Definitions
- the present application provides biocidal dampening solutions and their concentrates, such as those used for offset printing.
- a printing plate In offset printing, a printing plate is used which has substantially no height differences. Rather, the image and non-image areas of an offset printing plate have different wetting properties, ie hydrophobic and hydrophilic areas.
- An offset printing plate usually comprises a support provided with a suitable hydrophobic coating. At the non-image areas, the photosensitive layer is removed so that the hydrophilic substrate is exposed. The hydrophobic areas of the printing plate are wettable with printing ink, the hydrophilic areas accordingly not. Further details of offset printing technology are, for example, the Rompp-Lexikon "Paints and Printing Inks", Georg Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart, New York 1998, pp. 167-170 refer to.
- an offset printing plate is clamped onto the printing cylinder for the printing process.
- the printing cylinder touch two other rollers, the so-called ink roller and the so-called dampening roller.
- the ink roller By means of the ink roller, the ink is transferred to the printing plate, and by means of the dampening roller, the so-called fountain solution is applied to the plate surface.
- the fountain solutions are typically a composition consisting essentially of water and additives.
- the dampening solution has the task of producing a stable moisture film on the non-printing parts of the printing plate, which prevents the acceptance of the offset printing ink on these parts of the printing plate. It is irrelevant whether the dampening solution and then the color are applied during the application of dampening solution and ink on the printing plate with each revolution of the plate cylinder, or this is done in reverse order. From the impression cylinder, the imagewise applied ink is typically first printed on the so-called blanket cylinder and from there onto the paper.
- the amount of dampening solution transferred can be controlled, for example via the speed of the Scoop roller in the dampening unit.
- the dampening solution ensures the hydrophilization of the areas.
- a color-water emulsion forms from the dampening solution and the printing ink.
- the preparation of the ready-to-use dampening solution is advantageous and usual immediately before use in offset printing from appropriate fountain solution concentrates and water.
- Dampening agent concentrates are usually concentrated aqueous solutions, but occasionally also solid, powder, tablet or pasty products which contain the additives required for dampening solution in offset printing. From these concentrates, the ready-to-use dampening solution is prepared by diluting with or dissolving the concentrates in water.
- Such fountain solution can be attacked during storage and use of the printing press of microorganisms such as bacteria, mold, yeasts and algae and thereby converted into a no longer suitable for use form.
- microbiological deterioration of dampening solutions is manifested by bad odor, pH changes, discoloration, precipitation, increased corrosiveness and similar effects that reduce the quality of the products.
- Proper use of such products is then no longer possible, with the result that they must be disposed of properly. If microbiological decomposition occurs when the dampening solution is used in the printing machine, this can lead to process interruptions and thus to downtime.
- isothiazolinones in particular the 3: 1 mixture of chloromethylisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone (CMIT / MIT).
- CMIT / MIT chloromethylisothiazolinone
- JP 2959663 B discloses a dampening solution containing a biguanidinium salt.
- dampening solutions of a composition known per se have virtually no microbiological infestation any more if they contain n-dodecylguanidinium acetate or n-dodecylguanidinium chloride as the N-alkyl-guanidinium salt. It is surprising that already amounts of 1000 ppm or less in ready-to-use dampening solutions are sufficient to accomplish the good protective effect.
- N-alkyl-guanidinium salts are for example US 6,890,969 where they are described for the stabilization of polymer emulsions.
- the invention therefore dampening and fountain solution concentrates containing at least one N-alkyl-guanidinium salt, which is n-Dodecylguanidiniumacetat or n-Dodecylguanidiniumchlorid.
- N-alkyl-guanidinium salts are generally understood to mean compounds which have at least one guanidinium group or biguanide group which have at least one of their nitrogen atoms an alkyl radical or compounds in which in each case two groups selected from guanidinium groups and biguanide groups via at least one of them Nitrogen atoms are linked via an alkylene radical. Examples of compounds of the latter type include chlorhexidine and polyhexanide.
- Compounds of the formula (I) used according to the invention are n-dodecylguanidinium acetate and n-dodecylguanidinium chloride.
- the application concentration of these compounds in the ready-to-use dampening solution depends on the type and occurrence of the microorganisms to be controlled, the initial microbial load, e.g. the typically used for dilution of fountain solution concentrates water, as well as after the composition of the dampening solution to be protected.
- the optimum amount of use can be easily determined prior to practical use by testing in the laboratory in a manner well known to those skilled in the art.
- 10 to 5000, preferably 50 to 2000, more preferably 100 to 1500 and particularly preferably 100 to 1000 ppm of N-alkyl-guanidinium salts are used in the ready-to-use dampening solutions.
- the water content in the ready-to-use dampening solution is, for example, 95.0 to 99.7% by weight, preferably 98.0 to 99.7% by weight.
- the remainder to 100.0 wt .-% form the or the N-alkyl guanidinium salts, the pH regulators and optionally further added substances.
- the ready-to-use dampening solution preferably has a pH under standard conditions of from 3 to 9, preferably from 3.0 to 6.0 and particularly preferably from 4.0 to 5.5.
- pH regulators include, for example, buffer substances or buffer systems, or depending on the desired pH also acids and bases.
- Preferred acids are phosphoric acid or organic acids, such as. Citric, ascorbic, sulphanilic, tartaric, lactic and acetic acid, with citric acid being preferred because of its buffering capacity.
- the acids mentioned may preferably be used to form buffer systems, the corresponding alkali metal salts of these acids, particularly preferably the sodium, potassium and lithium salts or corresponding bases which neutralize a portion of the acid.
- the dampening solutions according to the invention may additionally contain either none, one or more active substances as further biocides.
- these other biocides may be selected from the group consisting of bronopol, benzylhemiformal, trimethylene-2-methylisothiazolinone-3-one, N-methylbenzisothiazolinone, 2-n-octylisothiazolin-3-one, tetramethylolacetylenediurea (TMAD), 1,3 Bis (hydroxymethyl) -5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione (DMDMH), p-chloro-m-cresol, dimethylolurea, 1,2-dibromo-2,4-dicyanobutane, 2,2-dibromo-3 nitrilopropionic acid amide, glutaric dialdehyde, ethylene glycol hemiformal, sodium pyrithione, 2-phenoxyethanol, phenoxypropanol, o-pheny
- the fountain solutions of the invention are characterized by high microbial stability, which can avoid the disadvantages mentioned above.
- the invention furthermore relates to fountain solution concentrates as defined in claim 9, from which the ready-to-use dampening solution is obtainable by adding water and consequently may contain the same components or not as described above for the ready-to-use dampening solution.
- the formulation of the fountain solution concentrates according to the invention is arbitrary and can be carried out, for example, in the form of solutions, pastes, granules or tablets.
- the fountain solution treated water preferably demineralized or water with a total hardness of 2.14 mmol / l or less such as 1.42 to use 2.14 mmol / l.
- N-alkyl-guanidinium salts required for microbiological stabilization and optionally further biocides may also be added to the dampening solutions of conventional composition directly before use in the printing process. Therefore, the invention also includes the use of N-alkyl-guanidinium salts for the production of dampening solutions as defined in claim 11, in particular for offset printing.
- a microbiological stress test was used to test the susceptibility of water-based systems to microbial attack and the effects of preservatives.
- the ready-to-use dampening solution (2.5% aqueous dilution) was admixed with the amounts of N-dodecylguanidinium hydrochloride (DGH) indicated in Table 1 (commercial solution of DGH with 35% by weight active ingredient content dissolved in a dipropylene glycol / propylene glycol mixture, N -2000 Antimicrobial from LANXESS, eg 0.1% by weight N-2000 antimicrobial for 350 ppm DGH).
- DGH N-dodecylguanidinium hydrochloride
- a microbiologically stable dampening solution can be obtained by addition of only 350 ppm DGH or 0.1% by weight N-2000 antimicrobial, which also withstands several massive contamination cycles.

[H2N-(C=NH2)-NH-R]+X- (I)

B. N-Alkyl-N,N-dimethyl-benzyl-ammoniumchlorid.
- Bakterien: Alcaligenes wie Alcaligenes faecalis, Bacillus wie Bacillus subtilis, Citrobacter wie Citrobacter freundii, Corynebacter wie Corynebacterium ammoniagenes, Enterobacter wie Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterococcus, wie Enterococcus hirae, Escherichia wie Escherichia coli, Proteus, wie Proteus hauseri Pseudomonas wie Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescens oder Pseudomonas stutzeri, Salmonella, wie Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus wie Staphylococcus aureus;
- Pilze: Acremonium, wie Acremonium strictum, Alternaria wie Alternaria tenuis, Aspergillus wie Aspergillus niger, Chaetomium wie Chaetomium globosum, Fusarium wie Fusarium solani, Geotrichum wie Geotrichum candidum, Lentinus wie Lentinus tigrinus, Penicillium wie Penicillium glaucum oder Penicillium pinophilum;
- Hefen: Candida wie Candida albicans, Rhodotorula wie Rhodotorula rubra, Yarrowia wie Yarrowia lipolytica;
- Bakterien: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus,
- Schimmelpilze: Acremonium strictum, Aspergillus niger, Geotrichum candidum
- Hefen: Candida albicans, Rhodotorula rubra.
104 Schimmel- bzw.
