More specifically, it relates to a smoking article self-fabricating apparatus and a method of self-manufacturing smoking articles, which smoking articles are preferably cigarettes. Disclosed specifically and separately, the individual components of the self-production device as an independent and self-contained units and the precursors and intermediates that serve the smoking article manufacturing.
- the WO 2007/125425 A2 discloses a smoking article self-production device according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a cigarette making machine that provides the user with several types of tobaccos for selection and manual filling is known from US Pat US 5,666,975 known. The user must first know in advance what type of flavor will be when choosing a specific type of tobacco.
- a smoking article self-production device is to be shown, which allows the user to produce cigarettes of high quality even in a consistent manner and according to his wishes.
- the user has the option of Generating different cigarettes available.
- the user can choose with the device according to the invention how his cigarettes should be or taste, where he has the choice of several options. This can be done with the aid of the present invention, without having to change the tobacco supply on a device during the manufacturing process, and without having to change operating parameters such as the stuffing density, which can have a negative effect on cigarette quality and either too strong cigarettes or too loosely packed Produces tobacco strands.
- Such anyway problematic measures are to change the property of the manufactured smoking article according to the invention therefore no longer necessary, but can be high quality cigarettes consistently create because operating parameters such as stuffing density to change the taste, strength or draw resistance no longer adversely affected Need to become.
- the user can now make the right taste via the appropriate selection for the tobacco and / or the filter sleeve and thus reproducibly combine different constituents of the cigarettes in order to obtain a product according to his personal taste or his present preference.
- the invention thus makes it possible to "personalize" the smoking article or the cigarettes.
- the cigarette is defined by the properties of the final product, that is, based on the desired result and / or smoking experience. Accordingly, the cigarette can advantageously be defined in advance in terms of its smoke properties (eg flavor, strength, etc.).
- the user can by his inputs to the selection system thus in particular such smoke properties, ie properties of the cigarette when smoking (by the user) to select in advance, and the device of the invention will then produce a corresponding cigarette.

- control unit 6 Only in conceptual representation or schematic representation (black box), a control unit 6 and a selection system 7 are shown, wherein the arrow from the control unit to the other device components out means that this control unit controls their activity or workflow.
- the arrow between selection system 7 and control unit 6 in turn means that its activity can be determined by the selection system 7 (and vice versa), by inputs to input elements 8.
- the selection system also comprises an output unit, which can display an image output 9.
- the selection system 7 is designed as a touch screen on which both inputs and outputs can be made.
- the insertion or docking of receiving elements 14 for tobacco and cigarette tubes in the device 1 and on the device 1 is hereinafter with reference to the FIGS. 2 to 4 explained in more detail for the present embodiment.
- the receptacles 14 for tobacco or tubes are cylindrical cartridges, which are even more accurate later be explained. They dock on the device 1 by being inserted into docking stations 18, which in their cross-sectional shape form slightly more than a semicircle in order to be able to hold the cartridges 14. They are formed in the docking unit 12, as two mirror-inverted arrangements to the central axis of the apparatus (as left part 12l and right part 12r).
- the docking stations 18 are limited by intervening projections 20, which divide the docking unit parts 12r and 12l into four docking stations 18.
- the apparatus comprises three to six docking stations for filter cartridge cartridges and three to six docking stations for tobacco cartridges, in the illustrated embodiment the preferred variant with four docking stations for tobacco cartridges (tobacco receptacle 2, left) and four docking stations for filter cartridges Cartridges (smoking article holder 3, right) is present.
- the docking stations for the tobacco cartridges and those for the filter cartridge cartridges are assigned defined locations, e.g. on opposite sides of the device 1. However, it is also possible not to provide predefined locations and to leave it to the user to choose the ratio of filter sleeve cartridges and tobacco cartridges according to their preferences and their preferred combination options.
- the cartridges are cylindrical in shape and have an outer cylindrical member 14a and an inner cylindrical member 14b which are rotatable with each other and have longitudinally slotted openings 14e and 14f (see Figs. 6 and 7).
- the outer cylinder member has an inner projection 14 c
- the inner cylinder member has an outer projection 14d, whose function will be explained later.
- Reference numbers 26 and 28 designate contact or engagement elements arranged on the inner end side of the cartridges 14, wherein, for example, by rotating the engagement element 28, the inner cylinder element 14b can be rotated relative to the outer cylinder element 14a.
- the engagement elements 28 still serve as part of a safety arrangement, because they can be seen exactly in a counterpart 38 (38r, 38l; FIGS. 8 and 9 ) fit.
- the cartridge 14 may carry a part of a radio device, so for example, the transmitter 48 of an RFID pair.
- the radio device can on the one hand be a safety device, on the other hand also transmit information (eg about the contents of the cartridge 14).
- the cartridges for the filter sleeves and the tobacco may be different in construction, but they are preferably of largely identical construction - possibly only mirror-inverted designed to be used in different sides of the device can. It is also conceivable to make the construction of the cartridges identical even for a two-sided, mirror-inverted device, in which case the transport mechanism or the movement or actuating mechanism would have to be correspondingly changed in order to compensate for the reversed arrangement.
- the docking station can also be adapted accordingly to ensure the usability of identical cartridges at each location of the device, e.g. by a symmetrical arrangement of the webs 16 and grooves 22nd
- a security arrangement can operate, for example, according to the key / lock principle. If defined docking stations for filter cartridge cartridges on the one hand and tobacco cartridges on the other hand are present, these security arrangement elements can also ensure that the cartridges are used in the right places of the device.
- the cartridges may include information carriers (eg, RFID elements 48) that provide information about the contents of the cartridges, which in turn may be retrieved from defined elements at the remote sites of the device 1.
- this information includes the amount of content and detail about the content, which in filter sleeves may include filter type, ventilation, flavoring, visual appearance, and many other properties.
- the tobacco it may be information about the type of tobacco, the mixture composition, the flavoring and many other things. This information can also serve to guarantee the legality of the cigarette product produced, as well as to convey data on the properties of the final product and the degree of filling.
- the storage of the information can be realized in all possible ways, for example optical, electro-optical or electro-magnetic types.
- the information is stored on an RFID transmitter chip 48, shown in FIG. 8, and can be read out by an antenna 46 attached to the device 1 FIG. 8 on the engagement counterpart 36r.
- the said information carriers and transmitters eg RFID
- the said information carriers and transmitters can also form the fuse arrangement or a part thereof.
- the cartridges may have many and different outer shapes and dimensions. Preferably, however, they are of the same shape and size for tobacco and filter sleeves and contain at least approximately (or precisely) the amount of tobacco and filter sleeves necessary to produce a given number of cigarettes. One can go out in one embodiment of the number of existing sleeves and adjust the amount of tobacco to it.
- the cartridges have identical sizes, it is necessary to calculate the additional volume of the filters compared to the tobacco volume taking. Therefore, to ensure the safe storage of the tobacco and to limit its degradation, it is a preferred option to reduce the internal volume of the tobacco cartridge, for example by a wall or stopper that leaves a volume empty, which filters the filters equivalent.
- the cartridges 14 are substantially airtight sealed before being used. They can then be opened by turning the engaging element 28 by bringing the longitudinal slots 14e and 14f over one another as shown in FIG FIG. 7 is shown. In the state of FIG. 7 Tobacco portions or filter sleeves leave the cartridge 14 (fall out), and then it is possible by the rotation of the inner cylinder member 14 b again the state of FIG. 6 to reach to close the cartridge 14.
- the cylinder elements 14a and 14b are provided with sealing elements which in the present embodiment as an inner projection 14c on the outer cylinder member 14a and as an outer projection 14d on the inner cylinder member 14b are designed.
- the projections 14c and 14d cooperate so that a slight radial stress arises and therefore the components of the cylinder elements are pressed against each other in the region of the projections, whereby a tight seal, as an air-tight seal.
- Other seals, such as rubber seals or lips are basically usable.
- closure elements may be provided which are removed by the consumer before insertion and use in the device 1 and substantially airtight seal the longitudinal slot 14e, for example an adhesive strip.
- Different amounts of tobacco or filter sleeves may be present in the cartridges, preferably suitable for producing from 5 to 40 cigarettes, in particular embodiment from 10 to 30 cigarettes.
- cartridges may include a variety of tobaccos, tobacco blends and compositions. It may be loose tobacco, which is cut in a suitable width, so cut tobacco. The portioning of the tobacco would then have to be done by appropriate elements on the device, which is possible in principle. Portioning devices are known from many documents of the prior art, for example, from the above-mentioned DE 198 12 644 A1 , In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, however, pre-portioned tobaccos are used, for example pre-portioned for the amount of a cigarette.
- the pre-portioned tobacco preferably has the shape of a cylindrical tobacco rod, which approximately corresponds to the diameter of the empty volume of a filter sleeve.
- the length of the pre-portioned tobacco rod in preferred embodiments is 5-15% longer than this empty volume, taking into account that when transferring the tobacco, the density of the rod is increased and its length is reduced.
- the pre-portioned tobacco may have variations in density introduced during production of the strand to reduce end failure.
- it may be formed on the sheaths a ring of additional material, which preferably has the shape of a short cylinder having an inner diameter corresponding to the outer diameter of the sheath.
- a shell is as a shell 102 in the FIG. 27 which will be referred to later in more detail.
- the ring or cylinder 126 is secured to the tobacco casing by a suitable method, such as by gluing, and allows for easy and secure gripping of the casing during tobacco transfer.
- the filter sleeves may be conventional filter sleeves or at least be constructed on such.
- Such filter sleeves include a wrapped in a wrapping paper filter, a cigarette paper for receiving the tobacco and a tipping paper that attaches the filter to the cigarette paper.
- Filter sleeves which can be used with the invention can have all known and conceivable dimensions for desired cigarettes, such as kingsize, slim, superslim, etc. All known filter technologies can be used, for example tow filters, activated carbon filters, silicate filters, etc. , and the filter may have flavor in a variety of forms, such as geflavourte Tows or threads, capsules, granules, etc.
- the filter may be ventilated.
- the cigarette paper is preferably technologically implemented so that its inflammability is kept low according to legal requirements.
- the filter sleeves may comprise at their open end on the cigarette paper a ring of additional material, which preferably has the shape of a short cylinder, with an inner diameter corresponding to the outer diameter of the cigarette paper.
- a ring is for example as a ring 122 in the FIG. 27 shown at the front end of the sleeve 112, which will be discussed in more detail later on these embodiments. It is suitably fixed to the cigarette paper part of the sleeve, for example, glued, and it allows a lighter and safer grip of the filter sleeve during tobacco transfer.
- the ring is preferably removed by cutting off the cigarette end with the ring so as to produce the finished shape of the cigarette in a high quality appearance.
- a corresponding cutting device is in principle in the FIG. 30 and it comprises a lower, round receptacle 136 for the cigarette 105 to which an equally half-round upper part 132 is articulated, which guides a knife 134, which can cut the finished cigarette 105 at a suitable location, thus also, for example, just behind the Ring 122 ( FIG. 27 ) after the transfer of the tobacco and the production of the finished cigarette.
- FIG. 8 shows the operating unit 31, which can open the cartridge 14, in an enlarged view, as well as the FIG. 12 .
- the on a carriage 32 on the rail guide (rod rail 40 and drive linkage 34) movable actuator 31 has a motor 42, the two extend through a pinion drive 41 two rods 37r and 37l left and right out of its guide cylinder 44 and retract into it. In this case, a rotation of the rods 37, which is generated by a slotted guide 33, 35.
- each the previously mentioned counterpart 38 here two counterparts 38r and 38l, mounted behind a flange 36 (36r, 36l).
- a flange 36 On the flange 36 is also the receiver or the antenna 46 of the RFID pair 48, 46 (see FIG. 8 and explanation above).
- the counterparts 38r and 38l engagement elements which match exactly to the engagement elements 28 of the cartridge 14. This ensures, on the one hand, that the rotation of the rods 37 can be transmitted to the engagement element 28 and thus the cartridge 14 can be opened or closed, on the other hand, the engagement element 28 (key) and the counterpart 36 (lock) form part of a through the RFID Pair 46, 48 supplemented securing arrangement, which ensures that only provided for this purpose cartridges 14 are used with the device.
- the movement device 30 has the two rails or rods 34 and 40, and in FIG. 9 can still be seen that they are involved between a foot 43 and a head portion 45, on the upper surface of the motor 47 is seated, with the help of the movement means 30, the actuator 31 on the rail guide 34, 40 on the carriage 32 up and drive down can.
- the possible directions of movement for the actuator 31 are in the FIGS. 10 to 12 shown separately by arrows.
- the actuator 31 isolated. It is additionally connected in the illustrated preferred embodiment with the transport unit 5, which can be moved in this composite by the movement means 30 up and down and from the back in the FIG. 13 you can see.
- the transport device 5 is mounted on the carriage 32 of the actuator, via a left and right extending transport frame 52, to each of the left and right receptacle 50r and 50l hang on suspensions 54r and 54l.
- the collecting containers 50r and 50l are used to collect tobacco portions or filter sleeves which fall out of the cartridges 14 and have to be brought to the production unit 4.
- US Pat FIG. 14 Another embodiment of the transport unit, which is not implemented here in device 1, but which is quite conceivable, is disclosed in US Pat FIG. 14 shown. It has a chute 51, over which, for example, tobacco portions 100 can slide downwards after they have dropped out of the cartridges 14 via an opening mechanism 53. Down to the chute 51 would then join the production unit, so here is the part that receives the tobacco portion 100.
- the tobacco portions and the filter sleeves are collected from the cartridges 14 opened for this purpose by the actuating unit 31 and are transported to the unit 4 without damage for production, where the tobacco transfer takes place.
- the transport unit 5 together with the movement and the actuating unit 30, 31 is arranged centrally between the cartridge docking stations 12 and the cartridges 14 for the tobacco or the filter sleeves.
- the moving unit may function with the motor driven drive linkage 34 as shown, but also, for example, by a jackscrew, and RFID pairs may be mounted on either side of the actuator 31 or, more generally, the transport, motion or actuator unit.
- the actuator unit 31 opens the cartridge 14, whereupon a filter sleeve falls into a collection container 50r of the transport unit, after which the cartridge 14 is closed again.
- the transport unit 5 can now remain for picking up a tobacco portion at this level, or go to another height, whereupon the corresponding opposite counterpart (eg 38l) opens a tobacco cartridge 14, whereby a tobacco portion falls into the collecting container 50l and the corresponding cartridge 14 again is closed.
- the transport unit 5 moves down to the smoking article manufacturing unit 4, where the tobacco is transferred into the sleeve, as will be explained in more detail later.
- a sleeve end forming unit 60 with a mounting 64 and a conical member 62, which for insertion into the open end of a filter sleeve 110 is intended, namely in the sleeve 112 made of cigarette paper, which is attached to the filter 114.
- FIG. 16 shows an insertion aid 70 having a body 68 which forms a funnel shape on the left side and on the right side has a finger extensions 66 having spreader. From the left, for example, a tobacco portion 100 can be introduced into the funnel-shaped opening of the body 68 and pushed through the finger-shaped spreader 66. In this case, the sleeve 112 is pushed from the right onto the spreader 66, which could also be referred to as an "open holder", until it rests on the left in the outer gap. Through the fingers of the spreader 66 through, then the tobacco 100 is inserted into the sleeve 112.
- FIG. 17 Another embodiment, but having substantially the same functions, is exemplified in FIG. 17 as an insertion aid 71 with the funnel or passage body 73 and the spreader or open holder 75.
- FIGS. 18 to 22 Another embodiment of an insertion aid according to the invention is in the FIGS. 18 to 22 shown at various stages of the tobacco transfer.
- the following components are used for the insertion aid, which is designated overall by the reference numeral 77: a funnel element 74, which has a sleeve retention element or a clamp 78, and a filter sleeve holding and retaining or holding element adjoining thereto with a holding body 72 and a fingered spreader 76.
- a tobacco portion 100 as surrounding a shell 102 tobacco rod 104
- a guide punch 80 with a front circumferential groove or catch groove 82nd
- the tobacco transfer into the filter sleeve is made after picking up these two elements by the transport unit 5 in the manufacturing unit 4.
- To the tobacco portions 100 and the filter sleeve 110 are deposited at substantially axially aligned locations.
- the tobacco portion comprises loose tobacco, it is made into a strand shape with a press chamber as in conventional MYO devices.
- the tobacco is a pre-portioned amount of tobacco present as tobacco rod 104 and surrounded by a non-smokable casing 102.
- the filter sleeve 112 is now pushed to the left on the holder 72, wherein the conically arranged fingers or facets 76 penetrate the front of the sleeve 112.
- the sleeve 112 is then supported in the mounted state and from the outside by the holder 72 - her slipping to the right is thus prevented.
- invisible retaining mechanisms for the sleeve are used or used, such as terminals or rings.
- a ring may be used, which corresponds to the eccentric shape and movement of a Wankelmotors to pinch the cigarette paper. Possibilities for this will be discussed later with reference to the FIGS. 23 to 29 explained in more detail.
- FIG. 19 It can now be seen how the wrapped tobacco portion 100 is inserted from the left through the funnel component 74, and as in the Figures 20 and 21 can be seen, pushed by the punch 80 into the filter sleeve 112 penetrates, wherein the tobacco portion is still surrounded by its shell 102. Thereafter, once the annular groove 82 is at the same height as the clamp 78, the clamp 78 is closed (FIG. FIG. 21 ) and thus pinches the non-smokable shell 102 of the tobacco rod 104. When this is done, a second punch 84 may extend out of the punch 80 at the front ( FIG.
- the method described above could be referred to as an indirect transfer method, since the tobacco is introduced with the envelope in the filter sleeve and the latter is then removed. But there are also direct transfer methods for the present invention into consideration. In this case, the tobacco is transferred directly into the filter sleeve or stuffed, without the sheath (completely) was introduced into the filter sleeve. These are described below.
- FIGS. 23 to 29 describe various possible embodiments for the transfer of tobacco into a filter sleeve as they can basically all be used in the present invention.
- the filter sleeve 110 has the filter 114 and the sleeve 112 made of cigarette paper.
- the tobacco portion 100 has the tobacco rod 104 and the tobacco rod wrapper 102nd
- the filter sleeve 110 is held to the left of a stop 86, and this figure also shows a simple embodiment in which the tobacco portion 104, wrapped by the shell 102, is first inserted without aids in the front end of the sleeve 112 (upper illustration ). If this is done in part, the front part of the sheath 102 is held with clamps 88 against a hopper 90, then flows through a pushing medium, which pushes the tobacco rod 104 to the left in the sleeve 112, while the sheath 102 at its Space remains. Then the finished cigarette can be removed to the left be, as the arrow in the lower illustration shows the stop 86, which is taken in this movement.
- FIG. 24 Another embodiment is in FIG. 24 shown.
- a funnel 92 is shown as an insertion aid for introducing the tobacco rod 104 into the sleeve 112, which is attached to the front end of the sleeve 112 and held by a clamp 88.
- the enlargement between the two illustrations shows details of the funnel 92.
- a relatively rigid sheath 106 is provided, into which a punch 94 can penetrate from the right, to pass the tobacco rod 104 through the funnel 92 into the sleeve 112 to push, with the clamp 88 prevents slipping of the sleeve 112 from the straight funnel part.
- a non-rigid shell 102 is also held on its right front side again from the outside by a clamp 96, but the back pressure is generated from the inside of a support sleeve 98 which penetrates together with the punch 94 over a short distance in the front end of the shell 102 ,
- the plunger 94 can push the tobacco rod 104 out without the sheath 102 deforming.
- the wrap 102 which may be a soft wrap (eg, a paper wrapper), is held at its face end to maintain its shape and allow the tobacco rod 104 to be easily removed therefrom out into the sleeve 112.
- the holding mechanism 97 used here uses terminals 88 which act from the outside and U-shaped, compressible clamping members 99 which engage around the open end side of the sleeve 112 from the inside and outside.
- FIG. 27 shown possibility to provide a retention mechanism for the sleeve 112 and the shell 102, has already been briefly mentioned above.
- a ring 122 made of a suitable material is attached to the front end side of the sleeve 112, for example glued.
- a ring 126 is attached to the front end face of the shell 102.
- retaining elements 120 and 124 are now provided for these two rings, which on the one hand prevent them from deforming the casing 102 when the tobacco rod 104 is pushed out and, on the other hand, because the sleeve 112 deforms when the tobacco rod 104 is pushed in.
- Figures 28 and 29 can the glued rings together with the underlying cigarette part eg with an in FIG. 30 cutting unit 130 shown in principle are cut off, so that a clean cigarette end is formed. It should also be noted that with the cutting unit 130 in principle, the length of the cigarette can be adjusted according to the wishes of the user. For this purpose, the cutting edge or knife 134 would be displaceable, possibly together with the entire unit 130.
- FIG. 28 is a similar case as in the FIG. 27 before, only that the front retaining element 130 is displaceable on the tobacco rod in the longitudinal direction of the cigarette tube.
- the ring 132 can first be accommodated in the retaining element 130 (top illustration), and then, as shown in the middle illustration, to insert the tobacco rod 104 together with the sleeve 102 through the punch 94 into the sleeve 112, whereby the holder 130, 132 is moved with.
- the sheath 102 can be withdrawn by means of the retaining member 130 back to the right, the ring 132 serves as a retaining element for the sheath 102. If the sheath 102 is peeled off, it can be discarded.
- This embodiment corresponds in essential parts to those described with reference to FIGS FIGS. 18 to 22 was explained.
- FIG. 29 shows clearly that the different possibilities shown can also be easily combined.
- the embodiment according to FIG. 29 shows, for example, the insertion aid 92 with clamping mechanism 28 at the sleeve front end FIG. 24 and a retainer at the front end of the shell 102 of the tobacco rod 104, as described with reference to FIGS FIG. 27 has been described. Accordingly, in this combined manner, the embodiment of the FIG. 29 ,
- FIG. 31 Another element which can be optionally used in conjunction with the apparatus of the present invention is a final forming unit capable of giving the finished cigarette a final shape.
- Endformica shown has been given the reference numeral 140 and consists of a lower part 144 with a curved molding surface 145 and an upper part 142 with a likewise curved molding surface 143. Both mold surfaces 145 and 143 are concave, and when the upper part 142 is pressed onto the lower part 144, give the finished cigarette 105 a slightly oval shape.
- Alternative shapes are possible, for example deformation to an approximately triangular or square shape.
- Another, optionally usable or preferably usable unit would be a laser unit. Such a laser unit would allow manipulation of the finished cigarette in at least two different ways.
- the first type a technological manipulation, is the introduction of additional ventilation holes in the filter. This might be necessary for some combinations of filter sleeves and tobaccos, for example to improve the properties and / or to keep the final product within the legal limits for the delivered substance quantities (nicotine, condensate and CO).
- a second manipulation is to personalize the product by, for example, applying artifacts, characters, text or other symbols to the filter sleeve.
- This can be achieved by coloring the filter sleeves local, high energy densities of the laser and the resulting slight carbonization of the paper happen, or by a color conversion of applied substances.
- the laser unit receives an interface to the control unit as well as manipulation elements which move the cigarette and / or the laser unit along and around the cigarette axis.
- the cigarette is in a rotary motion while the laser unit moves axially.
- a needle unit can be provided by means of one or more Needles, especially fast reciprocating needles, perforated the cigarette tube, in particular the Filverteil, for the production of ventilation holes and / or applies markings on the cigarette.
- the device is controlled by the control unit 6 so that all necessary activities of the individual elements are executed, preferably software-controlled or processor-controlled.
- the software or processor control can be provided in or with the selection system 7, which also receives the inputs of the user and provides visual feedback.
- all of these elements can be provided individually, but it would be useful to arrange them in the device or on a side of the housing and summarize, for example, with a touch screen selection system turned to the user and a rear-mounted processor or software controlled control unit.
- a Tabaküber arrangementsvortechnisch with Matter Operations- or transport unit for a tobacco rod is in an oblique view and in a sectional view in the Figures 32 and 33 to see.
- the tobacco transfer device 150 is shown in the present case as part of a cigarette manufacturing device, and it has a carriage 151 which can be motor driven on rail bars 152. At the lower part of the carriage 151, a plunger 154 is attached, which - if it is moved with the carriage 151 to the left - is able to push out a tobacco rod, not shown here, out of its casing casing.
- the tobacco rod is, surrounded by a strand casing, in the tobacco portion intake 153.
- a tobacco serving is usually referred to here as such a wrapped with a strand casing tobacco rod, which is a cigarette precursor.
- the strand casing serves only to keep the tobacco rod stable for transport and processing until it has been transferred into a cigarette tube.
- the plunger 154 pushes the tobacco rod out of its casing, into a cigarette tube which is seated in a separate holder which fits into the cigarette holder Figures 32 and 33 not completely recognizable.
- the wrapping divider which is designed here as a double-edge or double-edged knife 155 with the cutting edges 156 and 157 and is located in the direction of movement of the punch 154 behind this.
- the cutting edges 156 and 157 still protrude somewhat beyond the circumference of the punch 154.
- the tobacco transfer device can be configured overall very space-saving, especially because the stamp is not pushed from the very back by an intact or intact strand casing, as for example in embodiments of the FIGS. 24 to 29 the case is.
- a wrapped tobacco rod which can be used as a tobacco precursor for incorporation into a cigarette tube is in the FIG. 34 shown.
- a wrapped tobacco rod may also be referred to as a tobacco portion, and it comprises a cylindrical strand of tobacco, which has substantially the length of the tobacco-filled portion of a cigarette.
- the tobacco rod 161 is surrounded by a stabilizing sheath, which bears the reference numeral 162.
- This stabilizing sheath 162 may be a sheath of very thin paper, as for example in the embodiments of the FIGS. 24 to 29 is used.
- the paper is designed in such a way that the tobacco rod can be pushed out lengthwise without sticking too much to its inside.
- an end support 164 is provided, which is externally mounted around the end portion at the exit end of the tobacco portion 160 and for example can consist of a closed (or interrupted) paper ring or filter cover paper ring.
- this end support 164 thus supports the material of the stabilization cover 162 against deformation by longitudinal forces, so that the exit region remains dimensionally stable and the tobacco strand can be easily pushed out of the stabilization cover 162 up to its end. This is due to a simple measure, such as the sticking of such a paper ring a functional safety when transferring the tobacco from the tobacco portion given out without complicated holding or support mechanisms and components must be provided in a self-production device.
- the device shown is part of a cigarette self-production device, but can certainly be regarded as an independent unit.
- the end trimming unit 170 has a carriage 171, which can be motor-driven on guide rods 172, wherein the drive via a spindle 173 takes place.
- the carriage includes the cigarette pad 174 which is in the FIG. 35 is shown in a sectional view and the body of the cigarette stored, with the filter or mouth end on the left in FIG. 35 to come to rest.
- the right end of the cigarette not shown here is also referred to as ignition end, and it is this ignition end, which must be cut off again before the release of the cigarette to the user to create a good visual impression and also to produce a smooth end surface from which the tobacco does not fall out.
- ignition end which must be cut off again before the release of the cigarette to the user to create a good visual impression and also to produce a smooth end surface from which the tobacco does not fall out.
- ignition end the right end of the cigarette not shown here
- the length of the cigarette to a desired level.
- the firing end must be held firmly, and in the present embodiment, this is advantageously done on both sides of the blade, which is designed as a triangular blade and in the FIG. 35 has received the reference numeral 175.
- the end holder 176 has two for this purpose by a knife-through slot separate holder elements 177 and 178, and he is in the view of FIG. 35 also not completely shown, since two corresponding holders mirror-inverted from the other side at the ignition end and this then embrace substantially full extent.
- a great advantage of this embodiment is also that it reduces the movement of a cigarette, e.g. from the tobacco transfer station to the delivery station anyway, exploits to take an important step, namely the end pruning. This eliminates, for example, moving blades and their servomotors.
- the tobacco rod after being transferred into the cigarette tube, undergoes a phase of spatial expansion which compensates for the compression during tobacco transport into the sleeve. This spatial expansion takes place in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the cigarette, so that a piece of the tobacco rod emerges from the open cigarette end or the ignition end.
- the embodiment described here advantageously also takes into account the fact that the tobacco spread extends over a period of time, which may be dependent on several factors, such as: As the tobacco used, the applied pressure when tobacco rod transport into the sleeve, etc .. If, however, as suggested here, in a controlled and adjusted manner a certain waiting period elapse before after the tobacco transfer of the end cut takes place, so can it is still possible to prevent tobacco from spreading after the end cut from the open end of the cigarette. Thus, the condition is maintained immediately after the end cut and the cigarette still has a clean ignition after the issue.
- a further method step can be carried out, for example the marking step or the production of the ventilation.
- cartridges are used for the cigarette self-production device according to the invention, which on the one hand can accommodate tobacco portions (coated tobacco strands) and on the other hand cigarette tubes, and are available to the user depending on their selection and ready for processing.
- FIGS. 36 to 38 Embodiments are shown, which can serve as an example of an advantageous design of the cartridge interior, wherein spatial structuring elements are used which control and / or control the position and / or movement of the tobacco or cigarette tubes (cigarette precursors) in the cartridge
- the FIGS. 36 to 38 show in each case two views, namely an end view and an oblique view of the cartridges.
- FIG. 36 illustrated cartridge 180 has an outer cylindrical member or an outer shell 181a, in which a space divider 181b is housed as an inner cylinder member having alternately longitudinal bays 185 for two superimposed cigarette precursors 183 and longitudinal bays 186 for a cigarette precursor.
- the space divider 181b is rotatably inserted into the outer shell 181a, so that the open ends of the bays 185 and 186 can come to lie successively above the dispensing slot 184 so as to release, for example, by gravity the cigarette precursor 183, ie the precursor 183 can through the Slot 184 fall out to be further processed.
- This in the FIG. 36 illustrated interior structure with the elaborately designed room divider 181b ensures in a very reliable way that the cigarette precursors can not tilt either in the interior, or hinder each other when deployed through the slot.
- the last-mentioned goal above can also by an embodiment according to the FIG. 37
- an inner cylindrical member 191b having a slit and having its ends 196 adjacent to the slit provided with inwardly directed protrusions.
- the inward bulges or bumps 196 keep inward or sideways precursors 193 somewhat spaced apart from those directly on the dispensing slot 194 such that the latter is unobstructed by the slot 194 can fall out when the inner cylinder member is rotated so that its slot opening coincides with the slot 194 of the outer cylinder member 191 a.
- the cartridge 200 in turn comprises the outer cylinder member 201a with the dispensing slot 204, and an inner cylinder member 201b, which has a spiral-shaped interior, in which the precursors 203 are arranged one behind the other.
- the spiral-shaped, inner cylinder member 201 b is rotatably supported in the element part 201 a, and when the two outer openings of the elements over each other come to rest, as in Figure 38 As shown, the first cigarette precursor may fall out of the cartridge 200 and be further processed.
- the design of the spirally divided interior ensures that neither tilting of the cigarette precursors may occur, nor a mutual obstruction arises when spending.

Description
The present invention relates to the self-production of user-specific designed smoking articles, in particular cigarettes.
Make Your Own (MYO)" genannt. One well-known way in which cigarettes can be made by a consumer himself is by rolling the cigarettes by hand with the help of a cigarette paper and a stock of fine cut tobacco. This type of production is known as "Roll Your Own (RYO)". Also widely used is the stuffing of fine cut tobacco in pre-made cigarette tubes, also called "Make Your Own (MYO)". In taste and appearance, such home-made cigarettes often are cheap, and they are perceived as a product of lesser quality. This is mainly due to the fact that the consumer does not have the necessary craftsmanship to consistently produce high quality cigarettes - but sometimes the tobaccos and filter tubes themselves are of low quality.
The last-mentioned more elaborate devices make it possible to produce higher-quality smoking articles or cigarettes from the visual and haptic impression. With given tobaccos, it will only be possible for the consumer with such devices to produce cigarettes whose properties he can hardly influence. In other words, the consumer either likes or dislikes the cigarette from such a device, the possibilities of influencing this result being extremely limited.

The present invention addresses this problem and attempts to overcome the previously described disadvantages of the prior art. In particular, a smoking article self-production device is to be shown, which allows the user to produce cigarettes of high quality even in a consistent manner and according to his wishes.
This object is achieved by a smoking article self-production device according to
If, according to the present invention, at least two different types of tobacco are made available for at least one type of husk or at least two different types of husk for at least one type of tobacco, which can then also be combined by a selection system, the user has the option of Generating different cigarettes available. In other words, the user can choose with the device according to the invention how his cigarettes should be or taste, where he has the choice of several options. This can be done with the aid of the present invention, without having to change the tobacco supply on a device during the manufacturing process, and without having to change operating parameters such as the stuffing density, which can have a negative effect on cigarette quality and either too strong cigarettes or too loosely packed Produces tobacco strands. Such anyway problematic measures are to change the property of the manufactured smoking article according to the invention therefore no longer necessary, but can be high quality cigarettes consistently create because operating parameters such as stuffing density to change the taste, strength or draw resistance no longer adversely affected Need to become. Namely, the user can now make the right taste via the appropriate selection for the tobacco and / or the filter sleeve and thus reproducibly combine different constituents of the cigarettes in order to obtain a product according to his personal taste or his present preference. The invention thus makes it possible to "personalize" the smoking article or the cigarettes. The cigarette is defined by the properties of the final product, that is, based on the desired result and / or smoking experience. Accordingly, the cigarette can advantageously be defined in advance in terms of its smoke properties (eg flavor, strength, etc.). The user can by his inputs to the selection system thus in particular such smoke properties, ie properties of the cigarette when smoking (by the user) to select in advance, and the device of the invention will then produce a corresponding cigarette. Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be shown in list form. The non-exhaustive list reproduces in its permutations possible embodiments of the invention, which in each case require no further features in addition to the expressly listed features.

In order for the user to make a choice, at least one

The cartridges for the filter sleeves and the tobacco may be different in construction, but they are preferably of largely identical construction - possibly only mirror-inverted designed to be used in different sides of the device can. It is also conceivable to make the construction of the cartridges identical even for a two-sided, mirror-inverted device, in which case the transport mechanism or the movement or actuating mechanism would have to be correspondingly changed in order to compensate for the reversed arrangement. Of course, the docking station can also be adapted accordingly to ensure the usability of identical cartridges at each location of the device, e.g. by a symmetrical arrangement of the webs 16 and grooves 22nd
In general, the cartridges may have many and different outer shapes and dimensions.
If the cartridges have identical sizes, it is necessary to calculate the additional volume of the filters compared to the tobacco volume taking. Therefore, to ensure the safe storage of the tobacco and to limit its degradation, it is a preferred option to reduce the internal volume of the tobacco cartridge, for example by a wall or stopper that leaves a volume empty, which filters the filters equivalent.
Different amounts of tobacco or filter sleeves may be present in the cartridges, preferably suitable for producing from 5 to 40 cigarettes, in particular embodiment from 10 to 30 cigarettes.
The pre-portioned tobacco preferably has the shape of a cylindrical tobacco rod, which approximately corresponds to the diameter of the empty volume of a filter sleeve. The length of the pre-portioned tobacco rod in preferred embodiments is 5-15% longer than this empty volume, taking into account that when transferring the tobacco, the density of the rod is increased and its length is reduced.
- Substanzen, die auf die Oberfläche des Tabakstrangs aufgesprüht werden, um ihn in Form zu halten;
- Substances that are sprayed onto the surface of the tobacco rod to hold it in shape;
- smokable casings that are attached to the strand; and or
- non-smokable casings that are attached to the string and must be removed before, during or after the tobacco portion is transferred into the filter sleeves.
The filter sleeves may be conventional filter sleeves or at least be constructed on such. Such filter sleeves include a wrapped in a wrapping paper filter, a cigarette paper for receiving the tobacco and a tipping paper that attaches the filter to the cigarette paper. Filter sleeves which can be used with the invention can have all known and conceivable dimensions for desired cigarettes, such as kingsize, slim, superslim, etc. All known filter technologies can be used, for example tow filters, activated carbon filters, silicate filters, etc. , and the filter may have flavor in a variety of forms, such as geflavourte Tows or threads, capsules, granules, etc. The filter may be ventilated.
The cigarette paper is preferably technologically implemented so that its inflammability is kept low according to legal requirements.

With the
The following process steps are carried out in a preferred embodiment, wherein tobacco portion and filter sleeves are exchangeable in the description: First, the

The tobacco transfer into the filter sleeve is made after picking up these two elements by the

The method described above could be referred to as an indirect transfer method, since the tobacco is introduced with the envelope in the filter sleeve and the latter is then removed. But there are also direct transfer methods for the present invention into consideration. In this case, the tobacco is transferred directly into the filter sleeve or stuffed, without the sheath (completely) was introduced into the filter sleeve. These are described below.

Another, optionally usable or preferably usable unit would be a laser unit. Such a laser unit would allow manipulation of the finished cigarette in at least two different ways.
The first type, a technological manipulation, is the introduction of additional ventilation holes in the filter. This might be necessary for some combinations of filter sleeves and tobaccos, for example to improve the properties and / or to keep the final product within the legal limits for the delivered substance quantities (nicotine, condensate and CO).
A second manipulation is to personalize the product by, for example, applying artifacts, characters, text or other symbols to the filter sleeve. This can be achieved by coloring the filter sleeves local, high energy densities of the laser and the resulting slight carbonization of the paper happen, or by a color conversion of applied substances. Alternatively, it would be possible to erode the surface of the filter sleeve somewhat or to perform an ablation in order to achieve a visible effect. To achieve this, the laser unit receives an interface to the control unit as well as manipulation elements which move the cigarette and / or the laser unit along and around the cigarette axis. Preferably, the cigarette is in a rotary motion while the laser unit moves axially.
To replace either the above-mentioned ventilation hole production function of the laser unit or the above-mentioned identification function or both functions - or in addition to the laser unit to replace one of the functions, in particular the ventilation hole production function, a needle unit can be provided by means of one or more Needles, especially fast reciprocating needles, perforated the cigarette tube, in particular the Filverteil, for the production of ventilation holes and / or applies markings on the cigarette.
In the following, a method sequence in the production of a cigarette, ie the self-production according to the present invention will be described. For this purpose, the device is controlled by the

A great advantage of this embodiment is also that it reduces the movement of a cigarette, e.g. from the tobacco transfer station to the delivery station anyway, exploits to take an important step, namely the end pruning. This eliminates, for example, moving blades and their servomotors.
In addition, it may be of great advantage to control or adjust the time elapsed between the transfer of the tobacco into the cigarette tube and the end-cutting process step. It is a fact that the tobacco rod, after being transferred into the cigarette tube, undergoes a phase of spatial expansion which compensates for the compression during tobacco transport into the sleeve. This spatial expansion takes place in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the cigarette, so that a piece of the tobacco rod emerges from the open cigarette end or the ignition end. Of course, this will eventually be corrected by pruning the cigarette end, but the embodiment described here advantageously also takes into account the fact that the tobacco spread extends over a period of time, which may be dependent on several factors, such as: As the tobacco used, the applied pressure when tobacco rod transport into the sleeve, etc .. Advantageously, during the waiting period, a further method step can be carried out, for example the marking step or the production of the ventilation.
