Dabei kommen vermehrt Kantenbänder aus polierfähigem Kunststoff, wie Acryl oder dergleichen zum Einsatz, die durch thermische Behandlung zumindest einseitig klebfähig sind, wobei die Erwärmung beispielsweise mittels Laser- o- der Plasmastrahlen erfolgt. Zur Berücksichtigung von Dickentoleranzen der Platte, d. h., um eine vollständige Abdeckung der Plattenkante zu gewährleisten, ist das Kantenband so ausgelegt, dass ober- und/oder unterseitig nach dem Ankleben ein gewisser Überstand verbleibt, der in einem folgenden Arbeitsschritt abgetragen wird. Hierzu kommen geeignete Spanwerkzeuge, wie Fräser, Ziehklingen oder der- gleichen zum Einsatz. Um hier Abhilfe zu schaffen, wird in der DE 20 2005 002 637 U1 der Einsatz eines Polierwerkzeuges vorgeschlagen, auf das ein zähflüssiges oder pastöses Poliermittel aufgetragen wird. Jedoch hat sich die Konsistenz dieses Poliermittels als nachteilig, insbesondere hinsichtlich des Betriebs der Gesamtvorrichtung herausgestellt, da das auf das rotierende Polierwerkzeug aufgetragene Poliermittel unkontrolliert in den Raum geschleudert wird, wodurch sich eine nicht unerhebliche Verschmutzung der Bearbeitungsmaschine insgesamt, zumindest aber in dem Umgebungsbereich des Polierwerkzeuges ergibt.
