Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for printing wood-based panels according to claim 1 and a wood-based panel with printed decorative layer according to claim 13.
- wood-based panels in the furniture industry, as floor coverings or for covering walls and ceilings requires a processing or refinement of the surface of the wood-based panels.
- the wood-based panels are coated with decorative paper.
- decorative paper There are no limits to the variety of differently patterned decorative papers, so that wood-based panels with a variety of different decors such. Stone or wood decors are available.
- the printing techniques mainly used here are gravure printing and digital printing.
- the gravure printing process is a printing technique in which the elements to be imaged are in the form of depressions in a printing form which is inked before printing.
- the ink is located primarily in the wells and is transmitted due to contact pressure of the printing plate and adhesive forces on the object to be printed.
- digital printing on the other hand, the print image is transferred directly from a computer to a printing machine, such as a digital press. Laser printer or inkjet printer. The use of a static printing form is eliminated.
- Another aspect is that during transport and / or handling of plates with unprotected decorative prints on top in a production chain with dirt and / or damage to the decor is to be expected. This leads to quality degradation, but can often be identified late in the production chain, so that high costs and costs follow.
- Print designs are heretofore conventionally provided with suitable protective layers, such as resin layers, which are typically fully cured. That's how it describes WO 2006/031951 A1 a method of printing on an article, wherein a first image is printed on the outer surface of eg an MDF board and a first transparent coating eg UV curable protective layer is applied to cover the first image which is then dried using conventional curing techniques.
- EP 1 872 959 A1 describes a method for printing wood-based elements such as an MDF board, wherein the applied print layer is then provided with a protective layer.
- US 2004/086678 A1 relates to a panel comprising a backing layer, a primer layer, a texture, a print pattern and a protective layer, wherein the protective layer is dried or cured after application.
- WO 2011/020755 A1 describes a method for producing a printed surface on a wood material.
- the print layer is applied by means of an inkjet printer.
- a wear protection layer can be applied as a liquid medium, which is then dried. From the IP.com Journal "A method for manufacturing a panel" (24.9.2012 ) the printing of a protective layer with a digital printer is known. In turn, another layer is applied as a protective layer to the print layer.
- the present invention is therefore based on the object to improve the digital printing process for wood-based panels so far, so that transport and handling decorated panels without quality losses are possible and at the same time restrictions in further processing are largely overcome.
- the present method provides a protective layer on a digitally printed wood-based panel which is at the same time arranged as a mediator, so-called primer, between layers which are not compatible with one another, such as decorative printing or decorative layer on the one hand and subsequent wear protection or other finishing layers on the other hand.
- the present method has a variety of advantages.
- an adapted protection and primer system is used depending on the type of further processing.
- a resin preferably a water-compatible resin, a radiation-curable, typically non-water-compatible lacquer, or else polyurethanes which have good adhesion properties can be applied directly to the digital printing.
- After hardening or setting the protective layer intermediate storage of the printed plates is possible without risk of surface damage or contamination of the decorative layer.
- no problems, such as bonding of plates or abrasion and / or detachment of the decoration can be expected. This also ensures that in the event of a business interruption in further processing, the digital printer does not have to stop his work.
- the present method opens up the possibility of serving the various finishing systems, so that digital printing can be used for a wider range of products, e.g. lacquered furniture fronts, laminate flooring, facade panels.
- a water-compatible resin can be used as a protective layer on water-based inks, since as a finishing layer or wear layer usually a coating of an aminoplast resin, such as a melamine-formaldehyde resin, should be provided.
- an aminoplast resin such as a melamine-formaldehyde resin
- radiation-curable coatings may also be planned as a finishing layer or wearing course in the above-mentioned applications for indoor use. In such a case, the use of a radiation-curable varnish as a protective layer would be useful.
- primer / protective layers can also be used. This depends on the further refining steps and materials to be applied to the print.
- latex or solvent inks can be used.
- primer / protective layer transport / storage without damage or loss of quality can be ensured.
- a coating of "any" materials to achieve desired performance properties is possible.
