preferably 3 to 6 hours after the addition of the dolomitic lime hydrate.
- One embodiment variant is characterized in that the salt solution or the suspension resulting therefrom is stirred once after 3.5 to 4.5 hours, for example after 4 hours.
- the salt solution or suspension is transferred after stirring or after the last stirring in a storable / reusable container.
- the salt solution or the suspension hardens within 20 to 30 hours after the addition of the dolomitic lime hydrate, in particular within 22 to 26 hours after the addition of the dolomitic lime hydrate. It is also within the scope of the invention that the hardened / solidified salt solution or the cured / solidified end product has only a slightly larger volume than the original one Saline. In particular, the volume of the resulting solid is only about 5% larger than the salt solution originally used.
- the sodium chloride is in the form of rock salt and saline in the saline solution.
- Rock salt consists predominantly of sodium chloride, but also contains traces of calcium sulfate and the like salts.
- the radioactively contaminated aqueous saline solution contains 5.2 to 5.6 g / l rock salt and 2 to 3 g / l of saline.
- the invention is based on the finding that a very effective and inexpensive disposal of radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solutions or brines is possible with the method according to the invention.
- the curing reaction or solidification reaction proceeds as an endothermic reaction and thus is optimally controllable.
- Other reactions for the disposal of contaminated aqueous salt solutions are disadvantageously exothermic or highly exothermic.
- a further advantage is that the solidification reaction at normal temperatures - in particular at 30 ° C - can be performed.
- the solidified / cured end product has a relatively small volume and thus can be stored or re-stored without problems or relatively easily. It should also be emphasized that the hardening or solidification of the radioactively contaminated aqueous salt solution can be realized in a relatively short period of time.
- the method according to the invention provides a rapid volume-optimized conditioning method and, moreover, with relatively low costs is feasible. Disadvantageous accompanying phenomena due to chemical waste products or the like can not be observed.
- aqueous saline solution containing 468 g / L magnesium chloride, 35.6 g / L magnesium sulfate, 5.4 g / L sodium chloride and 2.5 g / L rock salt was used.
- This aqueous salt solution was heated to 30.5 ° C. in a thermostatic bath.
- dolomitic hydrated lime was added as a binder within about 5 minutes and then continuously stirred at 125 rpm for 30 minutes.
- a first sample contained 10% by weight of dolomitic lime hydrate. After about 24 hours, the saline solution was largely solidified. Only a small amount of liquid was still recognizable as supernatant.
- a second sample contained 13% by weight of dolomitic lime hydrate. About 5 hours after stirring the binder, the sample was slurried by panning. After 24 hours, no more liquid was visible above the solidified saline solution or above the solidified mass.
