Description

The present invention relates to a watch case comprising a bayonet link.

We know by the patent CH 118.038 a watch case whose bezel is assembled to a bottom-middle by a bayonet connection comprising lugs defined by the bezel and engaged in grooves defined by the bottom-middle. Between their entry and their bottom the grooves are inclined so that once the lugs inserted into the grooves, a relative rotation of the bezel and the bottom-middle axially brings these two parts together until the lugs reach the bottom of the grooves. Leaf springs each provided with a nose lock the lugs in the bottom of the grooves.

Such an assembly allows a precise relative angular positioning of the two parts of the box that constitute the bezel and the bottom-middle and avoids the use of screw connections. However it requires the use of inserts, namely the leaf springs, to lock the lugs in the grooves.

The present invention aims to overcome this disadvantage and proposes for this purpose a watch case comprising first and second parts assembled by a bayonet connection, the bayonet connection comprising at least one lug defined by the first piece and at least one groove defined by the second piece, the groove defining a tongue and comprising a bottom and an inlet through which, during assembly of the first and second parts, the lug can be introduced into the groove parallel to a given axis, the lug being then be brought to the bottom by a relative rotation of the first and second parts about the determined axis and in a specific direction, the tongue comprising an inner face comprising a first portion, inclined, extending towards the bottom to a determined point and a second part located in the bottom, after the determined point, the first and second pieces further comprising respective rigid surfaces facing each other in the direction of the determined axis, characterized in that the second portion of the inner face of the tongue is recessed relative to a plane perpendicular to the determined axis and passing through the determined point, and in that the first and second pieces are arranged so that, during their assembly, they abut against each other in the direction of the axis determined by a contact between the rigid surfaces and that the lug is in the groove, a relative rotation of the first and second parts around the determined axis and in the determined direction causes an elastic deformation of the tongue by a cooperation between the lug and the first part of the inner face of the tongue, the tongue returning to its rest position once the lug is in the bottom of the groove to lock the lug in position.

Thus, in the present invention, it is the shape of the groove that defines the elastic locking means of the lug. The groove thus fulfills both a guide function of the lug, during assembly, and locking of said lug, at the end of the assembly. No added locking element is required in the present invention.

Advantageously, between the determined point and the second portion of the inner surface of the tongue is an inclined portion of steeper slope than said first portion, thus allowing the torque to be applied to pull out the lug from the bottom of the groove is greater than the torque to be applied to bring the pin into said bottom of the groove.

Preferably, the tongue comprises a free end arranged to bear against the first part during the elastic deformation of the tongue to prevent the tongue from exceeding its elastic limit.

Preferably, the watch case according to the invention further comprises a seal between the first and second pieces. In one embodiment, the seal is compressed in the direction of the determined axis. In another embodiment, the seal is compressed radially relative to the determined axis.

The bayonet connection may comprise a plurality of said lugs and several said respective grooves. In this case, the lugs, respectively the grooves, are preferably regularly distributed around the determined axis.

Typically, one of the first and second parts comprises a middle and the other of the first and second parts comprises a bottom box. For example, the part comprising the caseband is said first piece and the piece comprising the caseback is said second piece.

  • the figure 6 shows different successive relative positions of the middle-bezel and the bottom of a watch case according to another embodiment of the invention during the assembly of this box.

With reference to Figures 1 to 4 , a watch case according to the invention comprises a middle-bezel 1 and a bottom 2 assembled by a bayonet connection. The bayonet connection comprises grooves 3, three in number in the illustrated example, formed in an annular peripheral wall 4 of the bottom 2 and corresponding lugs 5 protruding from the inner face of the wall of the middle case-bezel 1. The grooves 3, respectively the lugs 5, are identical and regularly distributed around the axis A of the watch case.

With particular reference to the figure 4 each groove 3 comprises an inlet 6, made in the upper surface 7 of the annular peripheral wall 4, and a bottom 8. Each groove 3 defines in the annular peripheral wall 4 a tongue 9 whose attachment end 10 is at the level of the bottom 8 and whose free end 11 partially delimits the inlet 6. The tongue 9 comprises an inner face 12, constituting a wall of the groove 3 and extending from the inlet 6 to the bottom 8, and a external face 13 opposite the inner face 12 and forming part of the upper surface 7 of the annular peripheral wall 4. Like the remainder of the upper surface 7, the outer face 13 extends in a plane P1 perpendicular to the axis A , that is to say parallel to the plane of the watch case. The outer face 13 may nevertheless comprise a boss 13a in the area of the free end 11, the hump whose function will be explained later. The inner face 12 comprises a first portion 14 extending (in profile) from the inlet 6 to a point P and a second portion 15 extending after the point P and partially delimiting the bottom 8. The first part 14 is inclined relative to the plane P1 and thus gives the tongue 9 a greater thickness in the area of the point P than in an area closer to the free end 11. The second portion 15 extends parallel to the plane P1 and is set back from a plane P2 parallel to the plane P1 and passing through the point P, that is to say is distant from this plane P2 and located on the same side of the plane P2 as the first part 14. In terms of thickness, this implies that the thickness of the tongue 9 in the area of the second portion 15 is smaller than that in the area of the point P. Between the point P and the second portion 15 is an intermediate portion 16 which is inclined in the opposite direction to the direction of inclination of the first part 14 and whose slope is steeper than the slope of inclination of the first portion 14.

The bottom 2 of the watch case further comprises, beyond radially of the annular peripheral wall 4, an annular shoulder 17. This annular shoulder 17 is opposite an annular surface 18 of the wall of the case-case 1 The shoulder 17 and the surface 18 each extend in a plane perpendicular to the axis A and, in practice, are in contact or almost in contact. A groove 19 made in the surface 18 houses an O-ring 20 (cf. figures 2 and 5 ) which ensures the seal between the middle-telescope 1 and the bottom 2.

The figure 5 shows how the middle-bezel 1 and the bottom 2 are assembled. We start by aligning the pins 5 and the inputs 6 of the grooves 3 ( Figure 5 (a) ), then the lugs 5 are introduced into the grooves 3 by bringing the middle-bezel 1 of the bottom 2 axially (that is to say in the direction of the axis A) until the seal 20, which beyond the surface 18, come to rest on the shoulder 17 ( Figure 5 (b) ). Then, the caseband 1 is rotated relative to the bottom 2 about the axis A to move the lugs 5 towards the bottom 8 of the grooves 3 (FIG. Figure 5 (c) ). By sliding on the first inclined portion 14 of the tongues 9, the lugs 5 bring the middle part-bezel 1 closer to the base 2 by compressing the joint 20 until the surface 18 and the shoulder 17 come into contact ( Figure 5 (d) ). At this stage of the assembly, the lugs 5 have not yet reached the point P and the middle-bezel 1 and the bottom 2 can not be brought closer together axially because the contact surfaces 17, 18 are rigid. The rotation of the middle part-bezel 1 with respect to the bottom 2 then causes an elastic deformation of the tongues 9 allowing the lugs 5 to pass the point P and to enter the bottom 8 of the grooves 3 (FIG. figure 5 (e) ). To ensure that the elastic limit of the tongues 9 will not be exceeded, one can arrange the middle-bezel 1 so that the zone of the free end 11 of the tongues 9, more precisely the boss 13a, abuts against a shoulder internal 25 of the middle-bezel 1 at the moment when the lugs 5 arrive at the point P. The final elastic deformation of the tongues 9 allowing the passage of the lugs 5 in the bottom 8 is then in their central part. The bumps 13a make it possible to define well defined support zones between the tongues 9 and the shoulder 25. Once the lugs 5 have completely passed the point P and are in the bottom 8 of the grooves 3, the tongues 9 return to their rest position and lock thus the pins 5 in position ( Figure 5 (f) ). The height of the second portion 15 of the inner surface 12 of the tongues 9 is chosen so that the surface 18 and the shoulder 17 are kept in contact or almost in contact when the lugs 5 are in the bottom 8 of the grooves 3. Thus, in their assembled state, the middle-bezel 1 and the bottom 2 leave no day between them and the seal 20 is not visible from the outside, which contributes to the aesthetics of the box. In addition, the contact between the surface 18 and the shoulder 17 ensures that the seal 20 is in a determined compressed state, considered sufficient for a good seal of the box.

Such an assembly of the middle-bezel 1 and the bottom 2 is reversible. These two parts 1, 2 can indeed be disassembled by turning the middle-bezel 1 with respect to the bottom 2 in the opposite direction to that which allowed the assembly. However, thanks to the inclined intermediate portion 16 of the inner surface 12 of the tongues 9, with a steeper slope than the first portion 14, the force required to make the lugs 5 of the bottom 8 of the grooves 3 come out greater than the one necessary to enter the lugs 5 in said bottom 8. In this way, a reliable assembly is obtained. It will also be noted that the friction exerted by the seal 20 contributes to keeping the lugs 5 in their locked position.

The assembly according to the invention is very precise in that once locked in the bottom 8 of the grooves 3, the lugs 5 define a relative angular position determined for the middle-bezel 1 and the bottom 2. Thus, if the bottom 2 has a decor, it can be guaranteed that it will be correctly positioned relative to the middle-bezel 1 and its horns in particular.

In the example shown in Figures 1 to 5 , the seal 20 is arranged to compress axially (parallel to the axis A). Alternatively, the seal may be arranged to compress radially. The figure 6 shows such variant, with the seal, designated by the reference 21, housed in a groove 22 formed in an outer side surface of the bottom and a wall 23 of the middle-bezel to compress the seal 21 during assembly until it stops against a shoulder 24 of the bottom.

It goes without saying that the assembly principle as described above could be used to assemble other parts of a watch case, for example to attach a bezel to a caseband.
