Dazu ist der die elektrischen Kontakte aufnehmende Steckerkörper auf der Steckseite mit einer Schlitzöffnung versehen, in die die vorteilhaft flächenförmig ausgebildeten Kodierelemente eingefügt und verrastet sind. Vorzugsweise stoßen dabei die Außenkanten der Kodierelemente beim Steckvorgang passgenau aneinander.
Ober- und unterhalb der Schlitzöffnung sind elektrische Kontakte, getrennt nach Signalkontakten und Strom/Spannungskontakten angeordnet.
Dabei trägt der vergrößerte Abstand mit dem zusätzlichen Luftspalt zu einer günstigen Signaltrennung bei.
Die nur unwesentlich größer als die scheibenförmigen Kodierelemente geformten Schlitzöffnungen sind mit Durchgriffskanälen versehen, durch die an den Kodierelementen angeformte Rasthaken geführt sind, die an Rastkanten an der Kabelanschlussseite des jeweiligen Steckerkörpers verrastbar sind.
Dabei können verrastete Kodierelemente auch wieder aus den Schlitzöffnungen entfernt oder ausgetauscht werden.
Zu ihrem Schutz sind die Steckkontakte und die Kodierstrukturen der Kodierelemente, die aus dem Steckerkörper hervorragen, durch eine entsprechend ausgebildete, den Steckerkörper umgebende metallische Abschirmhülse geschützt.
Dabei ist in der Abschirmhülse eine V-förmige Polarisierung eingeformt, die zunächst eine korrekte Steckposition der beiden Steckverbinder beim Steckvorgang sicherstellt, während die sich ergänzenden Kodierelemente gewährleisten, dass genau diese beiden Steckverbinder bei einer Mehrzahl von möglichen Steckverbindungen korrekt zusammensteckbar sind.

Die Kontakte sind innerhalb der Öffnungen 28' und 29' im Steckerkörper 10, 10' angeordnet.
Zwischen den unterschiedlichen ausgeführten elektrischen Kontakten ist auf der Steckseite eine Schlitzöffnung 12 vorgesehen, die zur Aufnahme eines flächenartigen Kodierelementes 20 vorgesehen ist.
Der rechteckige, isolierende Steckerkörper 10 ist von einer Abschirmhülse 16 umgeben, deren Nahtstelle in einer V-förmigen, mittigen Nut 18 zwischen den paarweise angeordneten Signalkontakten 29 verläuft.
Dabei ist die Nut zunächst zur Polarisierung für eine korrekte Steckung der beiden Steckverbinder 1, 5 vorgesehen.
Rückseitig sind die elektrischen Kontakte mit einer Leiterplatte 8 verbunden. Das Kodierelement 20 kann auf seiner Steckseite unterschiedliche geometrische Formen aufweisen. Möglich sind einfache waagerecht und senkrecht angeordnete Außenkanten, wie auch schräge und kurvenähnliche Formen.
Wichtig ist nur, dass die zur Kodierung vorgesehenen Außenkanten beim Steckvorgang passgenau aneinander stoßen, um eine Fehlsteckung von zwei Steckverbindern 1 und 5 zu unterbinden.
