Unter Parkareal wird hier ein geografisches Gebiet, beispielsweise ein Stadtgebiet, mit einer gegebenen Anzahl an gebührenpflichtigen Stellplätzen für Fahrzeuge verstanden. Wenigstens ein Teil der Stellplätze ist an öffentlichen Straßen angeordnet, Stellplätze können aber auch in Parkhäusern oder auf Parkplätzen im Parkareal angeordnet sein. Die Abrechnungszentrale bestimmt daraus die fällige Parkgebühr und bucht diese von einem hierfür vorgesehenen Konto des Nutzers ab. Die Auswertungseinrichtung steht in Kommunikationsverbindung mit der Abrechnungszentrale und ist dazu eingerichtet, anhand der Position des Endgerätes und des Zeitpunktes und der Höhe der Parkgebührenentrichtung eine Stellplatzbelegung für das Parkareal zu ermitteln. Hierzu wird die Differenz der Gesamtzahl an Stellplätzen im Parkareal und der zu einem Informationszeitpunkt durch Parkgebührenentrichtung belegten Stellplätze gebildet, um die Anzahl an freien Stellplätzen zu ermitteln. Die Stellplatzbelegung kann auch als Verhältnis der freien Stellplätze zur Gesamtzahl an Stellplätzen angegeben werden.
