Description

The invention relates to an electrical coupling element, for arrangement in a connector housing, preferably in a modular connector housing, consisting of an electrically insulating body, wherein the body contact chambers having disposed therein electrical contact elements, wherein the contact elements are preferably formed as a socket or pin contacts, said the contact elements have a front contact side in the plug-in direction and a cable terminal side rear in the plug-in direction, wherein the cable connection side has a connection means for fastening an electrical conductor to the cable connection side of the contact element, and wherein the base body has openings which allow access to the connection means.

Such an electrical coupling element is needed to reversibly connect electrically conductive strands, wires and cables together. An advantage of the arrangement in a modular connector housing is that there is great flexibility in assembling the individual coupling elements of a connector. This allows a connector to accommodate different conductor cross sections, as well as different types of signal conductors. For example, electrical conductors with optical conductors and pneumatic conductors in a connector can be combined as desired.

Stand der TechnikState of the art

Such connectors of modular construction are already widely known in the art. Exemplary here are the DE 34 42 056 A1 , the DE 298 12 500 U1 , the DE 197 07 120 C1 or even the DE 43 11 781 C1 known. All already known connectors have a receiving frame, which are provided for receiving individual coupling elements, so-called modules of various types.

The individual electrical coupling elements are usually of small design and have a plurality of electrical conductors. By a compact, uniform size of the coupling elements they can be arranged in any order in a connector housing.

A disadvantage of all known from the prior art connectors that due to the compact, uniform size of the coupling elements, the types of electrical contact elements arranged therein is severely limited.

Most electrical coupling elements have contact elements which are crimped to the conductors to be connected. These are introduced in the insertion direction in the coupling element where they lock and can only be removed with a special tool. Alternatively, contact elements with so-called axial screw connections are known from the prior art.

It is not possible to use contact elements with a screw connection, for which only a standard screwdriver is required instead of special tools for assembly and disassembly. Since the screwing of the contact element usually takes place via openings on the side of the coupling element, the air and creepage distances between the screw and the nearest coupling element or the receiving frame are too low due to open fittings and the compact design of the coupling elements.

Insufficient air and creepage distances can lead to falsification of signals or even to short circuits between different contact elements or between contact elements and the receiving frame.

Another problem with exposed screw on coupling elements is the touch safety, which is not given. Easy can of Persons handling exposed mating coupling elements are exposed to the exposed glands.

From the US2006 / 141871 A1 a coupling element with the features of the preamble of claim 1 is known.

Aufgabenstellungtask

The invention is therefore based on the object, a coupling element in such a way that it can be used with screw, without otherwise special tool for mounting is required and at the same time the risk of short circuits is reduced.

This object is achieved by a coupling element according to claim 1.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention are specified in the subclaims.

In the invention is an electrical coupling element which is intended to be arranged alone or with a plurality of other coupling elements in a connector housing. For receiving in the connector housing, a receiving frame is provided in the connector housing, which holds the coupling elements and by means of which the coupling elements can be fixed to the connector housing. The rectangular base body of the coupling element consist of an electrically insulating material and has one or more, along the direction of insertion continuous receiving chambers for electrical contact elements. The trained as pin or socket contacts contact elements are arranged in the coupling element, that is provided for electrical contacting contact side in the plug-in direction front plug-in area of the coupling element.

The coupling element has a connecting region which faces away from the plug-in region and is located behind in the plugging direction. In the connection area is the rear part of the electrical contact elements, the cable connection side added. To be connected electrical conductors are inserted into the connection area in the coupling element and mechanically fastened in the cable connection side of the electrical contact element.

The coupling element expediently has latching means for fixing the coupling element in the receiving frame of the plug connector housing. The locking means are located on the two narrow longitudinal sides of the rectangular coupling element. As a result, a plurality of juxtaposed, arranged in the receiving frame coupling elements are with their wide longitudinal sides together.

On one of the two wide longitudinal sides, the coupling element has a number of openings, which is identical to the number of receiving chambers in the main body. The openings extend from the outside of the coupling element to the respective receiving chamber, which are associated with the openings.

The openings are provided for receiving connection means, by means of which the electrical conductors to be connected are fastened to the contact element. The connection means is preferably designed as a screw, which is screwed into the cable connection side of the contact element and thus fixes the electrical conductor.

Also on the wide longitudinal side, which also has the openings for the connection means, a Abdeckblende is provided according to the invention. The Abdeckblende is an electrically non-conductive, areal trained element which partially covers one of the wider longitudinal sides of the coupling element.

The cover is expedient movably mounted, where they can perform a linear movement, in and against the direction of insertion. An end position in front of the cover panel in the direction of insertion forms an open one Position, and a plug-in direction rear end position a closed position. The cover has a number of openings, which is identical to the number of openings in the body.

The openings correspond in diameter to the openings in the base body and have in the open position of the cover a congruent position with the openings in the body. If the cover is moved to the closed position, the Abdeckblende covers the openings in the body and access to the arranged in the openings connecting means is not possible.

The filler panel is formed in the insertion direction so that it comes in the fully inserted state of the coupling element with a counter-coupling element with the cover of the counter-coupling element frontally in the insertion direction in contact. In this fully inserted state, both cover panels, which are the coupling element and that of the counter-coupling element, in the closed position, that access to the connection means is not possible.

This dimensioning of the cover panels according to the invention aims that the cover panels of two to be inserted coupling elements, always push each other in the closed position, provided that the filler panels are not in the closed position when mating the coupling elements.

In a preferred embodiment, the Abdeckblende has on its side facing the base body via one or more locking means. These locking means engage in the closed position in the openings of the main body. An accidental displacement of the cover in the open position is avoided.

An advantageous development of the coupling element provides, in the insertion direction in front of the openings for the connection means in the main body further To arrange depressions. The recesses are arranged so that the locking means of the cover in the open position engage in the recesses and secure the cover in the open position against accidental closing.

In an expedient embodiment, the Abdeckblende has on its side facing the base body via ribs, which engage in grooves in the main body of the coupling element. These serve in the closed position to increase the electrical creepage distances between the individual contact elements of the coupling element.

In the Fig.1 an electrical coupling element 1 is shown in a first embodiment with female contact elements in a spatial view. The electrical coupling element 1 consists of a base body 10 which is made of an electrically non-conductive material. The main body 10 is formed from a plug-in direction S front plug-in area 12 and a back in the insertion direction S connection area 14.

The plug-in region 12 is provided for coupling with a second coupling element 1, while the connection region 14 serves to receive electrical conductors 3 to be connected

On the narrow longitudinal sides of the base body 10, in each case a locking means 15 is formed, which serves for receiving and locking the coupling element 1 in a connector housing. The shape and dimensions of the coupling element 1, as well as the latching means 15 standardized, so that a combination and the replacement of various coupling elements 1 in a connector is possible.

At the in Fig. 1 shown top side of the coupling element 1 is a Abdeckblende 30 shown. The cover panel 30 is provided according to the invention for covering connecting means 28. The connection means 28 serve to connect the electrical conductors 3 to the contact elements 20, which are accommodated in the coupling element 1. Preferably, the connection means 28 are formed as screws.

The cover panel 30 is shown here in a front in the insertion direction S mounting position A. In this mounting position A access to the connection means 28 is possible to actuate them. The access to the connection means 28 is made possible by openings 40, which are introduced into the cover panel 30, and located in the mounting position A via the connection means 28.

A second embodiment with pin contact elements is shown in FIG Fig. 2 also shown in a spatial view. This embodiment differs from the embodiment Fig. 1 by a matched plug-in area 12 to receive corresponding contact elements 20 which are formed as pin contact elements.

In Fig. 2 the cover panel 30 is shown in a rear operating position B in the insertion direction S. In this linearly displaced position against the plug S, access to the connection means 28 is not possible. The also made of an electrically non-conductive material Abdeckblende 30 conceals the connection means 28, so that neither a mechanical, nor an electrical access to this is possible.

A coupling element 1 first embodiment is in Fig. 3 shown in a spatial exploded view. In the left-hand area, the contact elements 20 designed here as socket contact elements are shown. The contact elements 20 have a rear in the insertion direction S cable connection side 24, which is adapted to receive an electrical conductor 3 and to contact both mechanically and electrically. For mechanical contacting of the conductor 3, the connection means 28 - here screws - are screwed into the cable connection side 24 and clamp the inserted conductor 3.

The front in the insertion direction S region of the contact elements 20 is formed by the contact side. These contact elements 20 designed here as socket contacts serve for contacting with the contact elements 20 'of a counter-coupling element 1'.

In the middle area of the Fig. 3 the main body 10 of the coupling element 1 is shown. The plug-in region 12 of the coupling element 1 is provided for receiving the contact side 22 of the contact elements 20 and the connection region 14 for receiving the cable connection side 24 of the contact elements 20.

On the upper, wide longitudinal side of the base body 10 are provided in a corresponding number of the contact elements 20 - here five - 18 openings. The openings 18 extend from the top of the main body 10 into the contact chambers 11, in which the contact elements 20 are arranged. The openings 18 are intended to receive the connection means 28 and to allow access to them. The connection means 28 are screwed through the openings 18 in the cable connection sides 24 of the contact elements 20.

The main body 10 has on its narrow longitudinal sides preferably guide grooves 17, which serve for guiding and anchoring the cover panel 30. The cover panel 30 is guided by means of guide webs 37 in the guide grooves 17 and can thus perform a linear movement in the insertion direction S between the mounting position A and the working position B.

In the insertion direction S next to the openings 18 are additional recesses 19, which serve to lock the cover 30 in the mounting position A. For latching detent means 38, which are located on the base body 10 facing side of the cover 30 are in the recesses 19 a. The recesses 19 correspond in shape to the openings 18, whereby the cover panel 30 can latch in the working position B with the locking means 39 in the openings 18.

A bzw. in Arbeitsposition B.The locking means 38 are designed as flat elevations on the Abdeckblende 30. These fit of shape and size exactly in the openings 18 and the recesses 19, thus keeping the cover panel 30 in mounting position A and in working position B.

In the right area of the Fig. 3 an inventive Abdeckblende 30 is shown, which also in Fig. 4 from the base body 10 facing side is shown. The cover panel 30 is roughly U-shaped and made of electrically non-conductive material. The U-shape serves to ensure that the cover panel 30 at least partially surrounds the base body 10. The integrally formed on the inside of the cover panel 30 guide webs 37 engage in the guide grooves 17 on the base body 10 and thus hold the Abdeckblende 30 on the base body 10. The guide grooves 17 leave a linear, in Plug direction S directed movement of the Abdeckblende 30 from the mounting position A to the working position B.

In the illustrated embodiment, the cover panel 30 has a spring element 34 which is mounted in the insertion direction S front portion 32 on the cover panel 30. The spring element 34 exerts a force on the cover panel 30 when the coupling element 1 is contacted with a second coupling element 1 'and forces the cover panel 30 in the working position B.

In accordance with the invention, ribs 36 are integrally formed on the side of the cover panel 30 facing the main body 10. The ribs 36 dive into grooves 16 on the base body 10. By immersing the ribs 36 in the grooves 16, the electrical creepage distances between the individual contact elements 20 in the base body 10 are increased.

In the illustrated embodiment, the cover panel 30 has an additional stopper 39, which is intended to prevent accidental removal of the cover panel 30 from the base body 10 when moving the cover panel 30 in the mounting position A.

The Fig. 5 and the Fig. 6 each show a pair of coupling elements 1, 1 'in not plugged state or in the inserted state. Evident are the opposite illustrated coupling elements 1,1 ', wherein the coupling element 1 is provided with female contacts, and the coupling element 1' with pin contacts. In each case in the insertion direction S, S 'rear connection portion 14, 14' of the base body 10, 10 'electrical conductors 3, 3' are shown, which are in the coupling elements 1, 1 'with the non-visible contact elements 20, 20' electrically connected , In Fig. 6 are in plugged state, the plug-in areas 12, 12 'inserted into one another.

According to the invention are in Fig. 5 the cover panels 30, 30 'shown in the mounting position A. In this position they provide access to the Connection means 28, 28 'with which the electrical conductors 3, 3' in the contact elements 20, 20 'are mechanically and electrically fixed.

In mated condition, as in Fig. 6 is shown, the cover panels 30, 30 'in working position B and thus cover the access to the connection means 28, 28'. By plugging the coupling elements 1, 1 'into one another, the cover panels 30, 30' mutually shifted to the working position B. The spring elements 34, 34 'press against each other and thus exert a force on the cover panels 30, 30', which hold the cover panels 30, 30 'in working position B.
